Can anybody tell me how to clear the drains on a gal ,were are they for a start ? don't want to suffer a flooded footwell and damaged black box beneath seat thanks in advance mike

This may not apply to you mind but when mine failed it was the same symptoms as a clutch failure firstly started slipping under load , when revved in neutral made a horrible bloody noise and then complete failure ie no drive ! i think the only way to tell for certain is to removed gearbox as it may be just your clutch or release bearing. mike......

Lpg Conversion On 2.3 Twin Cam
mikej replied to mikej's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Form what i have been told by various installers , i currently see no less than 30mpg on a run (petrol) then i should expect no less than 27 mpg (gas) at the same speed this is using the latest kit mind , i have been told the older kits did loose a fair bit but to be honest time will tell .Those who have already converted all seem happy i am certainly looking for an equivalent of 50 mpg after install if not then i won't be happy and will soon let you know. -

I would never mix antifreeze myself and if i am not mistaken the difference in colour usually means life span ie the pink stuff is long life 4-5 yrs compared to the 2 year span of the blue i think but this is changing all the time with service intervals now upto 30k on some cars.

24mpg on a run using lpg ? thats not a great deal surely ? i normaly get no less than 30 out of the gal on petrol at 70mph ,The loss of power is no great concern as long as it is still drivable. My main concern is trying to justify the quoted -

Brookydave i think you misunderstand mate or more likely i havn't explained it properly , i know its completely different to cvh i was simply saying its as easy a job to do ! you mention modding a seat runner to do yours ? well this tool works on the same principle at tdc it allows you to compress the value cap/spring so you can remove the collets, cap and spring etc ,replace stem seals and then refit. Its made by snap on and as i say if the diesel is similar to the ohv which from what you describe it is then this is the tool you need .Fords will tell you it cannot be done so they can charge you a fortune to remove the head it is all lies. mike....... :)

Hi don't know if this helps as i have never seen inside the head of a ford 1.8 diesel ! if the inside is the same setup as the old ford ohv escorts and fiestas ie camshaft and rockers etc then you do not have to remove the head .I have changed the valve stem seals on the ohv's several times without removing the head even when ford were adimmant that the head had to come off .There is a tool made by snap on i think and i have on . Its as simple to use as the cvh tool .Let me know the head setup on your diesel and i may be able to help you. mike ;)

Can anyone describe the running conditions of a diesel that may suggest a maf sensor issue , ie what actually happens to the vehicle once this sensor has died or faulty .How does the vehicle run , pull , tick over is there any issue with the fuel consumption and is there a noticable difference when plugged in /unplugged etc thanks in advance all ;) mike.......

Mr T , i hold my hand up when i say i know nothing about aircon however my system was gassed by a merc dealer with all the right kit , there was virtually nothing left in the system to weigh prior to its first refill but my aircon would still engage i know this because i could hear it switching behind dash and could feel the extra load on the engine however he did put approx twice as much as he should have in the system and the aircon still engaged when it did it was like changing from fourth to first the belt would screech ,burn as it slipped causing a horrible stink and the noise from the compreesor was something else ! after i emptied the system myself by hand up untill the second guy put oil in the system (approx 3 weeks) the compressor was noisey as hell it has been quiet now for several months and my aircon is cold and works fine ?? i have to agree leaving the system dead untill spring is aking for more trouble , maybe there is another fault with my system ? i don't know but its working fine at the moment lol.... mike

Hi Neal, i don't know if this will be of any use to you mate but i have the same gal /year etc and what you have described is exactly what happened to me some months back to the letter , ie aircon fine not cold but no noise from pump , went for regass and they tried to put in roughly twice the correct amount , no end of probs pump noisey as hell smell of burning rubber as belt was slipping the car was coughing farting gas from under the bonnet all the way up the road , the air con was cold for a second or two but it was obvious something major was wrong so i vented all the gas out so the pump would no longer engage. then back to no air con and no burning smell etc .The pump from then on was noisey as hell rattling etc so i thought new pump here we come ! before i ordered a new one i spoke to a independant local aircon guy who said he had seen this loads of times , yes they had put too much gas in should have been around 700 ? cannot remember the exact figure but yes they had calculated wrong or misread it and tried to put in approx twice the correct amount , now he asked if they had put any oil in the system which they did not. This is what he then done 1. emptied the system of any remaining gas 2.added oil to the system 3.refilled to approx 700? or slightly less of the recommended quantity since then my aircon has worked fine the belt has never slipped once , no gas has escaped , no smells and most of all the pump is now quite and runs fine lol....... i am also a few quid better off ? its upto you but you may want to try it you never know regards mike...... <_<
