Hi Wolfman62, I was thinking of doing exactly the same. I presume you run it off the car battery through a power outlet/cigar lighter. Where did you get your power supply from?

Thanks for the advice Mussey1 and EVSS

We too would like remote central locking, we're getting fed up with these sticky locks, but any DIY is beyond me so I phoned the main Ford dealer for a quote. The sales guy rang back..... "I've spoken to my colleague and he says the cost would be too prohibitive for the benefits, it's not just a matter of fitting a box of tricks we'd have to get access to the loom and re-wire, it would cost hundreds". Astounded I replied " But I know there are some DIYers on the Galaxy users website who are doing it themselves". "Well I'm sorry I can't give you a different answer but that's what I've been told" So aren't I the lucky one with such a considerate local Ford Main Dealer, they didn't want to swindle me out of hundreds of pounds for a system that would not benefit me. How can we on this site now continue to call them Fraud Dealers?

"And big thirst, big wallet, big arse, big ego etc need I go on? " I should make it clear that I was refering to SAIntruder's cubes=cubic inches message, not about his wife buying herbal this and that. No offence meant SAIntruder, hopefully none taken.

Hi Castle, My wife also had a small accident with the passenger door wing mirror, luckily they fold back on themselves so all that happened was that it got a slight scratch on the front surface. She wasn't at all bothered about it and thought a new one would only be a few pounds. I pointed out that they are electric and heated, and that if she thought of a number, doubled it and added a bit more she might get an idea of the true price. I guessed at

Hi everyone, Took the family to London for the week-end for sight seeing and museum visits etc. Went to Sainsburys early Monday with the family to get the weekly shopping and spotted the offside rear tyre was flat on walking back to the Gal. "Don't worry it'll only take take 10 mins to change" I assured the wife. Could be worse, the puncture could have happen zooming up the M11 at 70mph! Some bu**er had really overtighten all the nuts and I had to stand and bounce all my 83Kg on the spanner to loosen them, left the locking nut for last and hoped it was on looser. No it wasn't. Gently increased foot pressure on spanner until it gave way, the spanner adapter had sheared away the inside of the head!!!! Phoned Brittania Rescue and were taken home within 40 min, family and shopping dropped off and then taken to Ford dealer.

I have a 110bhp Tdi and the manual says you should check the oil level every 500miles, usage could be 1L every 500 miles if I remember correctly. However, I driven our car 2,500 miles now and it doesn't seemed to have consumed any oil at all I'm glad to say.
-
The MAF sensor on my Tdi had already died when I bought; it had only done 52,000 miles.

Ditto Ivor's sentiments. I'll be interested to know how you get on with Euro Diesel in Norwich as that's my home town. Good luck with all your cars!

Centre Dashboard Storage Bin
bushm replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Perhaps it's for storing sticks of celery. Haha Ford beat Vauxhall yet again! If you saw Clarkson's review of the new Vauxhall on Sunday's Top Gear you'll understand the joke. -
Hey Pete C, you haven't seen a really dirty diesel until you've been to one of the Eastern European ex-communist-controlled countries. The first time I drove to Poland was in 1995 and I could not believe how the government allowed some of these lorries to be on the road. I reckon they must have had burning tyres in their engine compartments, the smoke was so dense, black and acrid and they only seemed capable of 30mph max on main roads. In Krakow old town square, there is a series of LCD displays showing current CO2, CO and SO2 levels, its the only city where both my wife and I had persistent headaches until we left; at least that meant no more children were conceived on that trip!

Thanks Eddie, now I understand what the oil spec in my Ford Handbook refers to (ACEA A3-96 or B3-96). So to summarise: Castrol SLX II should be safe for all Galaxy diesel engines and thats what VW use, Ford use the cheapest one-fits-all Mobil oil or left-overs from the local fish n' chip shop as long as it passes the ACEA A3/B3-96 spec, SEAT may or may not know what to use, there are different oils depending on whether the computer tells you a serice is due or if the mileage indicates a fixed service interval and the critical thing is the oil filter should be changed once a year. I wish I still had the phone number of that chap who was selling the 300,000 miler, he must have been using the right stuff!

Just to be devils advocate and muddy the water....My local Ford dealer has just told me I should use Ford 10W-40XR oil for my Jan 2000 TDi 110bhp engine at
-
That's what I thought, but thanks for confirming it Ivor.
-
My MAF sensor needed replacing and the effect was permanent, ie difficult to rev over 3000rpm. I don't know if they fail totally or gradually die, perhaps yours might be the latter. Someone here will tell you what the problem is though. Good luck with it.
