You might get a better responce if you introduced yourself and actually put a note on you post of the age and model. If you hear a loud click from under the bonnet I would get someone to turn the key whilst you have your hand on the soleniod on the starter motor. If you feel the click on the solenoid it could be a faulty starter. The engine warning light could be completely unrelated to the starting problem but more details of the vehicle would help! Dave

Hi Paul the earth point on the later Mk2 Galaxy is behind the plastic that holds the expansion bottle so you have to remove the battery and then the plastic trim to gain access. Best wishes Dave

I have to agree with Seatkid the wiring in the gaitor on the top right of the tailgate is the most likely candidate if the fuses have been checked. Not an over technical repair, when I repaired mine quite a few of the wires had broken but strangely everything worked! Best wishes Dave

1.9td Auto Problem
dlt1617 replied to TLS Sparky's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My Mk2 Galaxy has been doing the same thing intermitantly, I've got VCDS so I checked the fault memory and no faults are shown. You can check the operation of the switch as the Mk2 has what they call staionary decoupling where it stops the drive from the box to save fuel. I looked at the readings I had some time ago and I think the amout of movement required to go from the first to the second stage has decreased. My thought is to replace the switch and retry so I'll update when I have done this. Best wishes Dave -
Hi the dash pod is the instrument cluster i.e. the main bit with the speedo etc in, it sounds like earth problems could be the cause so I would start with tht and work from there. Also worth mentioning is the relay problem you can get which causes the fuel pump not to work (have a look I think on your age of vehicle it's 26 and 30) best to do a search on the forum and confirm Best wishes Dave

My 2002 Galaxy (mk2) has the seat belt mounted into the roof as the height of the seat alone is too low for the height required for an adult. If you look at vehicle where the belt is mounted on the seat itself the top mounting point for the belt is by the top of the headrest. Have a look at a Vclass Mercedes from around 2000 and you'll see what I mean. So I would advise against a seat mounted set up as if Fords had been able to do it it would have saved the cost of a new roof lining etc Best wishes Dave

Gear Selector Cables
dlt1617 replied to manicmanda's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi I'm not sure which cable does which job but I can confirm one cable lifts the selector shaft up and down and one moves the shaft left and right. When reverse is engaged the bit on the gear lever you pull up (if it's a mark one) allows the shaft to move further selecting reverse. Best wishes Dave -
Vag com will not help as it's not on there! The brake pad warning could be from either the front or rear, my Galaxy had the warning on due to a broken wire on the loom to the wear sensor on the pads - repaired the wire job done. So if the pads/sensors are new I would look at the wiring to them Best wishes Dave

Lights On Warning Buzzer
dlt1617 replied to snappy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi there should be a buzzer which should activate when the drivers door is open and lights are on (stating the bloody obvious I know) one question would be do you get a message confirming when the driver's door is open? The buzzre question would depend on wether the fuse supplys the power to the switch and then the lights as if this is the case the buzzer would run all the time! The other option on wiring it in would be to connect it to a relay so that it has a switched live when the igniton is off and the lights are on. Best wishes Dave -
Door Locking Problems
dlt1617 replied to seanwhu's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi I had the flappy interior door handle problem and it was the cable from the handle to the lock that had broken, seems like the problem you are having could be similar. If the power is disconnected from the battery you can still lock and unlock the door manually from the inside. I purchased a secondhand lock including the cable from e-bay. The only comment on the door card is there are the usual male clips that mostly break when removing it so worth getting half a dozen of those before you replace it. Best wishes Dave -
Front Door Inner Lever Cable Snapped

Hi Adam, welcome to the forum, I think you should do a search for removing the front door card, once removed it's quite straight forward. Dave -
Airbag Warning Light
dlt1617 replied to farny1206's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi you have two options: Get an interface for a laptop from ebay, set up the lead and software or go to a local vw/seat specialist and get them to reset it (a cash offer may reduce the cost) it just depends on how often you plan to use it. Best wishes Dave -
Sorry to say if you used connectors it wont last too long, the best way is to remove the rear top corner trim inside the car, remove the tail gate trim and disconnect the wiring. Once you have done this pull the harness into the car remove the tape so the you can cut the wire and solder in new wires so the the bit where the harness "hinges" has a single piece of wire rather than a join. The reason for this is as the breaks are due to fatigue because the wire gets folded forwards and back when the tailgate is opened and closed it will break a solder connection quite quickly. Best wishes Dave

Ford Galaxy Part Help
dlt1617 replied to ARSENAL79PLACE's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi if you could confirm the age and the model and where it goes to and from I have access to the vw parts list and may be able to confirm a number from there dependant on if the car has a vw engine. Best wishes Dave -
Hi I thought I would answer this incase it helps someone else, I've got one of those kits which includes allen, torque and multi spline bits in two lenghts and includes 3/8 and 1/2 inch sockets to use them (anyone who has one of these kits will know what I'm on about). The multispline bits go up to 12mm but guess what they are 14mm on the bell housing! A trip to a local garage equipment store (no not Hafords a proper one for garages) resulted in purchasing a twin pack which were listed for Ford bell housings. I've looked on fleabay and this link shows the same: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M14-x-30mm-Spline-Bit-Set-FITS-Ford-Bell-Housing-/160657507322?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D360489786099%26ps%3D54 Hopefully someone will be saved from the last minute OH SH"T moment I had when I went to start! Best wishes Dave

Seat Alhambra 1.9td Mis Fire When Hot
dlt1617 replied to smithyuk73's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Mike (only joking) Try one of the cheep fault code readers off e-bay (I bought a wired one rather than a bluetooth one) it will most likely come with a version of vag com. The worst bit is setting up the correct port on the computer! Best wishes Mike......oops Dave ;) -

How To Disable Interior Alarm Sensing
dlt1617 replied to jonstone's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had a problem with the alarm going off at night and it proved to be wires in the harness between the tailgate and body that were broken. I f you pull back the gaitor on the driver's and undo the tape on the harness you may find several wires broken. On mine I seem to remember 8 or 9 wires were broken! Best wishes Dave -
Engine Cuts Out At Roundabouts Etc
dlt1617 replied to PhillipB's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You haven't mentioned which particular Galaxy you have or if the local garage did a fault test on the vehicle, if the fault memory was checked I would suspect if the vehicle is petrol that you could have a faulty idle control valve, if the vehicle is diesel and the fault memory has not been checked I would have it checked first. Best wishes Dave -
Hi I know I'm not alone in having a MK2 Galaxy with a steering wheel on which the surface is falling apart, I have seen MK3 Mondeo wheels listed for the Galaxy as well on fleabay but this sounds too easy (and cheap!) does anyone konw if the Mondeo wheels fit? Many thanks Dave
