  1. Hello Are you saying you always get it with engine startup because thats the only time you are in P? According to the haynes manual, the solenoid that locks the selector stick needs functioning brake lites to works. It could be a dicky brake light switch. Do you hear the clicking of the solenoid during normal driving when braking? I suppose it could also be a sticky solenoid. You coul dhave a look to see it it's got crap on it. Hope this gives you a few ideas Steven
  2. Out of interest, how do you know when you have the fluid at the correct test temp of 35- 40deg without some diagnostic kit? Do you just run it for a bit and hope for the best? I'd like to check/change my fluid, I can't believe these things will last for life on the same fluid. Thanks Steven
  3. Do you still need a GB sticker if your number plate has the country code on it? Steven
  4. I've just bought a pair of Halfords Beam deflectors. they were about a fiver, and included loads of instructions of how to fit them on modern cars without the lines. You could try them. Steven
  5. Just a quick update. It works perfectly now :) looks like it was just the pipe. Thanks again for the advise Steven
  6. Guys Just had the indicator out, and lo and behold, the rubber pipe was perished and cracked. I think this must have happend with the previous owner as well as the now even shorter pipe is a bit of a snug fit, I may have to get a longer bit and replace it. It looks like the thick black pipe goes under the bettery tray and joins onto a thin clear (ish) one. I can't go for a test run now, but will try it tomorrow. Thanks for the tip about the brake switch, that had occured to me as well, but I'm not too keen on trying to fiddle around under there yet. We all know what happens, you get the switch out fine, and spend the next 3 hours cursing trying to get the bugger back in! Thanks again all Steven.
  7. Good God! That was a quick reply! You've convinced me, I'll check it tomorrow. Thanks Steven
  8. Hello all I've got a 2000 2.3 auto with intermittent cruise control. From searching the site it looks like the commonest problem is the rubber pipe from the vacume pump, but before I delve into that I'd like your opinions on the symptoms. Intermittently the cruise control will just dissengage and won't come back on when I press the button. What also happens is that sometimes it won't even engage, normally when you press the button you can hear a relay clicking in the cabin, when it's not working you hear nothing. Try it 20 mins later and it nay work... Any ideas? does this look like the vacume pipe problem or something else? Thanks for your help. Steven
  9. Hello all I'm going to look at a 2000 Galaxy 2.3 Ghia Auto this weekend. It's got quite a high mileage (77,000) but does have a full service history. The only bit I'm unsure about is the auto box. I can't really get a good handle on wether the auto box is a good one in the Gal. I can obviously get a reasonable idea of the box by taking it for a test drive, but if I'm correct, I can't check the Tranmission fluid to see if its still nice and clean and not burnt or bitty. Is that correct? What are your thoughts? I dont plan on putting many miles on the thing, about 4-5K a year. The rest of the car is immaculate inside and out. it's just the auto box I'm not sure about ... The Seller is looking for about
