  1. ..and that just from Lyneham to Milton Keynes! Oct 2004 - did our place to EuroDisney and back on one tank of diesel, stopping to pick up my parents in Guildford on the way. It's basically all motorway or dual carriageway in France to get from Calais to EuroDisney, although we actually stayed 2 stops short of the park and took the train in (cheap and no problem with parking; hotel was walking distance from the station)
  2. You will if Maz chooses a sword to your gun for the duel !
  3. Check that the cooling fans are working; could be the voltage stabiliser is faulty so that the gauge moves but the actual water temperature is not increasing. You will need a thermometer on the rad/top hose to confirm this though
  4. I don't think I am brave enough to try that. I just put up with nasty corroded alloys. Spoke to a place last week in Byfleet - about 3 days to do all 5 alloys at around
  5. Methinks the cutest cat is not far from where I am sitting:
  6. Been bucketing down all day here again today. Skateboard warning: Guy at work went skateboarding last week-end; freak accident, fell off and banged his head on the concrete surface. Knocked unconscious, he is still in a coma and was operated on to have a blood clot in the brain removed. Worrying times
  7. Try http://www.hardyengineering.co.uk/ There also used to be a place in Guildford - cannot think of their name at the moment, think it was something like Willow Engineering
  8. I seem to remember a thing about having to cut something away to get it to fit. Have you tried a Forum search?
  9. I've reached 40 (and 45) and I can tell you that I have still to get truly excited ^_^
  10. Both sets of genuine Ford ones on my car failed within 20,000 miles each set, hence I tried the Factors for the third set - and these are not yet knocking but just creaking. There seems huge variability in the quality of the Ford ones, some get over 100,000 miles with no problems whereas others of us don't even get to 20,000 miles without the dreaded knocking
  11. Next step.... For sale, one Galaxy.......
  12. Someone please explain "more than accurate" to me :18:
  13. You can get therapy treatment for insomnia, been there, done that (sadly). I can't fall asleep in the day, take a nap in a chair etc. Sounds like you just need a break, Maz. I wish you well
  14. Have you tried borrowing the keypad from another unit and trying that? I presume that you have cleaned all the contacts in the head unit and your removable bit
  15. Have we still to establish if there are any divorce lawyers on this site? How can I trade in wife mk I for a mk II that can cook?
  16. ROFL !!! maz - hope your luck changes soon, and I hope mine does too
  17. On the Gal, the mileage stays on even with the engine off, so no problem there. The signal to drive the speedo and hence increase the mileage is not getting through to the instrument panel. 2 usual causes: there will be a transducer on the gearbox that sends a signal - maybe this has stopped working (I had this fault on my old Rover 820) or else there is a break in the wiring somewhere. There are other possible reasons but these are the 2 most common; to check if the transducer is working it may be easier to get a garage to swap a new one in, on the understanding that if it does not solve the problem they will not charge for the part, just the labour for swapping/unswapping.
  18. No such issues with Firefox ;-)
  19. Yes the Halfords kit is quite acceptable, it's what I used about 3 years ago. Rather than blacked bits, it contains 2 beam benders and a huge leaflet that tells you where to cut them and where to apply them - which is sometimes significantly different on the offside and nearside lamps. I have heard it mentioned in the past that the French Police do stop and fine you if you do not have anything fitted to adapt the headlamps, even if it is daylight and you have no intention of driving at night. Be warned, be prepared! Incidentally, congratulations for resurrecting a thread, 3 1/2 years after the last post !
  20. Yes - looking at the price list, you have to pay extra to get opening rear windows, so if the mechanism wasn't fitted when the car was being built, they don't open!
  21. Sounds like flat battery to me. Whether or not it is due to shorting something out with water is hard to say
  22. Agreed - due to the special nature of the PD engine and the oil properties required, I would never risk adding anything to the oil or the fuel
  23. Probably the motor/solenoid that operates the water bleed valve somewhere around the heater matrix
  24. IIRC traction control was only available on the VR6
  25. Maz, if I had the money I'd buy it and then give it back to you. I wish you all the best after your recent (ongoing) problems. Slightly different note: Guy at work has just put up for sale his 1994 BMW520. Been well looked after;
