Sounds like you may have a governor problem. Doesn't sound like fuel starvation to me. "underpowered" will depend upon what car you drove previously - what are you comparing the Gal to? Even 90bhp engine should enable you to keep up in traffic, but you will not win the green-light grand prix!

By fixing the leak to the rear screenwash, or the leak in the sunroof drain pipes. Lift carpet and have a good look. The leak should not be a standard-fit "item" and is not a compulsory optional extra either! Good luck (see other threads on this site; use search facility if necessary).

Following on from recent query on main dealer servicing (or not) under warranty, the following is taken from channel 4's 4car site: Reforms to the way cars are sold in Europe could lead to a fall in new car prices. The new rules to modify the so-called Block Exemption Act took effect on October 1st , and should lead to a lessening of price controls by the car manufacturers. Independent companies are now allowed to service vehicles and sell spare parts, and manufacturers can no longer dictate to dealers that they can only sell one brand of vehicle. Independent garages are now allowed access to technical information and data to enable them to work on vehicles under the terms of a warranty or for accident repair. Industry analysts expect that this will lead to greater competition in the aftersales and servicing markets, and to a fall in new car prices, due to increased competition and easier comparison of prices between companies. The Consumers' Association has welcomed the reforms. For more info follow the link: http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/blockcars.htm

They don't all do that, you have a problem. Do you mean that car won't go above 3500 easily (governor problem?) or that when you then change gear, acceleration falls off? (This should't happen because by then turbo will be spinning enthusiastically).

Yes, but not with a Galaxy. Problem cured itself for several years and then recurred with a vengeance resulting in the car getting sold!

Facelifted models: The standard Gal slot is NOT double-DIN but a custom size. If you want to fit double DIN you need the centre console trim that goes with the satnav system - apparently it's only a few quid and the switches transfer straight over, If yours is pre-facelift then I don't know the slot sizes, sorry. This means that most of the Ford OEM radio units are NOT double-DIN either, but a custom size just smaller than double-DIN.

Yes, and although the rules change today, as with most EC legislation, there is a time period allowed for compliance. So apparently nothing can be done to insist that the car manufacturers/dealers change their way of operating for about another year.

How Far Doy You Go In Yours...

By my recogning, that means that James only has to fill up twice per year. Not sure if that's a good thing but bet he doesn't mind the fuel price rise too much - it's better than having another 1percent put on the basic income tax band. ...and No I did not stop for the fuel protest a 8:30, by then I had already been at work for nearly an hour (did 2 cycle trips across the site where I work though, saves on fuel! and the pushbikes are provided for us to use free specially to cut down on fuel usage). -
SA I, you're right, Italian plastic does rust! We had a Fiat Uno some years ago now, and one of the inner wing under-bonnet splashguards disintegrated. It took about 1 hour to find the panel on the dealer's microfiche system (this is going back to late 1980's) because it was not clear whether it was a body panel, or an under-bonnet item and yes, it was made of plastic (at least the replacement one was).

The rules change today because of the end of the so-called "block exemption" legislation ... but the existing warranties have paperwork that will require the car to be serviced by authorised dealers, so I still say that for the savings involved on a purchase price of about

Is Focus Seat in Camberley too far from you? Update 11-10-2003: after reading about Porker's experiences, seems like they may best be avoided - certainly for the time being.

If you are inside the 3-year warranty stick to the proper dealers (Ford dealers for a Galaxy, Seat for Alhambra and VW for Sharan). What you will save will be greatly outweighed if you have a problem - and the savings will be marginal especially when considered in the light of spending about

I suspect that your alarm system is immobilising the power feed to the trip meter memory. As it started with the install, it is almost certainly related.

Alan - we've been through this before a few times. You can use a different oil spec if you are sticking to fixed servicing intervals (12 months max interval and 10,000 miles max interval) but you must use the "rare and expensive" stuff if you intend to let the on-board computer tell you when to change oil as it can allow up to 24 months or somewhere in the region of 30,000 miles between oil changes. Most of us agree that this is far too long to go between changes and that for peace of mind, oil should be changed at least once per year irrespective of mileage (and possibly more often if vehicle used only for short, stop-start journeys).

180 miles per week (on a busy week). If I'm feeling up to it, I'll even cycle to and from work instead. Bought a folding bike a couple of weeks ago which I now keep in the back; great for trips to the shops at lunchtime (but I can't haul the 80kg weekly Tesco shop back on the bike!). -
Chipping Galaxy Diesels

In line. 115PS engine was the first VW 1.9 engine to use the pumpe duse technology (individual unit injectors, pressure is built up using lobs on the camshaft hence importance of using correct oil). 130PS engine uses different head and other internals too. I suspect that the same holds true for the 150PS engine used in the Golf but not (yet) available in the UK on the Shalaxy trio. -
Manual or auto transmission? Heard some storied that with an auto, when you keep your foot on the brake pedal at rest after stopping, heat transfer through pads can warp discs - same for manual if you keep your foot on the brake pedal rather than using handbrake. (With auto, do the same but also put car into N). Other than that, puzzles me unless you drive in an unusual way!

yes, facelifted. Wll look at page 189 of handbook tonight. I also carry a reasonable tool kit in the car with me at almost all times but could not find something suitable to pull the wheel centres off, other than a screwdriver. And all 4 wheel centres on mine were already scracthed and slightly deformed from previous owner/servicing garage's attempts to remove them.

Red-line Weekly To Clean Your Head...

I saw that too and have been tempted, but my mechanical sympathy gets the better of me and I tend to stop at about 4000rpm (I use a motorway sliproad where I join the M3 to use the revs a bit, but only once a week). -
Not got the tool or any info on it in the manual :-(( Still got 4 scratched wheel centres too.

That Clock In The Dashboard
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Taliska's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Oh good, I'm not alone in liking the analogue clock! As for digital - try buying a cheapo car-accessory shop stick-on type, then velcro-ing it to the headlining bump just by the rear-view mirror - where ISTR the digital clock is located on the "original" Galaxy. -
I'd call that an ECU rather than a body control unit! Also - I'm not so much complaining about the size of the glove box, just pointing out that it's not as big as I'd expect. And I see that the glovebox on the new Scenic is MUCH bigger than on the old one so Renault obviously listened to some complaints!

Looks like bad design, as per wiring loom into passenger doors. Both sides are at the same "level" so wires flex rather than just "rotating on their axis" as doors/tailgate are opened and closed.
