On my Galaxy 2.8 Si mk1 (S reg) the airbag warning light does not show up on the dash display when you start the car. All of the other lights show then go out as normal but the airbag one never does. Does this mean it is not working, if so where do I begin to find out why. I've checked the fuses but all are ok, then after that I'm not sure. Is it safe to be removing it from the steering wheel to investigate?

If there is a failure in the airbag/SRS system the airbag light would be lit permantly with ign on. The light should come on for a few seconds when ign is turned on, then if all is ok extinguish. Chances are that the bulb has blown (can't remember if it is a bulb or led). The light must work for it to pass MOT.

You should be able to remove cluster without removing steering wheel, I did it a few times on my old mk1. lower steering wheel and pull out as far as it'll go, Undo 2 screws at the top of cluster (you'll need a short screwdriver) and it should ease forward enough for you to unclip the 2 connectors, then ease it sideways out. I cant remember for sure but you may have to remove the white plastic cover from the back of the cluster to get at the bulbs. the bulb should be one of these

Available at halfrauds, charlie browns etc.

Great thanks for that, bulb had entered my mind. I'll have a check of that. Abit odd cos it sailed through the MOT in Sept and the light has never worked in my owning of it.......?

The airbag system is NOT part of the MOT test, however the ABS warning light is tested for correct sequence when switching on ignition.

Chris is quite right http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif, I think I got myself confused with ABS, old age creeping up I guesshttp://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif.

Cheers Chris.

The other warning lights, such as airbag, SRS, power steering, etc., are being added to the test this year. They are advisory items from 1st January 2012, and will be MOT failures from 1st April 2012.

it's not unknown for sellers to remove or intentionally blow warning bulbs to mask indication of a system defect.

Yeah thats right, 'where there's a problem...remove the bulb'. When I check the bulb I'm wondering whether there's goin to be one there or not.....

Hi if i were you i would take out the clocks and check the bulb in there, it could be a blown bulb or someone could have removed it as it has an airbag fault, this does come into the mot now, since jan 1st 2012.....

OK, so I've finally got round to checking that airbag light and after removing the black plastic display cover in the center of the dash display, to reveal the LED bulbs, I found someone had cut a neatly fitting piece of foam and put it over the airbag bulb. And guess what.....the bulb stays lit, so now I have an airbag problem on my hands. Any help on this one would be welcomed. Think I've read about replacing the clutch & brake pedal switches, would this be correct.... Then what after that??? Edited by glenn

Does the steering sometimes make a slight clicking sound as you turn it, it did on my Chrysler when I had the same problem, was fixed under recall notice.
