Where did you get the info that SKPang kit is illegal copies? My SKPang lead came with a VAG-COM licence certificate that was registered with Ross Tech.

Can I also point out that the cheap leads that are available are most likely ones that opto-electronics, and the new software will not work with them, and this will continue to be the case. So if you don't have an official lead, in 5 years time when the software is on version xxx.x then you will still be using version 311.2 which is already over two years out of date. The current software is 512.2. So in the future if you change your car for a newer one then you might find your lead won't work.

skpang make them under licence from Ross Tech and you get a licence certificate to register with Ross Tech for support. With skpang you get a full version of the product, it is the shareware version you get no support.

The shareware is an old version of the software which is crippled in certain areas. Also you get no customer support with the shareware version.

Can't add much to SK's input. Just that they are handed so make sure you get the right one for the correct side. It will be sold as the right hand and should be marked "R"

I bought a SKPang lead, USB one. Several of the features I wanted to use were not available in the shareware version. It is a usefull tool really, and if I never have another VAG car I will sell it on eBay. But I doubt that will happen.

To fire it up on the bench you would need a 12v supply, bucket of water, a pump & hoses and a metering pump. I had a think about it a few months ago and decided not to bother....
