the other day i had the oil light come on telling me the oil was low so i topped up ASAP. since then i was getting a light knocking noise from the engine, this has got progressively louder until tonight when it was pretty damn loud. i got out the car and got my wife to gently rev it and i could hardly hear the noise but when sat in the drivers seat its there, and gets faster or slower according to engine revs. when i topped p the oil i did slightly overfil it but being at a garage had no way to drain anything off. so an suggestions would be useful. it started off sounding like tappets but has got a lot louder. edit, i am not sure if its doing it at speed as you cant hear it but its doing it at lower speeds through the gears, and if the car is stationary its doing it and when you rev it.

Electric Window Problem
lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
thanks for looking for me, i think i am going to try and get a complete unit with motor and everything, that way i can just drop the window slightly undo clips lift glass and then rip the lot out before just putting the new setup in. -
Electric Window Problem

ok my mate has been, we took the connector off the motor and tried the current, found 12v on up and down, so power getting to the unit.. faulty unit it is. unfortunately the motor is a worm drive and so that stops the window being pushed up. well we managed to manipulate the motor and remove the bolts off it and as soon as that was done we were able to lift the glass and put it in place. anyway going to put something in it to wedge it up and then get a whole new unit in the new year.. at least it wont be drafty on the drive tomorrow. -

at the moment i think (hope) its not that, surely if the motor had gone then it would still make a 'click' noise when i pushed the switch up as well as down... however ive got a friend coming over soon with a multimeter and we are going to try and bodge/mess around until we either locate it or at least manage to get it closed until after christmas. what would be really useful would be if anyone actually knew what colour wires are for what in the door? anyway we shall see... ive got too many miles to do tomorrow in the cold with an open window. -

Electric Window Problem
lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
cant see any visible damage to any of the door wires, the switch will make a click when i push it down so the unit is trying to open the window but obviously cant any further so that would make me believe that its not switch related or it would be stuck in 'closed mode all the time and so wouldnt make any noise when moved? just wondering now if there is a way of bypassing everythin and closing the wndow. -
Electric Window Problem

i located where them 2 wires go.. and what they are for... the front speaker!!! so back to square one, anyway if i click the switch down then it is working and trying to go down but when i click up, nothing. i guess its not the switch as it wont work on the key either, all the wires look good (apart from the 2 thaat were pulled out) and i guess i did that struggling to get the connector off as i am pretty sure the speaker was working before i attempted this. all i want to do for now is get it up, also if i can at least it might keep me away from macdonalds drive thru's -

Electric Window Problem
lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
it seems there may be a wire that has pulled out of the connector, a red and brown one, the only thing is this one was folded back as if it shouldnt of been plugged in? other than that i cannot see any problem wires so am really annoyed now. can anyone tell me what the brown and red wire is for? also where i need to put it back into? stupid cars! -
hi again all. ok the problem is like this, i took my wife to work and put the window down about 3/4 to give her a kiss and say bye. anyway i pushed the switch for a complete close and it went up about 3 inches and came down again(done it before so not worried) pushed it up again and it wouldnt budge so in my frustration tried down and it went all the way down....then stayed there!! anyway tried the key in the door and all the others work except this one.... 30 mile drive home at -1degree with my window wide open and booster heater not working.. at least it was open road and i could get temp gauge up. anyway going to go take the door card off now... should i be looking at a wiring problem or does this sound different by the way it went up then down then gave up?

Booster Heater.. No Dont Shoot Me
lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
but is that only when cold or when hot and cold? i remember hearing it a while ago but dont remember hearing it through summer, my heater stopped working last year so i know it wasnt due to this. maybe i am looking at a bigger repair then -
ok i know this may be a strange question but is it possible to reset faults on the ecu just by disconnecting it?? i have read that if you disconnect it for 30 seconds (up to an hour)it will lose the fault codes? also seen that you can disconnect the battery over night with the same results. if this is the case would it remove the fault code for a flame out or similar, sill it reset the service due light. (just serviced it and had booked stamped but my mechanic didnt have his vag as its been taken to ireland with one of his partners on a business trip.

