  1. When I have the oil done at the dealer I ask for the other 0.5l (from the 5l) in the container for top ups between services - it also focuses their minds on not overfilling the engine - worth checking on the forecourt before driving off.
  2. for the pd engines - all mk2 tdis afaik Ford Formula SD Millers XFE PD Quantum PD there are many with the correct viscosity but must meet vw505.01 spec - this can be a problem for some dealers since they think it comes in the big drum out of the back or in the correct viscosity containers they have a lot of - Some here are religious about this - sometghing to do with the very high pressures in the pd engine
  3. yes its on my list of things to do ................................... done
  4. To be honest I don't know. I specifically asked for oil for a 2002 Galaxy Tdi 115 so I suppose it should be.
  5. given the exacting spec required I don't think I would be using it until I found out - usually use formula SD others choose millers XPE (IIRC) and VW use a Quantum oil .... sure LD will tell us which one
  6. does the trip stay turn on ?
  7. spare underwear needed as you turn on
  8. as grumpy says - unplug everything and try turning on the trip - ifit blows again then its the wiring - turn the trip off - add apliance turn on until it wont - last one added is the problem
  9. Leave them off and they are safe enough - how long will it take for maintenance to turn up ?
  10. Have to agree - thanks Gregers ;)
  11. IIRC it is an option on MK1 but I seem to remember a thread which decided it couldn't on mk2
  12. well actually avatars post here    ps like the avatar though :(
  13. ah I see - senior moment there, I would assume that in testing this you would need to sit in the car and open/close door after each trial so as to disturb the wiring otherwise you could have a situation where a correct circuit is made and never find the faullt - similar tor my drivers door where sometimes the speakers work and sometimes not. (works when boot is moved - must sort this out. Does the global closing/opening have seprate wures to each window motor? I have an odd situation where I can can either use the door switchs to open the rear passenger window or use global opening in either front door locks, but whilst global closing works fine on all the other does and windows it will not shut the rear passenger windo, whereas the switches on the drivers door (and the rear passenger door) both do.
  14. surely the wiring from the switch goes through the door boot to the cl module on the bulkhead and then back to the doors through the rubber boots?????????
  15. no problem
  16. wonder if you have a breakdown i the wiring loom in the door-pillar rubber boot which sometoimes lets the signals though from the cl module - probably worth a check, do you know anyone else with a mk 2 gal - program your key to open and see how consistent it is (need their key) dealers can check the signal from your remote have a look in the faq about wiring and programming remotes
  17. Hi Greg there is no need to post the same post on more than one forum here - the same peeps read each generally so one post will do usually thank you
  18. I have to say I got as far as posting something about the teeth but couldn't tie all the symptoms together - just wonder now if something came off the bendix - which jammed the flywheel (either temporarily or permanently) now when you try and start it either the bendix is not engaging or it has no teeth on it (I could imagine that a section of the flywheel has lost some teeth(and so the bendix just spins) but can't see how this stopped the car - possibly bits of teeth jamming the flywheel. I wondered about the cam belt reason but don't see why it would make an appreciable difference to the noise, it certainly didn't on a non-interference engine, would a couple of bent valves alter the compression enough to change the noise as it turns over ???
  19. are you sure you have enough juice in the battery - clicking with no movement is a common symptom of a flat battery
  20. I believe that the new regulations are to combat spammers and prevent spam bots flooding the site which appears to have attracted their notice in the recent months :)
  21. its already a total blind spot as you say so you can't make it any worse ;)
  22. its perfect to mount the pda (running tomtom) - hardly need to move your eyes from the road - does not obsure any view and holder is not obvious when pda removed and shaded from strong light by the pillars - not for me the extrovert poofy middle of the screen - halfords option ;) :)
  23. I think the paintbrush is catching !!!! :)
  24. if my experience of knacked cam-belts is anything to go by (3) it can still be intact but lose half a dozen or so teeth so it still looks whole but the pullrys don't stay in sync
