  1. There isn't one (well, not on my Jan 2001 Ghia anyway)
  2. When you re-start, does it start properly and run without probems? Is it just the first attempt to fire up that causes problems?
  3. You could try phoning VW UK and asking them from the chassis number. If you know what to look for, you could try opening the bonnet and following the brake lines from the servo/master cylinder to see if you can identify the ABS pump/accumulator unit. If it's there, then you have ABS, if it's not there then you don't have ABS.
  4. 2001 spec 1.9TDI engine uses VW spec 505.01 oil (or Ford SD). Don't use 506.01 or Castrol SLX II. Use VW-branded or SEAT-branded 505.01 spec oil from their Parts Counter, or buy from Castrol if you can find a specialist retailer who stocks Castrol 505.01 - yes it is actually called "505.01" (Catrol make the oil for VW), or use Millers 505.01 spec oil if you intend to buy it yourself from eg a local car accessory shop or motor factors.
  5. Was your Gal originally registered in the UK? If so, your auto electrician should be able to get the relevant info from a Ford dealer if he has your original UK registration number or chassis number. There are a number of different options depending on which engine you have, and year of manufacture.
  6. Made by AutoEuropa IIRC, which was originally a joint venture between Ford and VW, until Ford wanted out and sold VW their share. Now owned entirely by VW, there is still an agreement for VW to build the Galaxy there for "a few months more", hence Ford are developing their own replacement vehicle which is likely to be made at a Ford factory in Belgium.
  7. Yes, linked to heated rear screen and IIRC the heating elements or pad is on the rear of the glass unit and not part of the mirror itself. Basic check would be to take the mirror housing cover off (I have a car-port post that does the job just fine if you hit it in just the right place) then stick a multi-meter across the terminals. Check for voltage when rear screen on and off, and also check resistance of the heater.
  8. Must be a VW quirk - don't forget that the Galaxy is a VW in drag (VW designed and built)
  9. You won't get a laptop in the dash cubby-holes. IIRC (I don't mave multimedia in my Galaxy) you must use headphones to listen to the DVD/video, there is no aux input to the radio-CD unit but if you have the factory-fit satnav it is possible to connect the multimedia output to it, as the satnav unit has an aux input. You need special cables and adapters though. Try a search for posts by Jakey247; someone else posted this: With a lot of advice from the DVD King jakey247 (!) I have managed to achieve both my goals, get DVD output from the 10 speakers and get DVD picture in the SatNav screen. In summary here is what I did: 1. Buy a special unit that converts the DVD analogue signal into a form suitable for the SatNav unit. This is distributed by www.soundlinks.co.uk, they have a list of retailers on their website. Part no. is VAG02VID, I bought is for
  10. Definitely clean it up before it causes trouble, even if it may not be directly responsible for your present rough running.
  11. Check your brake light switch(es) are working correctly.
  12. Unfortunately I cannot get I 15 4 IVOR or 11541 VOR  Not that I'd want to. And DVLA don't have any plates ending in....1 VOR which is discrimination against the Welsh!
  13. Wrong exhaust can definitely cause loss of power due to too much restriction. 1 rather than 2 tailpipes won't make any difference - some aftermarket systems are like that.
  14. I've never been "with it" as far as music goes; still prefer classical stuff and Matt Monroe, Roger Whittaker, Andy Williams, Pavarotti, Lesley Garrett - she drives a Galaxy too! Beverley Craven is about as modern as I get.
  15. Who is Dido and is he/she missing something (L)? Now if someone had left something by Mozart in there.......
  16. What do you mean by broken? Cracked or fallen off? Think you could have a hard time because the dealer could say that your car was hit whilst parked, so it's not a fault and you'll have to pay. Good luck.
  17. The newer cars are supposed to be quieter with the "improvements" made to the design over the past few years.... :)
  18. ...check the switches on the brake pedal arm under the dash too.
  19. Make sure that you open the bonnet for a little while first, to "fool" the computer into thinking that the engine has been worked on, otherwise the reset trick may not work.
  20. Don't panic, it is an extra heater designed to help speed up the heating of the cabin. Don't take the car anywhere near a dealer unless you really have to!
  21. ..and check that auto transmission is OK and that you get a warranty that covers it as well as the aircon, MAF sensor, multi-media system etc. Check that tyres have plenty of tread on them - try to negotiate something if they are badly worn, and check that they are worn evently across the tread. Almost forgot - check no noises from front suspension over bumps (worn anti-rollbar drop-links).
  22. Some of us can, twice over now!
  23. If you already have roof rails, then the bars are dead easy to fit, and the genuine Ford ones are amongst the cheapest (but obviously not interchanegable if you change vehicles at a later date). IIRC the Ford bars are around
