Aux Heater Timer Module
George106 replied to Mirez's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I may forget to install it properly :) as on another instructions I got from different ebay seller of the identical kit they mentioned there should be something done about blue plug of climate control unit (I have read on another forum something about pin 18). Mark, did you connect/disconnect anything at this connector? It may be the problem. In original instructions from my seller there is following: - Install the cable with labelling Climatro to the climatronic. Take off the red connector from the climatronic. Disassemble the connector. Plug in the blue cable into pin 20. Reassemble the red connector. (picture 18+19+20+21) - Install the cable with labelling Climatro to the climatronic. Take off the blue and red connector. George -
Regarding new brushes assembly I have read on another forum quite interesting approach. They didn't drill any holes to keep them in place but put just one drop of water on each brush whilst kept in the place by round object inserted inside and put in the freezer to let it freeze. Then you have to be quick otherwise everything defrosts and you can start again. George

Aux Heater Timer Module

That's right, I am about to leave blower off for at least first 10 minutes as the water is cold anyway and it would preserve battery significantly. I have already one switch on the dashboard for temperature sensor and another switch would not make it looking worse. George -

I have managed to buy new heater ECU on ebay and hopefully this would sort my problem with the blower out. At the moment, blower spins at the beginning but stops before glow plugs is switched on and doesn't start again. Regarding independent heating, how could I switch climate control unit off and heat just the water in the system. Would be enough to switch them off by disconnecting the wire from pin 20 at red plug of the climate module? George -
Currently I have new one in the box and the Bosch Part Number is 0 392 020 073. VW / Audi 3D0 965 561 D resp. 1J0 965 561 A. George

What Battery For Galaxy 1.9tdi
George106 replied to George106's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Battery should be charged fine as I do drive quite long distances at least once week. Actually this battery has not let me down either but with normal use in mild weather(not running heater). Because I didn't want to make life complicated and I didn't want to go the way of fitting whole auxiliary circuit with battery under the driver seat I need to invest in better battery instead. Current battery (don't have any idea how old this one is) was fitted by the dealer who sold gal to me as the previous one was dead and they had to start gal up every time with jump start pack. Hi, I have fitted independent Eberspacher programmable heating and after one 30 min cycle battery still starts the car but after two cycles voltage drops under 10.9V not enough for starting. Currently there is Motequip 105Ah battery however not sure about it's age as I have gal for one year. I found two very similar batteries which should fit in the tray and now need to decide which one. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250648000498 or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250713297621 Thanks George

Aux Heater Timer Module

Hi everyone, regarding the intermittent blower fault nothing has changed, even after heating contacts in the ecu plug. Sometimes it work flawlessly however most of the time it fails to spin blower and log 01414 open circuit error. I am looking for new ecu which hopefully will sort problem out. I believe I need look for ecu for D5WZ heater only, are there any other parameters I should check as well? Thank George -

To Mark, I am quite flexible and can come down during week if needed. Regarding the plug, there are new just two wires from the motor, not whole plug. I'll try to heat contacts up with the iron today/tomorrow (basic iron 40W). Thanks George -

Would that bl**dy heater ever stop messing up with me? Yesterday morning was everything working sweet but in the evening blower refused to spin again  . This morning decided open it up again and there was nothing wrong with the cover as the blower didn't bother to spin without it. Unscrewed ECU and had a bit play with blower motor wires around the plug and it started/stopped spinning. So I guess there must be some connection glitch. Motor and it's wires including plug connectors are brand new, so there has to be some plug issue. To Mirez, would you be able to spent some time with my heater if I pop to you when convenient? Sorry to bothering this thread with this problem, but it's related some way, isn't it? George -

Just another thing, whenever I switch heating through timer module off I can hear clicking in relay area (probably relay responsible for running cc fan). Also it happens when cc fan is on when engine running and I switch ignition off. I does not happen when I switch ignition on or press heating button for heating. Should I worry about it? George -

Hi guys, I hope this is my last post in this thread ^_^ As I have posted above, I still had the problem with blower part and got either 01414 Blower open circuit or 01409 repeated flame out which was the consequence of blower not working. I have replaced motor part of the blower and what was messing up all the time was the black cover which sits from the top. The rotating fan was sticking on some places and heater ECU diagnosed this situation as open circuit (wasn't spinning when needed). I did sand off inner round part of the cover a bit and after the test it's finally working. If anyone needs any help regarding dismantling, changing glow plugs, gauze etc. in Southampton area, send me PM and I'll do my best to help you. Thanks for reading George -

Just remembered couple of thing.... the relay (part number 7M3 9591 43 A) for run-on-pump had different number on the top (437 instead 430) but was the right one. Also wire colours on the instruction sheet were sometimes different eg. red & black for 430 relay were red & blue, also two wires I have connected to on heater were black & black/red instead of black & black/blue. And lastly when you cut wire from fuse 22 for blower connection, check if you cut the right one as there are two of them just next to each other (both used for AC). George -

