dipsomaniac replied to Chard1966's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
i replaced my rad on my mk1 recently without disconnecting the air con. it was very tight when attaching condenser to rad but it is possible -
can anyone tell me which side wiper part no. F1124510 is? i thought it was the passenger side but the garage has fitted it to the drivers side and put the old drivers side wiper on the passenger side - they said they had to cut one of the wipers. don't know why they did this but it doesn't look right. can someone also please confirm the length of each wiper?

Automatic Gearbox
dipsomaniac replied to sarahm321's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
could it be a MAF problem? you need to get engine/gearbox fault codes read. could be transmission fluid low but i would be surprised if it was this if you had a new auto box 15 months ago -
can anyone talk me through replacing the cup holders on a mk1 manual galaxy

How To Check If A Coil Pack Is Faulty?
dipsomaniac replied to swanny1970's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
if coil pack was faulty you would have a serious misfire and not be able to get to 70mph. i would look at plugs and leads first. -
had my v6 for around 4 years now and my temp gauge has always gone up near the red when in traffic. fans cut in and it goes back down. have replaced most of the cooling system trying to find a leak but the gauge still goes near the red. i have learnt to live with it - maybe it is just the temp sensor/sender. these engine do get very hot as there is not much room for air to circulate. does yours go near the red when driving on the open road or just in traffic?

V6 2.8 Alternator Advice Please
dipsomaniac replied to eupho's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
the alternator is just about the only thing on that side that hasn't been changed on my v6 so can't help there. the air con compressor is located on that side. the hose that i think you are talking about is connected to the secondary air pump. does it connect to the airbox at the other end? if so, you can just disconnect it. the airbox just sits there, lugs on the side of the box locate into the body panels. there is a inlet pipe that fits behind the headlight. i found that i had to remove the headlight to re-fit this pipe when i removed the whole airbox. GSF are quoting -
when you say it won't work do you mean the cable, vag-com or both?
-
thanks for the replies. i haven't tried it yet as i don't know where the socket is - will have to get the tis out. i thought the eu had standardised the 16 pin diagnostic socket? the thing that is confusing me is that my cable was sold as a vag com obd II vw/audi cable. i realise that i need different software but was hoping the cable would be ok. will try it tomorrow.

only 20 views all day - what is happening to this site? somebody must have tried using their lead on another car? haven't they?

i have a 16 pin serial cable (no dongle) which i use with vag-com on my galaxy. it looks just like a std serial cable with a 16 pin socket on the end. has anyone tried using it on any other cars? my oh's 1999 diesel focus has a problem with the central locking and i am wondering if i can use this cable. i will also need to find the appropriate software.

does the chancellor allow you to call him darling? engine oil capacity - 5.5L i just removed bottom radiator hose when i replaced radiator. to bleed i ran the engine up to temp with the expansion cap off, topping up as necessary. if there is a bleed screw i haven't found it.

Power Steering Leak?
dipsomaniac replied to CM2007's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
battery tray is supporting gearbox. if you need to remove tray you will need to support gearbox from underneath. -
Power Steering Leak?
dipsomaniac replied to CM2007's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
you need to be careful if you are removing the battery tray (as opposed to plastics). Someone else might be able to confirm as it is connected to either engine mounting or suspension - can't remember which. don't forget radio code if disconnecting battery. -
you will need a special tool to remove ht leads as they sit very low in the head and are very ackward to access. you will damage the leads if you try to use long nosed pliers. the cheapest tool (plastic) i found was from vw -

Power Steering Leak?
dipsomaniac replied to CM2007's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
the power steering reservoir is on that side. you need to take the undertray off and have a good look with a torch. the plastic around the battery tray does come apart easily if you need anymore access from the top. -

being 3 weeks overdue a service wouldn't make any difference, mine is 3 years overdue - i only change the oil regularly. there are 101 reasons why car is not starting - a stab in the dark would be coil pack breaking down but at

1996 Galaxy 2.0 Petrol And Vag-com
dipsomaniac replied to purct's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
vag-com will read v6 engine codes -
usual suspects are plugs, leads & coil pack(s). a faulty MAF usually causes a loss of power as opposed to a misfire. if you haven't got access to a fault code reader you need to start by removing the plugs/leads and inspecting them for any signs of a problem. When were the plugs and leads last changed? If you don't know I would change them anyway. i bought some leads last year from main dealer -
