Its Never Done That Before
Masked Marauder replied to NikpV's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I would think that it fixed fast would result in the car failing to comply with construction and use regs. Not something that you would get picked up on, as long as it did not strike someones head.... -
Bloody kids! Ahhhhrrrggggggg!

Since I first used my winch it was obvious that it's design was poor and it needed regular use and the wire keeping tight all the time. I wind it down and up once every 3 months. Waine, was it a telescopic one? If so keep it in the door pocket, the are great for road rage attackers!

We have one that is very similar round Northampton and I don't like the colour much. Still it is variety that makes the world go round..... -

That Auxiliary Heater - Still
Masked Marauder replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just as an update my version of VAG-COM HAS communicated successfully with a D5W heater, so not a VAG-COM issue as such. -
I have already seen one person dead because of the school holidays! The ice cream man, the stress was too much. They found him dead in his van covered in crushed nuts, strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce and sugar sprinkles. The police deduced that he had topped himself!

Water Spray

If it is misting then I wold say it has to be out the vents. Any damp in them? Could it be water splashing from the scuttle onto the pollen filter? -
New Car New Problems
Masked Marauder replied to dredge3's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Could be water in the motor, check to see if the connector is wet. -
Three months ago I would not have said that. However the government want a change, but the law will take time to pass. Current rumor has it that they are pressing for a test case which would bring it into law by the back door.

Heater Booster Above 10c?

I have a bottle of liquid CO2, that would do it! -
And camera vans which can be located anywhere and need no warning signs Wrong, they can and do check anywhere. Moving checks will be done with ProVIDa, VASCAR or similar. They are "time over distance" devices and will usually be superimposed onto video. I agree, unless it has several wide angle sensors. If the laser is targeted onto another vehicle you may get a warning from the scattered light, but if it is pointed at you then your caught as it takes all it's measurements in a fraction of a second. If you then brake hard and it is a Police Officer he will likely seize the detector as evidence of attempting to pervert the course of justice. So from a likely Fixed Penalty Offer to a court case...
-
They would have to be bloody sneaky as the police/camera vans don't use radar anymore, and have not done for 8 years. You need a laser detector for the devices used now. That comment is bordering on offensive IMO. But apart from that: Anyone who thinks a Sat-Nav unit with camera database will protect them from a speeding ticket needs to buy a ticket to the real world. Do you think they camera van operators don't know where they are marked on the database? The vans have wheels you know... And traffic cops don't use regular locations and your sat-nav won't protect you from VASCAR, Police Pilot etc. The only way to avoid a speeding ticket is not to speed and observe the speed limit signs.

Heater Booster Above 10c?
Masked Marauder replied to g4hlf's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
There are two similar switches, one for the aircon on a V6 that is NC > 4 deg C and the booster heater switch which is NC < 10 Deg C. I can't help with the part number listed as the catalogue just says it is a temperature switch. I think the one you want is 701 959 625 though and is about -
Roll Restrictor
Masked Marauder replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It is usually just the bolt that holds the restrictor to the engine that fails, not the roll restrictor it's self. -
No wastegate to stick, it is a variable vane turbocharger. It could be the manifold pressure switch or a faulty accelerator pedal among other things. Ideally it needs hooking up to a PC and reading off the problems. Where about are you based?

All I know about car maintiainenece is you should use a quality grease and dont forget the nipples....

Battery, Which One ?
Masked Marauder replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well we say "Lead", but lead would deteriorate to quick on the terminal plates so it is really 94% lead/6% antimony . Problem is antimony makes the water in the battery electrolyte to evaporate quicker. So if you use calcium instead you don't have that problem. You do get others though like you really do not want a Ca battery to go totally flat and they need a slightly higher charging voltage so the alternator in a non-Ca car may struggle to charge the battery fully. The higher charging voltage does however increase the evaporation problem with Lead/Antimony batteries, hence why you need to keep an aye on the electrolyte levels. -

I meant the picture made the battery look flat! :D :16: -

The one you have is a lead-acid though, not a calcium, but I would not be to worried, it will be fine. Just once a month or so keep an eye on the electrolyte levels. That top-down picture makes it look almost 2 dimensional!
