Antifreeze Which Is Right?
seatkid replied to Vanbursta's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
All VAG engines (i.e. all the diesels, the petrol V6 ones as well as all VW/SEAT variants) require to be filled with antifreeze to VW spec G12 plus. (G12+). Earlier models - 98 were filled with G11 which is green, G12+ is a pale pinkish colour when diluted. DO NOT FILL WITH THE OLD SPEC G12 (i.e. look for the plus) or any other brand of antifreeze as the combination will chemically form a gel that blocks radiators etc. and is almost impossible to remove. AFAIK G12+ is only available from dealers. If buying from Fords, make sure the antifreeze is suitable for your model of galaxy as Fords probably use an entirely different antifreeze for their range of engines. (2, 2.3L) The V6 petrol engine is made by VW (VAG). -

Door Noise On Closure

Before diving into the door and stripping it, just check the door strap is secure. I had a similar problem - it was the bolts on the strap (car side) which had become loose... -

:D How exactly does a stone pass through a condensor without damaging it? or did it bounce up , roll up the full length of the engine tray, and presumably using the gravitational pull of the moon, leap up in front of the engine block and do a Sylvester Stallone through the fan? -
premature chain failure is mainly a VR6 habit...... chains are normally for life......

IIRC TESCO value vegetable oil will not do..... :D The Ford VTX box requires a special oil made only for/by Ford.....standard gearbox oils cause rapid and expensive failure.....

On 4th May my Easyjet return flight from Warsaw to London was cancelled leaving me and my wife stranded at the airport at 11pm. After some confusion and no information whatsoever, Easyjet coached us off to a nearby hotel for the night. I asked about telephone calls but the hotel refused saying any phone calls would be at my expense. Next day we were hurriedly coached back at 8am for a 4 and a half hour stay at Warsaw Etudia - a tiny airport with no facilities and then had to do battle with a load of Germans who flooded the terminal and totally ignored queueing protocol. :( I almost started WWIII! :D On the flight home the pilot gave us a story that the previous nights inbound flight was diverted to Amsterdam due to a disruptive passenger and there was not enough flying hours left to continue to Warsaw. I wont tell what stress I was under, but next day I had a non refundable flight to Taiwan I had to catch.... Any way I contacted Easyjet for a written explanation and after 2 attempts from them I got a letter explaining that the flight was cancelled due to "technical reasons". Non specific explanation.....maybe the pilots story was just a cock and bull story to stop people claiming compensation....... So I tried to email them, but everytime I tried, the Easyjet feedback form just ignored me (FF and IE6) - funny it worked before - I concluded that either the flight number or keywords such as "cancelled" or "compensation" stopped the feedback form working...... So I wrote asking about compensation under European regulations.......4 weeks later no reply......I wrote a second time, giving them a deadline and sent it recorded/signed for delivery.....2 weeks later no reply. Should I submit a claim in the small claims court? Or am I wasting my time - it will cost

Hell of a weight to have on the sump. Won't do the sump gasket any good. And IIRC the sump is not flat and horizontal underneath so there is danger of damage and what if the engine slips forwards or backwards? -
Electrics Not Working Help Needed Plz
seatkid replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You do indeed seem to have a duff ignition switch. 12 volts goes in on the red and red/yellow and should leave on the yellow/black and black wires when turned to pos 2 (normal run pos)...... check the red wire has permanent 12v as this is the source for the yell/black feed.... -

Electrics Not Working Help Needed Plz
seatkid replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
What is the month/year? Does your Galaxy have standard headlights or HID? Chances are its the large 110A fuse F106 in the Battery Junction Box which is located in the engine bay. If its blown, take care when replacing, its possible you have a short in the loom somewhere! Try switching off all electrical stuff and use a small fuse (or 15A fuse wire) and turn on the ignition - check that it doesnt just blow again! -
Hissing Brake Pedal
seatkid replied to Mr Poisson's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well done that man! It would seem that hissing/leaking brake servos are quite a common symptom on the Shalaxy, I know mine certainly is less than perfect. I have never heard of the same problem on other cars  , why does the Shalaxy have to have such poor quality parts in areas that are so difficult/expensive? ;) Any chance of a pic of the offending bit (seal) and your opinion as to why it split? This is a safety critical item and really ought not to fail..... -

Alhambra Se V Galaxy Ghia
seatkid replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
No idea about Ghia vs the rest of the world, but IMO The most important "must have" options on a TDi are.... HEATED SEATS CRUISE CONTROL The most useless "waste of time and money" options are.... ROTATING SEATS HEADLAMP WASHERS ELECTRIC SUNROOF FLIP UP TABLE TRAYS HEATED WASHER JETS The nicest to have "if you can afford it" options are..... WORKING AIR CONDITIONING  REAL LEATHER STEERING WHEEL RADIO REMOTE CONTROL The most "sounds useful - but aren't really" options are...... HEATED FRONT WINDOW The "only useful in a blue moon" options are FRONT FOG LIGHTS And finally the "you might end up regretting you chose this" options AUTOMATIC GEARBOX SUPER SLINKY ULTRA LOW PROFILE RUBBER BAND SPORTS WHEELS p.s. I have all of them bar the last two..... ;) p.p.s. For the "why doesn't every car have one by now?" category I nominate a radio with USB or SD input for MP3 with decent LW/MW reception and GPS ...... ;) -
Bit of both.....no need to open the bleed nipple (and most garages don't), but if you saw the crap and the state of the fluid in the caliper, I'm sure you'd agree you don't really want to push that stuff back into the system, plus an enthusatic pushback does result in weak seals flipping on occasion. Personally though, I wouldn't clamp the hose....in my opinion this is likely to damage an old hose. You still have to bleed the brakes anyway so just open the nipple and allow the fluid out (into a container) during push back.

Mot Fail, Metered Smoke
seatkid replied to oggie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Does it have a tuning box fitted or has it been remapped for higher power? If so, these are to blame. If not, try the Italian tune up method which everyone should try before taking an MOT (watch out for old cambelts though!) Make sure you use good quality ULSD diesel too.
