  1. Update.... Minibus picked me up from work as arranged, car was waiting for me all washed and cleaned inside and out. They'd adjusted the strikers on both rear doors as these had been difficult to close without slamming hard, seem improved although test will be whether the kids can close the doors from inside by themselves. The seatbelt retaining clip for the middle row of seats on the drivers side had been fixed and a new seat catch had been fitted where the original had broken off. Was charged 169.00 which was what I'd been quoted. Only parts were oil and filter, no part numbers so have to assume correct oil had been used. Service book stamped up, a 'visual check' checklist supplied which included thickness of discs and pads and tyre depth. So, no complaints although there wasn't anything wrong mechanically before I took it in so wasn't really expecting to notice much difference, certainly seems fine on my 55 mile journey around the M25/M3 this morning. Service manager mentioned Ford would probably be in touch soon to survey how satisfied I have been, and urged me to say 'completely satisfied' rather than just 'satisfied'. I said as long as nothing untoward came to light I would do this. So, based on my limited, first-time experience of Evans Halshaw Welwyn I would give them the thumbs up so far, although on a 10,000 mile year old car you wouldn't expect much to be a problem. But certainly the customer service side of things was very good.
  2. Well , the Gal has done 10,100 miles from new and it's having its first service today. Will report back later to say whether I recommend my local dealer, Evans Halshaw of Welwyn, Herts (used to be CD Brammall until recently) Initial impressions good, service receptionist examined car with me and a few faults discussed. Was dropped off at work by their minibus and will collect me later so nice not to have to worry about organising lifts, public transport etc. Still, we'll see what happens later when I pick up car. It seems hard to find many good reports about main dealers ! I'll report back !
  3. I always thought LPG was LESS economical (slightly) than petrol, it was the fact it was so much cheaper than petrol to fill the tank was where the savings came from. This was the case on a converted Nissan Primera some years ago
  4. Does anyone know what is involved in fitting heated mirrors to a bog standard Gal ? I don't need electric adjustment but heating would be nice especially in the sort of weather we get in the winter. AS far as I can tell heating and electrical adjustment go together - I would prefer just to add heating to my manual mirrors if possible
  5. Driving to work yesterday in a complete daze (pretty normal really  ) when I stalled the Gal (2005 TDI 115). Restarted and carried on fine, then noticed the red LED on the drivers door was flashing quickly, then after a minute or so flashing slowly, then went off. Car ran fine during this time. Is this normal or does it indicate a possible problem. Still under warranty so would like to find out if a sign of some underlying fault
  6. I just had the petrol low warning light come on and noticed it had been 532 miles since I last filled up. That cost about
  7. My 2005 Galaxy Silver TDI 115 only has manual mirrors too
  8. Yes, my new TDi 115 shows exactly the same behaviour.
  9. The 50ppm figure quoted for crystals normally relates to the stability, rather than an absolute tolerance. All this means is that the frequency will not drift by more than 50ppm. So a very close crystal will probably be fine especially for an application like this
  10. I checked up on this in the paperwork I got with my new (March 2005 05) TDI and from I can work out the first year is covered by the standard manufacturers warranty. I think this is covered by non-Ford services as long as Ford specs are followed and genuine parts used. The year 2&3 is covered only as long as Ford do the services, the implication that this is 'free' (unless you upgrade to one of the extra cost packages). So bizarrely it may be OK to have non-Ford services in the first year, but not year 2 and 3. I may be talking complete bo110x of course, but it is certainly a grey area and would imagine you'd have a battle on your hands if something major went wrong and your service book (and computer records) are not all Ford. I do approx 10k miles/year so will probably need a 10k, 20k (both quoted at
  11. I bought a brand new Galaxy Silver TDI in March. This is basically the cheapest model you can get - it cost only about 1000 more than a 2.3 petrol. I don't do a huge mileage but I reckon I easily save 10-15 quid a week on fuel so it will pay for itself in less than two years. If I sell the car I will get all of the 1000 premium back compared with a petrol, although I'm intending to keep it 10 years and assume it'll be worth nothing at the end. Servicing will be more expensive but I still think if buying new the diesel is the best buy. However the case for a second hand diesel is often harder to make unless you're doing a high mileage.
  12. Got to France and back no problems - Gal was packed with 2 adults, 3 kids and loads of luggage. Over 1000 miles got about 40mpg, that was a combinatiion of about 85mph steady on motorways (French motorways seem much hillier !) and quite a bit of local roads, with some slower cruising at abou 70mph on way home as was much too early for ferry. Would recommend Speedferries.com - ran on time, absolutely no problems. Oh, and headlamp masking seemed to work fine, didn't really notice any significant loss of brightness.
  13. Many thanks MM This will be the first big trip for me in the Gal (bought it in March this year) so I'm interested to see how it performs re fuel consumption etc. I'll keep you all posted - thanks again.
  14. Can anyone with a TIS disk post the image for the position of the deflectors. Many thanks
