  1. Thanks seatkid, I now know where to look. I'll report back with the results.
  2. Even with my glasses on  I can't even see the pollen filter. Which side of the engine bay is it and what do I need to remove to see it? Thanks again.
  3. Thanks for the info, can you tell me how to gain access to the wiper motor. Do I have to remove both wiper arms and remove all the plastic trim?
  4. My aux heater is intermittent and I think it may be the External Temperature Sensor. I've done a search but I can't work out where it is. Could someone please tell me where it is and what I have to do to get to it. A picture would also help because I haven't got a clue what the sensor looks like. Thanks in advance.
  5. Sounds like the resistor pack on the heater module. I think it's located on the side of the heater behind the glove box, a red or green module I think. Do a search.
  6. I have also read on the forum that the wiring between the gearbox and gearbox ECU can chafe and wear through. This then sends incorrect signals to the ECU. May be worth a quick visual check. I had an auto Galaxy that kept staying in third gear, limp home mode, and this was a fault with the gearbox ECU. ECU changed, perfect. I think what eveyone is trying to say is don't assume it's the gearbox yet. The garages want your money at the end of the day.
  7. I've read about this somewhere on the forum and it seems quite common. If I remember the metal valve stem is replaced with a rubber one.
  8. Another reason for not warming up quickly is the aux heater not firing up. This heater helps heat the engine, especially this time of year. This is a very well known problem, try a search.
  9. I see you live not too far from me. Give Millfield Autoparts in Peterborough a call on 01733 557457. They are normally very competitive and are well used in the city by garages. They may post but I'm not certain. If you get a good deal, their address is:- 429 Lincoln Road Millfield Peterborough PE1 2PE Hope this helps.
  10. VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) COM won't "talk" to your engine because it's a Ford lump. Have you tried some of your local accessory shops for the coil packs?
  11. Does this happen at high speed/windy days? If so, there is some plastic trim that runs across the bottom outside of the front windscreen. This is common to click/rattle at high speed and it can sound like it's coming from anywhere. Just needs some tweaking to find a quiet position.
  12. All sounds normal to me, you'll be surprised how hot things get before the fans kick in. If only for your own piece of mind, replace the sensor.
  13. I'm not too sure but does the 2.3 have a timing chain? Could be that.
  14. Should be ok, may use slightly more petrol if the system thinks the car is running cold. Called the choke in the good old days. :)
  15. I think you are correct, thermostat stuck in the open position. Better than being stuck closed :)
  16. This subject has been raised before and is a known issue. Normally caused by dry/worn CV joints. Try re-packing the CV's with appropriate grease and see if the problem goes away.
  17. I think they cost around
  18. Any feedback on this? Might be useful for other forum members.
  19. As far as I'm aware rear a/c was an additional option even on the Ghia X. I would say that if you have climate control and not manual a/c then you have the Ghia X. Enjoy the toys........
  20. Look here http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=81 They are very good and legal.
  21. TCH - Peterborough indeed.
  22. Yes I've had my sills bent about six times by the same main dealer. They now put notes on their work sheets to take care not to bend the sills. This means the mechanics have to adjust the position and height of the lifting device to lift the car on the chassis. Only takes a few seconds....................failure to do so gets them a
  23. The wife had a similar problem on her Focus. Turned out to be faulty coil pack. When it's dark, check for any arcing around the coil packs.
  24. I know nothing about towing, but my neighbour has the Ford fitted removable ball. He tells me that this fitment requires a special hitch on the caravan which grips the ball and works in place of the stabilizer. You may want to check, like as I say, I know nothing :) If you have a/c vents in the roof lining above the centre row and rear row of seats, then you have dual a/c. If so you will notice that the passenger side window switch is not fitted on the dash. This is because, like someone said, there is not room for the window motor due to the a/c bits. Off subject, your engine is a VW PD engine and requires oil to VW Spec 505.01. This is important. Hope the info helps.
  25. Just me thinking. If like you say only one speaker has gone, maybe it's changing the overall impedence on that channel. When you buy seperates for your home hi-fi you have to make sure the speaker impedence matches the amplifier output. So if one of your speaker coils was starting to fail would this affect everything? I hope you follow my trail of thought. You could check by measuring the resistance across the right and left channels on the radio plug to see if there is any difference.
