Rear Passenger Side Light
lydanial replied to shamish's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
i too find it hard to find any scrappy parts for these cars... keep an eye on flea-bay and if you can handle it for a while just cover with some sort of clear plastic for the time being (obviously using a red bit for brake lights). you could try these mass searches. www.1stchoice.co.uk www..find-a-part.com www.247spares.co.uk www.breakerlink.com -
Odd Behavior Of Engine Temp Needle?
lydanial replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
i go with your dad too.. not literally though  -
That simply isnt true, all the manufacturer / insurance investigator has to do is to read the ECU program memory and generate a CRC checksum, which if it doesnt tally with factory settings means..... ok my mistake it IS detectable, what i meant was its not date detectable.. ie no-one will know when it was done.. the newer audis have something built in to the ecu that will 'date stamp' any tampering meaning that if you have it done and they find out its done then it can be proved that you did it. so if you have a second hand car then no-one can prove when it was done, this is where i was meaning to go. on another note, do you guys have galaxy meets then?? if so when and do you take ALL the reasons with you that made you purchase it in the first place?

i dont think cornering is an issue because at the end of the day you can only go round a corner as fast as the car will let you. it just means breaking a little harder coming in but it gives you a lot more pull coming out. i dont think the top speed will be altered, it just means you should be able to get to it quicker. my impreza was about 220 when i bought it, with various mods and a remap it was just shy of 300 when i sold it yet the corners that i took at 90mph before the remap i could still only take at 90 mph after it.. but it was more fun leaving the corner  also i have noticed that with the extra power i am not using it ALL the time, just mainly for overrtaking and p*****g of my brother in his brand new zafira from the lights.. if you buy a ferrari do you drive it on the limit ALL the time or just open it up now and again?? i have already spoken to them about a block booking and the guy said it would be done... how much discount probably depends on how many people turn up and want it done.

well i am only going on what ive been told/read everywhere.. if thats the case then... IT WAS LIKE THAT WHEN I BOUGHT IT!... HONEST!

OK as some of you might know i was getting my ECU remapped yesterday!!. anyway here is the outcome.. firstly although they say an extra 50bhp is achievable the man who did it has conservatively estimated an increase of 35-40bhp but he said it could be a little higher, this means that i am now running at least 150bhp with this being possibly up to 165bhp!! firstly overall impressions are fantastic!! where i live ( a small village) there is a hill leading out now before my galaxy would pull up quite easily in 4th and then slowly carry on pulling in 5th.. this has now changed.. it actually shoot up the hill in ALL gears... i guess due to the extra torque aswell!! overtaking in 6th gear from 60 mph is better too with the car simply pulling away very effectively.. not having to change down to 5th or 4th is just a bonus!! as for MPG, i took it on a long run yesterday and noticed a slight increase 4-5 mpg over a long journey however when i use the power now it does seem to drop a little more than before maybe by 1 or 2mpg. i havent got any urban figures (as i ive out of town) but no doubt in time i will have to visit the city and so will reset the computer to get some readings. heres the best bit.. before the ecu the chap took it for a run (with me as i wanted no cheating) and used some hardware to record 0-60 and 0-80 times, we did six runs over the same stretch of road, heres the results. first tests (before remap) 0-60 slowest 0-60 fastest 0-60 average 0-80 slowest 0-80 fastest 0-80 average 14.91-----------13.25-------14.02---------26.52---------23.56----------25.22 second tests (after remap) 0-60 slowest 0-60 fastest 0-60 average 0-80 slowest 0-80 fastest 0-80 average 11.10-----------9.85---------10.53--------20.22----------18.15----------19.13 a significant improvement i think you will agree..and a sub 10 second 0-60 in a galaxy diesel... excellent!!! just some pointers.. 2 runs on the second tests were completely left out, this was due to the fact that we left half my front tyres on the road and couldnt seem to get the power down to start with. also yesterday was an extremely hot day... really hot!! during the first set of tests the air temperature was 22 degrees, during the second set it was 28 degrees (according to galaxy temp thing).. now for those that dont know, hot air = slower car!! the guy mentioned that during a cool (perhaps even foggy evening) i may well be able to get another 0.5-1 second off those times!!! this would be due to moisture on the intercooler combined with the colder air making the air entering the engine even cooler.. i will admit there is some truth behind this.. i used to drive an impreza turbo and on days like yesterday (24+ degrees) i noticed it was a hell of a lot slower than on nice cool evenings, this is what prompted me to have an intercooler spray added and that made a lot of difference! i also spoke to him about getting a massive deal for all those intersted on these boards and he said it wouldnt be a problem and that the best bet would be to arrange a meet somewhere and then find out how many want it done.. apparently there is a fiat mulupa meeting twice a year and he does these cars, 70+ cars were there last time and about 15 had remaps.. if we can arrange this sort of turn out and ammount wanting doing then im sure a good deal will be had by all!! anyway, i will update this thread in the future with more conclusive mpg results for urban and overall.

Climate Control Not Cooling
lydanial replied to Alhambra's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
isnt that the same with all the air con on these cars.. none of them work!!! i find that on auto it blows a lot slower than normal so i tend to set it on low and get the cabin cool then adjust to a temperature setting on auto, this seems to work better than any other way i have found. if anyone has any other ways they use theres please add there opinions. -

Stereo Opening Tool
lydanial replied to sanjsanj's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
iirc most of the sonys have a plastic surrounding edge that can be removed and the you stick them in the sides.. they work by then pushing them in, you will feel some resistence and then you should be able to remove it quite easily. this is due to the little 'hook' bits on the removal tool. either that or im pretty damn wrong ;) -
ok, bhp is irrelevant now!!! gonna get a remap on friday so it should be significantly higherbut i wont have an exact figure until i get it on a rolling road.. i am told they can make it 50 bhp more

lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
i would but i dont have one.. i think that someone ate it on a long journey when the driver woulnt pull over at a little robber cafe... mind you it probably tasted slighty better and moister than anything served from this restarant.. anyway i just purchased one off ebay tonight saw it on these boards somewhere!! so i will be able to read little things soon!! -

Beeping Noise When Opening The Door.
lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
actually completely right... yes i had left my indicators on as i had just pulled to side of the road to use the shop.. just been out and tested it and yep correct again it makes a beep. thanks again keen folks!! -
ok next chapter in my new ownership of a galaxy.. today after having my aircon done.. the guys said its free from leaks and all working fine and that it had about 600 in and it should be 7-750.. so its lost 150 in 2.5 years so 20% over 2 years which must be pretty good as ive read that most systems lose about 15% a year).. anyway enough about that.. i pulled up at a shop and turned off the engine, when i opened the door i got the deep beeping noise to tell me my lights are on..i close the door & check the lights and there off.. open the door and the same noise is there.. twiidle the switch on and off a few times but it was still there... left car came back 5 minutes later.. still doing it.. go to a cafe open door still there, 10 minutes later i leave the cafe and its stopped doing it and hasnt dont it again since. are there any other reasons to make this noise apart from the lights bering left on?? thanks again!!