Finally after approx. 7hours of dismantling, cutting, soldering I managed to install "independent heating" successfully. Just to let anyone buying kit from ebay (Germany), as they are made for LHD cars (battery and aux heater is on the same side)you would have to extend cable to the battery compartment (I did not fit secondary battery) and also to aux heater. Otherwise most of the wiring was plug&play or crimp on however I have soldered all connection instead. To Mirez, I have run first 30min successfully and water temperature was around 68deg. (13deg outside). When I tried another session, blower refused to start and at VCDS I got error 1309 Blower - open circuit even though I have changed blower motor week ago. I decided to lower whole unit down and run the heater without blower top cover and system started normally. After that I tried another 3 attempts (I fitted blower cover back, then pushed heater in the bracket etc.)which were sometimes OK and twice I just heard blower and fuel pump with dripping diesel afterwards. My two last attempts were unsuccessful as the battery voltage dropped under 10.9V and heater refused to ignite. I even haven't been able to start the car and had to use jump start pack. To sum up, I guess heater wouldn't start properly when battery voltage drops under certain level. I will leave gal to cool down and try to start heater for the last time today. George -

To Mirez, do you think 437 relay is actually 430 just wrongly marked? I can check how many wires/what colour this 437 has.... Also this relay is on the same place as 430 should be.... Would you have any wiring diagrams which would help? Thanks George -

Hi George Just wondering what make kit you are using as I didn't have to take out the CJB layer etc when I did mine, just one wire on mine to the green plug for deactivating interior monitoring when fans blowing. All other wiring was behind climate control, heater blower, run on pump, and under car. regards Chris Hi Chris, I bought this one and according to instruction I need to connect two wires to the relay 430 which runs run-on-pump. Also two wires at fuse S22 for blower, one wire at climatronic, one wire at green plug for central locking, four wires in the sill for the aux heater, one wire from light switch etc. George -

Hoops, managed to unhook whole bit and tilt everything out however instead of 430 relay I have only 437relay. Is in the same position but number differs. Is this the right one? George -

Hi Mirez, I managed to fit clock module and remove plastic underneath the steering wheel but not sure how to "hang out" CJB to get to 430 relay? Do I have to unplug all three bunch of wires to get more slack or is there anything else what should be done. Also how can I get the fuse holder off the bottom of the CJB? And lastly according to instruction should I cut green/grey wire from light switch (pin 17) and connect wire from clock module or solder it on the wire instead? Thanks for your time George -

At the end I bought cheaper blower part for similar blower and "robbed" the motor from there. Has the same size and is 8.6V instead of 8.4V. Parted blower/burner part, changed gaskets, fitted back in the gal and started engine. After approx. 5 minutes of idling heater started to smoke/work. After another 20 minutes water temperature rised to 85deg heater started to shut down (max.temperature in burner was 310deg) . However next time when car was stationary heater failed to start properly and got famous 01409 flame out error and also blower fan outside of specification error. Now heater finished second successful run without any error codes (when driving). It may be some air intake problem when is gal stationary? How should I check if the door sill is not blocked anyway (I actually have large piece of plastic over the floor behind driver/passenger seats with my working stuff which may block anything) ? Thanks Mirez, I would try fix my aux heater instead. Regarding the independent heating, would you have somewhere better instructions than I have already available? Also my interior sensors are already disconnected so I guess I don't need to disable them. -

Yes, I have the same error code, last winter when I actually used heater for the first time it always logged 01414 - Combustion-Air Blower (V6) 16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications and it lasted whole winter. I was changing glow plug, gauze and before all this happen there was spring and heater wasn't used at all. Now I get open circuit code which shows dead blower IMHO. I was looking at this part which should be hopefully the same if you change the top cover for the old one. (Mirez could you check the part number and compatibility.) Also when I rang Ebespacher dealer they wanted around £140 incl. VAT IIRC and VW over £170 for the same bit. I actually got new unit from the ebay but returning it as there are not any thread cut (4 holes for the top cover and two holes for securing ECU part)just plain holes. It should be relisted soon of you are interested. I would have to check what's wrong with the motor as in general looks absolutely fine (clean without rust etc. and free wheeling).... George -

Hi guys, winter is coming again and aux heater timer upgrade is becoming more needed. However currently my aux heater doesn't work (last winter I had famous 01414 error Blower fan outside of specification IIRC) and after summer heater was dead and after scanning I get error stated Blower fan = open circuit. I tried to source new blower part however as this part is over 100quid I would consider other options as well. I came across this websitewhere you can source whole unit quite reasonably priced. I am not sure if D5WS version is compatible with my car (galaxy 2002)as I have D5WZ version atm. Would be D5WS more suitable for timer conversion or shall I just fix my current heater to make my life easier. PS: I have not tested motor yet and my idea was to replace just the motor in the blower unit a the rest seems to me fine. There is similar blower part available on ebay which would be good source of motor for fraction of the price of the whole blower unit. Thanks for any input George -
Hi guys, got new blower unit today but need new torx screws and I don't have any idea what VW part number they could be. Would you be anyone able to get the number or shall I use just normal screws? George