i cant find anything around the linkage except a small black connecter under the plastic under the wiper about dead centre to the battery. this has 4 wires going into it but cant see any further from there. next point i believe i should be able to hear a 'whirring' noise for several seconds after turning off the engine? i am not getting this! should it only do this noise if its cold enough or all the time?? thanks. 2001 mk2 if it makes a difference. -
This isnt your usual 'whats that thing under the car etc etc... just letting peeps know ive changed the glowplug on my car... heres the good news, i did it in about an hour laid on my back so its not all that dificult for all you chaps that wont want to try. anyway.. 2 quick questions. 1 how and where do i bridge it to make it think its cold 2 anyone near me with vag com who can give me a quick reset on a few bits.. im between lincoln and scunthorpe. anyway i will either have to wait till its cold or try again. it just worrys me that i have done all this and its going to be something else as things very rarely go right for me with mechanicals... although i changed the plug in about an hour...

i always thought turbos were supposed to make a whine noise but that seems not to be the case, from what my mechanic told me if its whining then there may be a problem coming. i wouldnt worry about the lag too much get used to it. youve got a recon turbo and iirc on 2001 onwards models its the same turbo that fits a multitude of cars, so it may not be exactly set up for your car and will probably not be able to be either. i think my turbo used to cut in at about 1400, but since having a new turbo fitted it seems to be closer to the 2000 mark, this can be annoying when pulling out of junctions using 2nd from a slow roll but you just have to adapt.

i have been browsing ebay looking for a vag vom lead, this one caught my eye as it comes with.. ahem.. bonus software. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OBDII-2-VAG-COM-VW-S...1QQcmdZViewItem however most people recommend going for a usb cable and dont think this one is (it doesnt look like it anyway). so can someone recommend . 1, which lead. 2, where to download software 3, whether i will be able to reset the flame out codes with vag com. EDIT - just got a response to my question to him and it IS a USB lead.... so will this do the job!!!

hi all, my 01 gal is playing up again. i can start the car and it will tick over happily all day long, i can drive up the road crawling and all is fine (had to do this today leaving a friends house down a very very bumpy track). anyway when i start to wind it up a bit i get to about 30-40 mph and suddenly it flashes a message, 'STOP'.. followed by 'oil press' now obviously this is the ooil pressure but if i stop and pull over and turn of ignition restart the car it is fine and wont do it again. this has become a regular thing nearly every time i start the car from cold, the first time i was really worried and stopped, checked oil and it was a little low, topped it up and it didnt do it again for a few weeks, next time i thought hey ho i didnt have much to top up last time so i will buy some more and top it up properly but on checking the oil level it is absolutely bang on. anyway now i have got to the point where it does it every time i pull away so i just flick the ignition off and on again and all is fine until the next morning drive. any advice would be really appreciated. thanks

Smoking Like A 13 Year Old Girl At A Disco!
lydanial replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
it had a new turbo and at the same time it got a new full exhaust system (due to it being full of oil) so i cant see that it has too much soot in the exhaust. it did smoke a fair bit before the new turbo was fitted so i dont think this is the cause of the problem. what i could really do with is someone who owns a gal following me and them flooring it, then me following them and doing the same to try and judge how much is 'norm'. -
hi there, was giving the old gal some beans racing my dad ..lol.. anyway he said when he looked in his rear view at me following him it looked like my car was on fire by the ammount of smoke being kicked out the back end. i know its a diesel and should smoke when flooring it but i will admit i have been a little concerned on how much it seems to smoke. is there perhaps something i can use in the fuel to try and clean the engine and if not what direction shall i look on why it is so smokey.. it starts and runs smooth as, and still goes like a rocket (well as diesel bricks do) albeit apart from the smoke!

Poor Fuel Economy! Help
lydanial replied to nhawan's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
a friend of mine is getting 600 miles to a tank out of his 98 tdi, i am only getting about 400-450???!!!?? although i am reading 40mpg average on the number 2 setting (which i reset on every fill up). -
hi again all. i seem to have a strange rattling noise when i start the gal... this only does it when its cold (usually only in the morning cold) and then probably wont do it for the rest of the day.. it may also do it if it has not been run for a few days. anyway if i look down by the front right wheel trhere is a belt behind there that seems to be having jumping sessions when its rattling (kind of bouncing up and down and not running smoothly). does anyone know what this belt is connected to AND do you think this is whats causing the rattle .. thanks
