  1. Update - just as Bournelinks said - pressing and holding slider in "resume" position does indeed increase the set speed! Thanks for the info. Now all I need is a new battery - original died this morning after less than 3 years.
  2. Bournelinks - will have a look on Monday - the car's had a rest this weekend! Dug the manual out and it says that holding the end button (Set speed) in should increase the CC speed, not decrease it which is what actually happens! Also, there is a "minus" sign on the stalk by the end, implying that keeping it pressed could decrease the set speed. Will look for a "plus" sign by the slider tomorrow and report back. Thanks for the help.
  3. Are you sure that the boot lock doesn't just need adjusting? The common thing these days is for boot light switches to be integrated with the lock assembly itself. Have you tried slamming the tailgate shut to see if that puts the lights out? If not, you'll just have to take the bulbs out until your bodyshop finishes your repair off properly.
  4. So has your ABS warning light gone off yet? If it has, it was probably dirt or other connection problem. It appears that most problems with ABS light are due to connectors within the wiring system - usually caused by dirt/water ingress at or near the sensors themselves. It is usually cheaper to get an auto electrician with ABS experience to investigate rather than a main dealer. Most should also have equipment to interrogate the onboard computer to read the fault codes. Good luck in getting it sorted.
  5. If it's already been registered, best way may be to ask to see the V5 and see whether or not car was declared as new at point of first UK registration - and if you can see the service book, see who carried out the pre-delivery inspection... In theory, by noting the VIN number and asking at a Ford dealer, they should be able to check and find out whether or not the car is an import.
  6. Well, tried out CC on way home on Friday. The end button is just that, it is not a rocker switch and just sets the CC speed - but I found that if set, when you hold the button in for a couple of seconds or longer, it starts to lower the CC speed. Must dig the manual out to see if there is a way of raising it.....
  7. This is a safety-related item! Isn't your life worth more than a few quid to get the fault diagnosed properly? Try an auto electrical or ABS specialist if concerned about the cost or competence of a main dealer, please!
  8. I'll investigate the up and down bits on the end switch on my way home tonight. It did appear that the end was just a single switch to me although I haven't read the manual for a few months.
  9. No Ford are wrong again. No guarantee that the light on the dash will illuminate to indicate that CC is engaged. With the CC switched on (middle position of slider), pressing the end of the stalk sets the CC speed. You cannot increase or decrease the set speed. The only way to alter it is to brake or accelerate to the new speed you want, then press the end of the stalk again. If you have used the CC and de-activated it, eg by braking, then sliding the switch on the stalk to the left (resume) does just that - the car will accelerate to the last speed that you set. What may be confusing Ford is that the CC fitted to some of their other vehicles (eg Granada) has a switch that can be used to lower or raise the set CC speed, but this does not hold true for the Galaxy.
  10. Yes - this got covered in a fairly recent thread. Operation of the indicator lamp is not guaranteed - it seems that it works on very recent models, and almost certainly not on any other - but there are exceptions!
  11. Is it the same price as ordinary Shell Diesel? We have a lack of Shell stations round here - the nearest one went to Texaco last year and I haven't found another since. I nearly tried BP's new "higher power" diesel until I looked at the price - 3p per litre more expensive that the normal stuff! That's nearly 15p per gallon, or a few quid per tankful....
  12. I'd be interested to know how you get on with DAB in the car - and where abouts in the UK you travel with respect to DAB reception. Ivor.
  13. ...or buy a bracket that you can screw into one of the blank switch covers on the console, then buy a new blank ready to swap over when you sell the car. I was amazed that the blanks only cost about
  14. Ah now...Galaxy doesn't seem to lend itself too well to a 2-tone paint job or to pinstriping/"coachline". I think it's something to do with the shape/angle of the front wing's leading edge.
  15. Eh? The beam benders stick onto the outside of the plastic cover that goes over all the front lights - you don't need to dismantle the units to fit them. On the TIS CD is an elaborate pattern that can be printed out if you wish to "black out" parts of the cover - the beam benders look the more sensible option.
  16. Caff - I think you will only have ABS; all the others were not available on diesels at this age (I have an X-reg TDI too). Also - I think the noises/judder you got from ABS were normal. The first time I felt ABS working was this January on ice when my car (at the time a Renault Scenic) just slid down a hill and gracefully bounced off a kerb (tyre sidewall made contact first) at about 5 mph! It was quite interesting feeling the ABS work when all 4 wheels came to an immediate stop which presumably also caused the ABS computer to register zero mph when the car was sliding.... I was lucky that nothing was coming the other way. Half an hour later someone else did the same as me, straight into a car coming the other way. As it was on a slope and neither could get traction, the road was then blocked. Someone phoned for an ambulance which promptly came haring down the road and crashed into the 2 cars that were still locked together! The police then finally made an appearance and closed the road.
  17. The wipers on my 1998 Scenic do this, those on my 2001 Galaxy don't. Nice to see that Ford is catching up - only 5 years behind the times. On the latest Galaxy/Alhambra, does the rear wiper also come on automatically when reverse gear is engaged and the front wipers are on?
  18. ...and on post-facelifts, there is no panel for the parking sensors, just the switch on the dashboard and bleeps that come from somewhere deep in the bowels of the car!
  19. My front screen heater switched itself on this morning - temp display said +2 degC, climate control on normal auto and I didn't touch any of its buttons when I got in, no frost on car as it is parked under a carport! I switched it off straight away and the screen did not mist up or frost up as I drove off. Obviously there is some sort of auto-activation built into the front screen heater, but quite what, I dread to think.
  20. I got a result last night - renewal from Pru circa
  21. If you don't want to buy a jetwash, or have any carbonfibre rods handy, try using a length of the springy stuff usually used to hang net curtains. It has many uses, including unblocking drain pipes and for threading additional wiring eg for aftermarket additional loudspeakers.
  22. Yes - funny weather today. Mine was all misted up on the inside too, don't know where the water comes from because I run with aircon on all the time to keep the inside dry! One thing to check is that you keep the inside of the windscreen clean - particularly on a new car, the emulsifiers(?) in the plastics outgas and deposit themselves on the glass, causing a film which encourages the mist, and makes a horrible smear when you try to clear it too!
  23. seem to remember that suggested idea is to regas at 2 years and refill (pump all gas out, dry and refill with gas and compressor oil) every 4 years, ie alternate between regas and "service" at 2 year intervals.
  24. (gulp) only
