If it has disintegrated then i would get it flushed as there may be bits of the old compressor in the system, if you fit something new like that then you should always have new refrigerant and oil put in it,no point in spending all that money then trying to save a few bob by cutting corners, it will only cost you more in the long run ,but that's only my opinion :rolleyes:

If you are going to fit compressor yourelf i would be inclined to get the system drained and flushed just in the off chance that bits of debris that may have come away from your old unit when it seized then after fitting get the system recharged ;) Read this article i found, it may help you decide which way round you tackle it Many customers have experienced Ford Galaxy Aircon compressors not pumping correctly on the above vehicles, sometimes this has been on the original Ford Galaxy AC compressor but more often than not on replacement new or remanufactured A/C compressors that are fitted. The problem that occurs is that the air con compressor will pump the refrigerant for 20 minutes and then cease to pump anymore, giving the impression that the replacement Ford Galxy Air Con compressor is faulty. Our Suppliers have done extensive investigating into this problem, and have now found the reasons behind this occurrence. In the majority of cases that we have discovered the vehicle has had an ac condenser and a/c compressor change, this can result in the system being

that looks like a mk 1 looking at the engine codes, you will need to look at the compressor and get the serial /model numbers off the compressor

keep it on econ ,just have steamy windows a lot longer than normal but you will have heat :18:

you can have the heating on as long as you keep it Econ mode and if you shop around you will get an idependent to supply and fit new compressor for a lot cheaper than what you have been quoted :18:

There is a wire connector block that plugs into the heater itself, mine was disconnected when i purchased it so i put in a new plug and re-connected and it's been sound ever since, as for changing the plug itself it's not a big job and if you have the right tools you will be looking at a couple of hours max, worth it at this time of the year ;)

is it running at full temp, a spin round the block will not suffice !! is the aux heater kicking in ? with the current temps being as low as they are it should be, also when the temp drops below 5.5c the aircon /climate automatically switches itself off to avoid freezinfg up but that will not stop hot air coming through as it will switch to econ mode, hope this helps and it's nothing to serious <_<

Cheers for that, i have one of those marine suction pumps and have used that a few times ,i recently read a review that said although it was a decent tool it could never get rid of all the old oil and what bit was left in would shorten the effectiveness of the new oil , so a proper draining it will get ;)

Surely the only swap you would do would be front to back same side ( wouldn't expect any difference in wear between left and right ). Good point about the spare...although they are going out of fashion ! Kev, when you swap four tyres from front to back they have to go diagonally, o/s front to n/s rear and n/s front to o/s rear i have sen this in a book at a tyre fitters although some years ago, i think this is because your n/s tyres will wear more due to the camber of the road.

while driving the other day the windows started to mist up on mine , 4 adults in car and climate working, so took it of auto and placed fan on full hammer for a few mins and it cleared all the mist, with the galaxy being such a large car it will have a build up of mist at times especially if the weather is cold/wet and aircon is not working.

I worked for Royal Mail Parcels as a temp one Xmas and part of our job involved sorting sacks of parcels into international regions. It went like this: Sorters stand in the middle of big room next to piles of sacks full of parcels A semi-circle of 6-ft tall cages is arranged about 10 ft away Sorters decide which cage the parcel belongs in and throw it in - from 10ft away, over a 6ft cage wall! Stuff like china and bottles of whisky etc stood no chance, regardless of the packing. I was pretty horrified, especially as most of it was presents from people in the UK going to their overseas relatives. Since then I've always parcelled things up really carefully :P This was back in the late 1980s so maybe things have improved since then... Yes they only throw them from 6ft away now as it was a health and safety issue regarding damage to their backs ;) :o :wub:

8.5 c yesterday morning after my nightshift and my aux heater never kicked in :D now am i right in thinking that this should kick in at 10c or below, only replaced the glowplug in it last octoberish and it went sweet as a nut all last winter, is there anything i should be doing to make it kick in? i'm sure i read on here somewhere that it might need a bit of a good rev to get it to kick in,all possible ideas considered or am i going to stripping it down again :D

Every car i have owned (never had a brand spanker though) always made a noise from the pas pump on full lock , as for the whineing , just tell her to shut up for 5 mins :D :D
