  1. Check that both of the stop/tail lights are OK and don't have a filament hanging loose.
  2. A good test for the servo is to run the engine at a fast idle to get the vacuum up then switch off the engine. Pump the brakes until the vacuum is gone then hold down the brake pedal and start the engine. If the pedal falls then the vacuum is fine. How did you get your BHP?Torque figures up so high btw?
  3. is the indicator stalk at the off position?
  4. Aye, track-rods you can probably do with nothing more than a good smack with a lump hammer as the heads are accessible. But I recommend that if you ever need a ball joint splitter then you go for a fork type one. Every scissor type I have tried has stripped it's threads out. They use the fork type at my work, just a big big version.... This one is good for levering them apart afterwards too. http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/splitter.jpeg
  5. Have you checked the bulbs? Does it only happen when the side/headlights are on?
  6. If the engine was not getting up to running temperature then the engine would be running a higher air/fuel ratio which could have been the cause of your problems.
  7. Try blocking your radiator with some cardboard and see if that helps...
  8. From a cold start this morning mine never got fully warmed up, even after an hour. Twas cold round this way, and both heaters were going full bore....
  9. Agreed, if they had fitted a new gearbox, ecu & loom then I doubt that the problem would be unsolved....
  10. It sounds like the module has had a fit for some reason. Is the ECU for the central electrics under the driver's seat? It can get wet there and will lock and unlock the doors and open and close the window of it's own accord, flattening the battery. The airbags will have to be reset at a garage that has a suitable interface (most good garages will have this these days) or using VAG-COM.
  11. It certainly is an issue with the seat in some cars particularly the MK1 Vauxhall Vectra, but that is to do with the connector for the wires for the seatbelt pre-tensioners. I suppose there could be a similar issue with Galaxies with side air-bags etc. It is not an MOT failure though, but you I would think you would want to get it sorted asap. If it is a common fault there will be a TSB about it, I will look and see in a moment.
  12. To check the wiring you should unplug the coolant temperature sender. Connect a volt meter to the glowplug harness and ground. Turn the ignition on, the glowplug harness should show just under the battery voltage for 20 seconds.
  13. Well obviously it depends on how cold it is, but mine went to halfway between the bottom and middle in about 3 minutes, but even after 20 minutes it had only just got above there. That was with the heaters going full out. It never got to the middle.
  14. Martin, I just went to get my son from school and can confirm what I said above. When the gauge got halfway between and normal the fan in the heater slowed to a lower whine and the fuel pump ticks got farther apart! So defiantly the booster going onto low output.
  15. Mine sails up to halfway between cold and normal and then the booster goes into low output mode I think. The pump certainly reduces how many taps per second so I presume less fuel going in.
  16. Timpson's are the cheapest for cutting. About
  17. HOW MUCH? I can see me making a living by trips to Daventry and eBay auctions!
  18. Mine does not match the handbook or the fuse box guide. I have a 1998 Alhambra and the fuse layout looks the same as mine, quite different from the 1997 models.
  19. My 1998 Alhambra has Ford connectors and a Ford amplifier.
  20. The MAF is indeed the pipe you mentioned and if the car gets most of it's go back when it is unplugged then yes, you have found the problem.
  21. Try your local Vauxhall dealer for a battery, they have a range called "Go" that are very high quality batteries at factor prices. And yes, they are for all makes and models, not just Vauxhall.
  22. Take it for a good long drive, if it has got worse afterwards then you have a problem, if it has cleared then it is just condenstaion.
