  1. A 512Mb stick is only about
  2. They are card slots (PCI slots) not memory slots. Look behind the ribbon cbles to the right of there.
  3. SIMMs? Or do you mean the DIMM slots behind?
  4. This time last week I had a 512Mb SDRAM that was sitting getting dusty in a box, but I sold to someone for
  5. Well if as long as your happy and the PC is quick enough and not slowing to a crawl or crashing then don't worry about fixing what is not broken!
  6. They will fluctuate as the Operating System does what it has to to maintain the system, but all that data handling takes up processor cycles! And everything may seem to be working OK, but another 512Mb of SDRAM will cost a little but be worth every penny, everything will run faster. Look at it like this, Your RAM is like your bath at home. How much quicker would it be if you could bath all the kids at once instead of one at a time? Well with a bigger bath you can!
  7. P.S. A large number of BSOD OS failures are due to errors in reading or writing the Page File. The less reading and writing, the less chance of the failure.....
  8. OK, your PC has two types of memory, Physical Memory that is very fast to access (RAM) you have 256Mb of that. It also has "Virtual Memory" When the RAM is full the PC uses space on the Hard Drive as pseudo RAM which is very slow to access. This is the Page File. So if your page file is bigger than your RAM then the hard drive is being used more than the RAM. And to do this the PC has to take the information in RAM it is not doing anything with and write it to the hard disk to make room for data it does need to do something with, then recover what it wants to use from the page file in the hard disk and then put it into RAM to use it. Took a while to write this all or you and took you a bit to read it? Well if you had another 512Mb of RAM you would have saved all the time and everything would have been so much quicker, well the same goes for your PC, if it is all in RAM then all that slow reading and writing is not needed!
  9. OK, press the left Ctrl, left Alt and the Del key all at the same time. You should get a box pop open, click on the "Performance" tab. Where it says "Physical Memory (K)" what figure does it say is available? Where it says "PF Usage" what figure is there?
  10. You are confusing memory with storage. What operating system are you using?
  11. I can only do VW/SEAT part numbers, but it is a strange one! The illustration in the catalogue shows the filter holder, but describes it as a "spring clip" The part number given is - 7M0 201 509 B - and it should cost about
  12. I think I am going to go and pack my nuts with grease.....
  13. ok that wasnt even a high spec 4 years ago  I think you will find that that was above top spec for a home user 4 years ago. The P4 2.8GHz was not released until the start of Q4 in 2002, mainstream channels were not supplied with them until early December 2002. And 512Mb of RAM was considered standard then.
  14. I have been Beta testing Vista for a while. It is relatively stable but there are (not surprisingly) some driver issues. To most though the difference will just be eye candy.
  15. Any one else starting to think "bad earth?"
  16. Hell, if you can't be wrong sometimes then life would be dull!
  17. OK, I think a spark-plug socket will fit! I will check when I am dressed. Spark plug sockets have a hex top to put a ring spanner onto. You will need to either get it cut down at a machine shop or find a long hex key.
  18. have you looked in your browsers history for yesterday? http://www.thefridayproject.co.uk
  19. With new joints available for as little as
  20. There are no valves, just the two nitrogen filled diaphragm spheres and a pipe connecting them front to rear. I would have thought the pressure would have balanced. The back end of my car is in the air and no one knows why!
  21. The tool VAG use is a special ratchet handle with a hole through it! I will have a look on the internet and see if I can find anything that might help.....
  22. Anyone using IE7? I gave it a go but found it too kindergarten for me, what do you think of it?
  23. Could it be a spyware issue?
  24. MK1 is under the right hand (driver's side) indicator, MK2 is a pipe with a plastic cap that sticks up just inside the bonnet by the slam bar, again, on the right hand side.
