Hi, My wife has noticed a beeping sound when she switches on the ignition (position before starting the engine) of our 2000 Galaxy TDI. The first time she opened the door to ask me what it was and it stopped, the second time she opened the window to ask and it stopped and today it stopped after 5 beeps. It does not re-occur during the rest of the day. Any ideas what it is? Any info much appreciated.

Thanks gregers1 and vr6galaxy have a nice time shopping on Christmas Eve.

OK then how do I get to the wires? Do they run up the rear pillar in the car or through the roof lining? You're talking to a complete novice, so technical talk will fly straight over my head.
-
Checked the wires in the top right loom and there are several damaged ones there. Anyone know how much an independent garage would charge to splice in new wires?
-
If this problem of wires breaking in the tailgate is common, has anyone been back to their main dealer to complain of a design fault and get it fixed free of charge? I still believe in fairy tales and happy endings.

Thanks for all the advice. Max

Hi I noticed this morning that the reversing lights on my TDi 2000 V reg gal didn't work. Then I noticed neither was the hi level brake light or when tested the rear fog lights. The number plates light up, so do the brake lights in the rear clusters and the indicators. The rear wash works but the wiper is a bit slow. I looked in the users manual and I far as I could see they are all on different fuses. What is going on? Could several fuses blow all at the same time? Or is there some connection between these circuits that could be faulty? Help much appreciated as it has it's MOT test at the end of Dec. Oh and anyone looking for a new rear exhaust box and middle section should try FastFix, they quoted me

Alloy Wheel Security Nuts
bushm replied to familyman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Same thing happened to one of my security wheel nuts when I had a flat tyre. Ford said they only sell the "pastry cutter" design, so like RussT I had all 4 replaced with normal nuts. Agree about the wheel nut wrench, its useless. Before going on holiday I tried to slacken off all the nuts which had been over tightened by the last garage to fit new tyres and couldn't budge any of them with the Ford wrench. I bought a telescopic one from Halfords for about -
Headlamp Convertors - Advice Please
bushm replied to Taliska's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I was told the deflectors (clear plastic with numerous parallel lines) are best. They bend the light towards the right hand side (ie where you want it when in Europe) rather than just block the light heading towards the left (that dazzles the continentals) as tape does. -
Glass only should be about

Yes I speak from experience same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago driving home from the garage after a service. The garage fitted a new glass for
-
Yes I had one fitted only last week. It works well so far (touching wood as I type). Took 2.5 h to fit, don't know why it took so long compared to EVSS.

Hi AdrianM and welcome to the forum. What part of the country are you from? There have been quite a few Galaxys for sale in the local Norwich paper recently. Max

Booked Service & Cambelt Change
bushm replied to gazza007's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
For anyone in the Norwich area, I just had my 60,000 mile service and cambelt change done on my Gal by Taverham Motor Company (01603 868745). They lent me a car and charged -
I borrowed a digital thermometer from work at the week-end and got the following results driving along at 60mph with only the central vents open and the fan setting set to 4 and the temperature dial turned to cold. The probe was in the left centre vent. Outside temp C vent temp C 10 3.1 13 4.8 15 4.8
-
So how cold should the air coming out of the vents be when the air con is set to its coldest setting? Is this info in the TIS CD?
-
Your 53mpg makes my 44mpg seem very poor. My Gal is due for it's 60,000 mile service in 2 weeks, I'm hoping the mpg will improve a bit afterwards.
-
Dashed to Thetford Forest and back yesterday at 60-70 mph, a round trip of 68 miles on 7 L (1.54 gallons) Sainsburys diesel, =44.2 mpg. That was with the air con on, 5 seats in, 2 adults, an 8 year old, a 6 year old and a 14 month toddler and all their bikes, picnic and paraphernalia.

Hi pinbot, When I was choosing a Shalaxy there were virtually none around for weeks then a SEAT and a Galaxy appeared, the former at a SEAT dealer and the latter at an independent. Both were 110bhp TDi's with ~50,000 on the clock, both the same price. The SEAT was better spec'd but the engine sounded like a tractor when I test drove it. The engine in the Galaxy was so much quieter that we chose it for that reason alone. So the test drive comparison is vital and make sure that you check EVERYTHING works. Even check the keys for damage: one of mine...the one the salesman kept in his drawer until we'd bought the car...was slightly damaged and would stick in the door locks, replacing it cost about

You'd need a hell of a lot of double sided sticky tape/ velcro to stop your missus sliding off that steep bonnet. Perhaps Ivor can knock up a wife-supporting wooden frame that clips on and off the bonnet.

Rear Wiper Parking Position
bushm replied to bushm's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for your replies. Where are the contacts of the switch that short the motor out, are they easy to access? -
Does anyone out there know why my rear wiper has forgotten its proper parked position? It seems to stop in random places when switched off. Thanks.

Thanks for the photos of the remote fob Mussey1, they look nice.
-
A question for Mussey1 or EVSS or anyone else with the Cobra 1046 remote locking system. I imagine you must get 2 (?) remote units or fobs that attach to your car key ring. How big are they and what do they look like? Any photos would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Max.
