  1. :) I have no useful contribution to make to this arguement......... So instead, I will give you my rendition of "Danny Boy".... :) a 1,a 2,a 1,2,3..... O Danny Boy, the pumps, the pumps are poororing........ from tank to tank, the biodiesel pongs...... :)
  2. Well, well...interesting..... back in 2002, my SEAT dealer was convinced it was my evaporator, not on the evidence of dye- after 3 lots, still no leak apparent  ....but "in their experience, evaporator failaure was very common." How do they fail? I asked. "Pinprick holes and split welds." So after a "don't waste our time" letter from SEAT UK, I went out and bought a new evaporator from my Delphi supplier at
  3. I've been wrong before but.....I think Microsoft has lost the plot. Everytime they upgrade OS's or Developer tools they insist on reinventing the wheel (why?) - and expect everyone to blindly follow. I reckon BG stepping down will coincide with Microsoft imploding into a black hole (and about time too!) I've tried to switch from using VB6 (with c++) to VB 2005, but the documentation.... its just MS gobbledygook! No wonder they're giving their developer tools away for free nowadays, I would pay for this carp. This time I refuse to relearn everything from scratch....again. ....remember the advertising campaign for Windows 98? "The hour glass is a thing of the past...." One of a zillion lies put out each year by Microsoft. ....and yesterday my Sony Vaio laptop suddenly proclaimed (after a year) that I "may be a victim of software counterfeiting" ....WHAT THE ????
  4. Yes hold the temperature sensor in your hand.......Who knows where it is? I think its somewhere near the dryer behind the bumper...... And why dont you short out the low temperature switch to at least eliminate that as the culprit.
  5. except perhaps a mysterious pool of blood......
  6. don't you just love girls who speak with a french accent....
  7. I think thermostat housing leaks are quite common on a lot of VW engines. It leaked on my golf - corrosion on the aluminium face where the housing sits. You don't see because it only leaks under pressure and when the engine is hot. When it leaks the coolant is hot and evaporates readily. The only visible clue is the white patch left behind......
  8. The clue is in the detail....
  9. Correct..... But a good result
  10. Nooo!.....all he needs is a new regulator! Just remove the rear black cover and two screws later it pops out..... IIRC Theres a place near Wakefield that does mail order regulators for
  11. Put it the right way up (metal grid at the top) and try turning it 90 deg. If it still don't fit go back and ask for one that does.
  12. I'll see your bump and raise you one......
  13. Is this one of those cars that the police leave lying about in wait....
  14. I think we are now definitely entering another dimension........the area 51 kind.......
  15. Don't be a skinflint.......buy a new battery!
  16. the fine (ish) grill in front of the cold air intake located in the upper left hand corner of the main radiator grill near the bonnet release. B) Snow is not usually a problem in the UK in July.......
  17. Unless you get the engine with all the ancillaries attached - vacuum pipes - ecu, wiring - even some of the cooling components, I think you may have a difficult time making it work. The 1Z engine is the earlier Euro II predessor to the Euro III AHU engine which has revised turbo gear, emission control and of course a new ECU. Of course Passat ancillaries are quite likely to be different to Shalaxy ancillaries....I even suspect the mountings and gearbox may have been revised in the 1998 model change from 1Z to AHU engines. The AFN engine has a totally diferent turbo and vacuum circuit, different ECU no doubt and IIRC has a upgraded cooling system with built in oil cooler. So you may require some re-engineering skill...but it may be possible....
  18. 1. Vacuum circuit - i.e. pipes and joints - you have a leak. 2. MAF
  19. In the diesel versions, its very dangerous to drive in the wet without the undertray as the steering pump pulley gets sprayed by the offside wheel and slips readily giving total loss of assistance - very scary when it happens (usually on a bend or going round a roundabout). They have not only not serviced your car correctly, but also put your life at risk! p.s. I hope this reply isn't too late ....or that it don't rain tonight...
  20. I see a tall dark handsome stranger......but no picture..... I have not yet reached the status of clairvoyant member.....
  21. You have no sympathy from me .....taking a car in for service ......this is what you get..... Take it back and give em both barrels!
  22. :( What the hell is a "diesel" sensor? Did you redrain your fuel filter? You may have a lot of water in your fuel tank and water definitely does make a diesel hiccupp badly. You havent inadvertantly mixed petrol with your diesel? If it only started when you fitted a new MAF - then it must be the new MAF. Yes I know its the second one, but did you get it from a dealer? - Is it the correct one? IMO a lot of the cheap ebay MAFS are just cleaned or refitted with replacement sensors maybe not the genuine or correct ones. One last thing, its always a good thing to disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes after a MAF change - it dumps all the old MAF settings that way and retrains. Don't forget your radio code before you disconnect the battery though!
  23. Yes if its hot outside, it can get cooler because it cools already cool cabin air. The downside is no fresh air - so after 30 mins you pass out due to lack of oxygen.... .....thats why the cc will automatically cancel recirc mode after 20 mins
  24. Just double checked my information - I am wrong! nothing new there then..... Single cc - 950g Dual cc - 1350g - single circuit!!! So your refill was done correctly! The pressure switch is a 3 way affair - so you have only one to measure high/low pressure. or it could be a problem with the recirc flap or cooling fan or thermo switch. Sorry!
