it is virtually impossible to know the quality of the part and where they are sourced - especially if someone else is supplying and fitting the part. its all about the materials used and quality of the engineering - the only way to tell which of two manufactures is better is by buying both products and testing them. you will never know if you only buy dunlops. the problem with a 'brand' is that all that is usually known about the brand is that the company is more effective at advertising.

it is difficult to access a lot of the engine components on these cars as there is not much room to work in. once you have removed the airbox and a few panels it becomes a bit easier. i don't know if genuine parts are better - dealer like you to think they are. you will probably find that most of the pattern parts are made by the same companies that make the branded parts. i am in the process of replacing my radiator - the main dealer wants

2.8 V6 Reverse Gear

the first thing to check (and cheapest) is the transmission fluid levels - it is crucial that it is the right level and can cause all sorts of weird bangs and symptoms if not right. -
Correct Lead For Vag-com
dipsomaniac replied to ed austin's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
correct order should be connect lead to car, switch on ignition and start vag com. when you click on options then test you should see port status 'OK', interface 'found'. if it doesn't work you can try disabling firewall. -
i don't see how the rad got damaged while changing oil/filter?? you need to establish if hose or rad. you will have one hose going into top or rad and one coming out of the bottom. you will probably need to remove undertray and investigate with a torch. if rad, you can solder if not caused by corrosion. otherwise you will need to replace rad.

you need to identify what it is first. collect some in a container, if you still can't confirm if coolant or washer fluid. top up coolant and windscreen wiper bottle and see which one goes down.
-
how much are you losing? is it coolant, windscreen washer, a/c? was it leaking before you changed oil/filter?

Correct Lead For Vag-com
dipsomaniac replied to ed austin's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
connect lead to computer and to car. load software, once you have connected save settings. then click 'select' not 'obd II'. -
have you tried opening and closing the bonnet before re-setting?

that will be a huge relief and save me a fortune if i don't have to remove condenser and therefore discharge a/c -
Correct Lead For Vag-com
dipsomaniac replied to ed austin's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
the v6 is definately a vw unit. i communicate with mine via a std serial cable (without dongle) using vag com version 311.2. i could not communicate with the 'dumb' interface using version 409. -
Removing V6 Radiator
dipsomaniac replied to dipsomaniac's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
thanks steve. i do have a tis but the manual only covers the 2000.75 model. can you copy to clipboard on your tis? can you confirm that i can remove the rad without disconnecting condenser and discharging a/c. -
Removing V6 Radiator
dipsomaniac replied to dipsomaniac's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
i need some help on this one. have stripped down some of the front end and am sure it is the rad that is leaking. i have a collection of haynes manuals for various cars but not the galaxy as the manual doesn't cover the v6 engine. can somebody with a mk1 haynes manual tell me if it covers removing the front bumper (complete) and also the condenser and radiator. i have been told by somebody on another forum that the unit comes out as a cassette? any help would be appreciated. -
which pipe is hanging? the one that threads through the engine bay? if so, are you sure it just hasn't become detached from a straight connector behind the headlight?

to release the tension you need to insert a large m8 bolt into the empty hole in the tensioner. just tighten enough to release the tension.
