  1. I'm interested if the price is right; in GU postal area on Surrey/Hants border.
  2. If you want more natural light, try the latest Espace with glass roof option. Shame that the car itself looks so ugly from front and back (IMHO).
  3. Sounds like the linkage is not set up correctly. Did you replace the lock yourself? If so, sounds like the door trim needs to come off and then the mechanism adjusted until the lock works - try this before you put the trim back on. If you don't want to risk doing this yourself, a body repair shop should sort it for less than a main dealer's workshop prices.
  4. I very much doubt it. Can you get it fixed under 3-year warranty?
  5. Can you clarify what you mean by "setting up the central locking system" - do you mean getting it to work after diconnecting battery to replace a lock or what? ...and childlock system - what do you mean? The levers that operate the locks, or the childproof lock-out for electric rear windows? Vehicle age?
  6. Also check that bonnet and tailgate are both properly closed and latched shut. I don't think the alarm will set unless all "opening bits" (excluding windows) are properly closed.
  7. Relay or wiring fault. Taurus - USA or German?
  8. Securing rearmost seats - that's why I made an exception and bought a Galaxy even though the spare is exposed. Same reason why Zafira also has underslung spare. Picasso has underslung spare too, even though it has just 5 seats whereas Scenic has spare under boot floor - including the new Scenic 5 seater. The grand scenic could be different - I'm waiting to have a look when it's launched (c April 4) and I think it may have no spare but a can of sealant instead.
  9. Loony in answer to previous question. Does actually look like one of the characters from South Park (?) on a more serious note.
  10. I recogn those are Galaxy 16" ones - the Mondeo ones do not have the plastic centre bits with the Ford logo, but instead have exposed bolt holes.
  11. Maybe reflection of mum-in-law at the assylum (reflection of barred fence visible too)? (sorry - couldn't resist it!)
  12. Think you've pressed it too long or too short. Once the word service appears, keep pressing for a few more seconds then release. Should be OK - I did mine a few weeks ago, I think the battery change in December confused it - and that's probably what did in my CD autochanger too (now mercifully restored to proper working order).
  13. I agree with Richmond - both for a way to try to release the cable and for his comments on the design of the system/proper bin needed under the load area. Usually I would avoid buying any car with the spare slung under the back rather than being accessed from inside the boot, but almost all MPVs seem to use the inferior storage method.
  14. If you've programmed the preset button with TA enabled, it may automatically select TA whenever you press it. Have you tried checking the display and making sure that the TA is off each time that you switch the "ignition" on? If there is no TA on display but the radio is still switching stations for the travel bulletins, then there is a fault.
  15. Correct, if ABS fitted it must work at time of MOT test. What is worse: If ABS is fitted and is not working, plod can do you for defective braking system. Not sure exactly what law/section of construction and use regs they use, but it has been done before - I remember seeing an article of a crash photographed by a red light camera, and a car which should have had ABS fitted (IIRC a Granada/scorpio) was photographed with tyre smoke from locked wheels. As it should have had ABS, plod included in the prosecution charges something about defective brakes, and the charge stuck. Be warned!
  16. Got it working again! Best feeling I've had all year! (well, almost). There is a small hole into which a paperclip can be inserted to release a jammed magazine. However - I disconnected the wiring multiplug at the changer end, waited 10 seconds or thereabouts, plugged it back in, and Bingo. The changer did have to come out to get to the plug though, but now that I know how the release clip works, if it does it again I may manage to sort it without having to take it out of the storage bin.
  17. May not ned to fix it for MOT - if car is not driven above 15mph! (depends on how fast it needs to be driven on rollers for the brake test. Anyone know?)
  18. Can we elaborate? Light usually comes on for about 3 seconds for self-check mode. ABS doesn't work below about 15mph, so once you exceed this speed the control unit is looking for certain signals, eg speed of vehicle (presumed OK as the light stays off below 15mph) and input from wheel sensors (hence suggestion that one or more is missing). Anything else the control unit may be looking for? Throttle position? Steering wheel angle?
  19. (breathes sign of relief) thank goodness you have managed to get it all back together.
  20. Out of warranty by 4 weeks! Prefer to tackle this myself if it's going to be simple rather than loose the car for a whole day to be told "we need to order the parts in" or "we need to wait for the auto electrician to call in"!!! Tomorrow, time and weather permitting, during my lunch hour I'll pull the head unit out and unplug the CD changer cable, wait a while then re-plug it in. Currently the head unit thinks that it has a working changer connected, it will display CD-1 through to CD-6, with track time of 0:00. Most odd......
  21. Did it come on 3 times by any chance ;)
  22. It's empty at the moment and I cannot see a hole into which an unbent paperclip can be inserted to open it. From what Alarm man says, it needs to come out of the car and be opened up. Assuming that it's held in by just the 2 visible fixing bolts inside the rear rhs panel, this is no problem as I've previously dismantled and repaired domestic hifi cassette deck mechanisms - so long as the fault is simple and NOT electronically based!
  23. PCV = positive crankcase ventilation valve/system
  24. Had a read of the service schedule whilst digging around in the vehicle documentation trying (unsuccessfully) to find out how to unjam a CD autochanger that won't release, and checked the 30,000 mile service schedule. It appears that on a Gal TDI, the only differences between major 30,000 mile services and minor (other 10,000 mile intervals) is to change the fuel filter and clean the PCV.
  25. (sigh) went to put a CD into standard-fit 6-disc multichanger today - first time I've tried to use the thing in months as I'm basically a "tape" person, and the cartridge won't eject when the orange button is pressed. If I press the CD button on the radio-cassette (5000 unit), CD-1 appears on the display rather than an error message. Anyone got any tips whilst I search out my op manual and radio release keys? TIA Ivor Update: dug out manual and there's nothing about how to remove a malfunctioning magazine. As no error code shows, it appears that the head unit recognises the changer, so how do I remove the magazine? I used the "search" function on the site but it didn't produce anything that helps.
