  1. Hello Iain, hope you are enjoying life in those northern isles. The HRW should be covered by warranty - after all, you can claim that you hardly ever use it because of the aircon. Get the dealer to check the car thoroughly (if that is possible!) and report any faults etc.
  2. Doubt that it's the rad cooling fans, more likely it's the auxilliary electric water pump that runs for about 5 minutes - usually after you switch the engine off.
  3. The "boot" release is electric - there is no mechanical link between the handle and the lock. Could be something as simple as the wire falling off the lock. If you are feeling brave, you could start by stripping the interior trim off the tailgate, but if the car is under warranty, may be better to let the dealer fix it.
  4. First, have the transmission fluid level checked.
  5. You have a problem with your Galaxy, without a doubt. Should be able to manage an incline with all passengers on board (7 in the car)
  6. mine doesn't - but it's not a Ghia ;) Original post now corrected to add the missing word Oops
  7. Tesco Extra stores are still doing a 150W inverter for
  8. Proper dual aircon has vents in the roof above the rear seats and a separate rear evaporator. You just have the standard aircon which comes with a rear auxilliary heater for those cold winter days. The fan in it just blows the air around the cabin in the summer.
  9. Once you have removed the sump, looking into the engine from below you will see the crankshaft. It is held in place by the bearing caps. Take the one off the middle bearing and you will then see the "lower" part of the bearing, or "half shell". If you look at it under a magnifying glass or microscope, you may notice unusual wear, damage etc.
  10. DVLA site should have details of all recalls, as does the "Honest John" website.
  11. I called in at my local branch of Just Tyres 2 weeks ago, and said that I was just looking around in readiness to buy next month. They matched the internet price just to secure my business that day; very impressed. Came away with 2 new Avons at
  12. Most unofficial imports have the multi-function steering wheel. Cruise control buttons and radio buttons are on this type of wheel. All post-facelifted Galaxy Ghias have cruise control; the usual controls are on the end of the indicator stalk - a slide switch to turn on/off and a push-button on the end of the stalk - later models have a rocker switch on the end of the stalk, the difference being in how you increase or decrease speed once cruise has been set. Also note: On most Ghias, the cruise warning light on the dashboard does not work :(
  13. Rumour has it that the Fraud dealer is right for once. Options are basically to try a scrappies. Not sure if the VW door cards have the same design of speaker grille, in which case a replacement will probably be available from them.
  14. A "good" tyre place will take the tyre/wheel off and stick it in a water bath, pump it right up and look for the tell-tale sign of bubbles if the tyre is not seating correctly on the rim.
  15. The third year of warranty is dealer-funded/supported. The car will need to have been maintained by a "proper" dealer if you wish to claim anything in the third year of cover (up to 60,000 miles).
  16. Alloys often go porous with age. You can fit a tube to a tubeless tyre but it is not recommended (and I am not sure if it is legal). If the valve has been replaced, presumably the tyre has been re-seated on the rim so chances are that there is a good seal. Beginning to sound like you have a porous alloy; how fast does it loose air?
  17. 595 each or for a set of 4 (I wonder)? They look great but next upgrade should be lowered springs/dampers I fear.
  18. Without wishing to state the obvious, I'll state the obvious - you have a problem with the radio system. Disconnect the amplifier and check the radio speaker outputs. If in doubt, go to a car audio specialist for advice and assistance. Do not reconnect the audio fuse until you have investigated, you do not want to find that it goes up in smoke whilst you are driving along.
  19. The frame for mine is strong enough that it can act as a shelf  ...and it stows away under the seats when I don't need it
  20. I don't have VAG-com but I'm in GU16 - hooray, another local ! Have you tried the Car Care centre in Wilton Road industrial estate ?
  21. Stop it - you're making me jealous ! Still trying to save up for that grille (not the one on the car above; the Wolf one - and give my regards to Walter if you ever speak to him in person).
  22. Net curtain wire is also useful for threading speaker wire through rooflinings, behind interior trim etc; always keep a spare length in your toolbox
  23. Tonneau is clearly indicated as an option in the brochure. Fitting after buying the car is not cheap and not that simple; both rear side trim panels have to be removed. Also try doing a search for my home-made version (use a rug that matches your interior trim, some lengths of wood and some nuts/bolts/washers; under
  24. Have you got side airbags in your front seats?
  25. If you didn't disconnect the battery before doing the change, probably need a quick "vag-com" to reset the system.
