  1. Well, recently mine definately beeped 5 times when I definately left the bleeding lights on  And it defiantely wouldn't start either.. What was up with the autobox? Also, what was the cost, if you don't mind me asking! Steven
  2. Hello all During my weekly poke around under the bonnet I found a narrow pipe lying on the ABS pump. It leaves the engine bay alongside the coolant pipes for the rear heater. The pipe "looks" like it shoudl fit on top of a solenoid i can see behind the expansion bottle. I connected the pipe up and it fits OK but I just wantet to check with everyone to see if thats IS where it's supposed to go. Here is a pic of the solenoid with the pipe re-attached. http://www.toyland.demon.co.uk/Solenoid.JPG Sorry about the quality, it was a difficult one to photograph! What is the solenoid? and should this pipe be connected to it? Thanks Steven
  3. What a farce! Seatkid was probably right, a wiring fault.
  4. Well, at least your getting a new gearbox. Did you say before that they were swapping the TCM as well? Similar thing happend to me with the previous owner of my car. Had a funny thrumming type noise, under warranty, so in goes a new auto gearbox. I get the car, and lo-and-behold, i hear this thrumming noise. I didn't hear it on the test drive. it was the front wheel bearings. When I told Ford Protect what it was they were not happy with the prev dealer  Steven
  5. Tony Whats the current situation with your car? Fixed yet? Steven
  6. Just looked The thicker pipe goes to the tube NEAREST the exhaust manifold on mine. Give me a shout if you need anything else. Steven
  7. Neil Do you know if it's the same on a 2.3? If so I'll have a look at mine to verify for you. steven
  8. Well, as the cruise contol switches are on the same stalk as the indicators, it would look like you possibly have a broken wire. The machanical movement of the stalk may have loosend something. I've never takn mine off, so don't know whats inside. Steven
  9. Dan Yes it can, happend to me when it really rained hard. Steven
  10. I'm pretty sure it's push in. Over time i've replaced quite a few instrument cluster bulbs and they have all been push in. Some are tight in the holders though. Steven
  11. I ponder this one now and then, change or not change the atf..... Is yours the AG4 gearbox? I would think so. This is the same as the VW 0M1 (i'm pretty sure). There is quite a lot on the net about changing the fluid on these. If they are the same box, the "filled for life" really means filled for the life of the warranty. lots of people (mostly yanks it has to be said) change the fluid AND the filter by droppind the sump. Judging by some of the pictures it's probably a good idea too. Take a look here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?cmd=print&id=1064342 It leads of to some interesing reading. as for the fluid, as long as you get the correct Ford/VW spec you should be OK, but being a bit of a scared-e-cat (sp), i'd pay the extra and get it from the dealer  Let us know how you get on. Steven
  12. He's probably right, but what does it say in you warranty policy document?
  13. How high is it then? under what conditions is it high? stationary? moving? Steven
  14. Neil What are you using to read the fault codes? I see you have Ford engine, so it's not VAG-COM. Steven
  15. How high is high? When you 1st start the engine and its cold it will tickover higher than normal. This will drop when the car warms up. When moving the tickover is also elevated. Try pressing the clutch, watch the idle speed and then stop the car. A few seconds later it will drop again. Steven
  16. Getting confused here. I'm sure I read somewhere that there is no kickdown switch, but i think there is now. The throttle cable does through some kind of device with a cable connector coming from it. it's attached to the bulkhead with the cable coming through it. Thoughts?
  17. Hello all On a couple of ocassions now my autobox has been a bit too keen on staying in too low a gear. This has always been after hard acceleration. I can read an error with VAG-COM stating that the kickdown switch/TPS is reporting implausable readings. As the car (2000 2.3 Gal) doesn't have a kickdown switch and works out kickdown via the TPS, it looks like it may be that or a dodgy cable. I'm currently thinking more toward the TPS because it only does it after hard acceleration, but is intermittent. I'll check the wiring, but the main question is if I replace the TPS will i need the full VAG-COM (I only have the shareware one atm) or a trip to the dealers to do whats called "basic setup". TIS states that it needs to be done. It would appear that is some kind of procedure to let the gearbox ecu know where the end of the TPS is. Would something like that get learned or does it really need to be set? Thanks Steven
  18. I'm pretty sure the hanes manual is right. it's the same for the side vents, you prize them out with a scewdriver as well. Steven
  19. I take it you mean the climate control is still flashing... I'm not sure you can stop it flashing without clearing the code with vag-com. you could try disconnecting the battery for a while to see if that clears it. Who fitted the compressor? If it were me, i'd be inclined to go back and ask them to do it. in it's current state the unit "thinks" there has been a problem, surely a decent repairer would fix the fault and clear the error in the controller. Steven
  20. Is this a wind-up? Unfortunately not! I can't believe the dealer can't tell you why the car is in limp home mode, it's only going into it because there is a fault logged in one of the ECU's. Is there diagnostic kit broken or something? As the gearbox went into 3rd gear, it could be a problem with that, but again, they should be able to read the auto box ECU to see what the problem is. Steven
  21. In that case, it sounds like you will be fine with the cheap cable. That, along with the freeware VAG-COM is certainly able to check fault codes and clear them. Steven
  22. It all depends on what you're after. As stairforce said, I bought the cheap one off ebay. It's correct that it only works with the older shareware version of VAG-COM, but that may be all you need. All I required was a way of reading fault codes and resetting them (mainly to see why my climate control was flashing). If I need more advanced features, I may shell out for the expensive one, but
  23. Stairforce Ahh yes, it was you wasn't it.... Had the same problem with my inhibitor switch, but as i'm tight fisted - I fixed it myself. It may be worth your while getting a cheap cabe off ebay and the shareware version of VAG-COM. That will allow you to read and reset gearbox fault codes. There is a guy on ebay who sells the cheap ones called alpha-bid. Thats where I got mine. If it's still stuck in 3rd after they reset the faults, they must be back again for you to read. That is unless there is anyone near Stratford-upon-Avon who is willing to assist you.. Steven
  24. Jim Look in the I.C.E. section. danyoda1 is getting rid of a changer!!
  25. Bigboy Is the gearbox still in limp home mode or did you fix that? Steven
