  1. Ata girl MO4! I don't think 3.5bullet ment anything personal, just voicing his opinion. Unfortunately caught you when you're (understandbly) stressed. Hope your mum gets well soon. Think positive.
  2. It takes about 10 mins max to repair a flat and costs around
  3. :D What is going on? 89.9ppl ? :D in Sep 2006? Have we all been duped?
  4. I believe MO4 has... :D probably made by the same people that make Gladiator Gin As for Fortuna, Nokian (do these come with free call credit?) , Hiroshima or Nagasaki tyres....I still find it incredible people are so obsessed with saving a few quid on the most important bit of your car. I'm setting my firewall to "extra thick asbestos" setting and retiring to a safe distance now....
  5. "Celeron" is a low end version of a "Pentium" (could be II,III or IV) - cut down (or crippled even) on [computing] power and targeted at the "cheap" end. And Pentium M or Celeron M are "mobile" versions of their non-M cousins with laptop/notebook tweaks (low power [W], special standby features, packaging) But the confusion comes in as "Pentium M" can cover a whole range of CPU chips which are radically different. Intel use names purely for marketing purposes nowadays , and you need to look at the processor type numbering to home in on the actual design/stepping etc. There is no such thing as an intel centrino duo processor. The centrino bit refers to a mobile (notebook) chipset that supports integral wireless networking. The duo refers to the core 2 duo processor architecture recently launched by Intel - which ironically has its roots in Pentium III architecture rather than Pentium IV architecture [Netburst] which is now widely acknowledged as a dead end street. All in all - [intel] marketing has completely confused the consumer, made worse by false or misleading labelling by some computer manufacturers. And don't believe the Intel ads, a Centrino based laptop cannot be used as a hoverboard..... P.S. i was of course joking about the i4004, we all know that the i8080A is the most powerful cpu around... :D
  6. Try your flexible friend or even the missus.. :D You can find out where it is by simply by SEARCHING THE FORUM POSTS
  7. Try reading this thread
  8. It don't work that way, there are hundreds of processor types and variants (please dont confuse them with chipsets which is a totally different thing - or dozens of things) Processors come in many varieties, depending on base architecture, packaging, speed, power, and markets - e.g. desktops, notebooks,PDAs, servers to name but a few. All you need to know is the most powerful processor to date is the i4004... :D
  9. Its the way its wired. I think the a/c interlock takes the feed off the last resistor which is speed 1. When you replace the faulty resistor pack, the a/c should work.
  10. RS Components and Farnell do small packs of epoxy resin and a variety of viscosities. But, be warned! Its very messy and a little toxic too...Epoxy is the only sure way to ensure sealant runs deep into the cracks - it will also run anywhere that hasnt been masked and sealed off properly! 24 hours to cure at room temperature...and you need a vacuum chamber to ensure the resin is pulled in all the way... The problem with cracks is that moisture and dirt will likely be deeply ingrained. You will need to clean the pack - ideally in an ultrasonic solvent tank, or use an aerosol brake cleaner, making sure to blow out the cracks. Then allow a couple of hours to dry. You will then need to bake the component in a low temperature oven - maybe 70 deg C to ensure the solvent etc dries out thoroughly - this is important. You could use electrical/electronic grade silcone sealant (expensive) - not shower sealant as this contains vinegar or araldite, though the adhesion properties of modern araldite is very poor and IMO will not seal in a satisfactory manner. To use epoxy resin you would need to improvise some masking or mould to stop the epoxy running elsewhere. In the end theres no guarantee that the coil pack would be any good.
  11. I had this once. It was the seatbelt clasp rattling against a hard surface. Think it was the rear passenger one. There are clips provided to stow the belt in a rattle free position....
  12. The problem with cars is the 12v can vary from 7v - 16v and have spikes/surges up to 60v so your power supply would need to be buck/boost and surge protected. In practice, using laptop parts with a in-car charger would be the most cost effective and space efficient. Remember most modern PC's use 300+W of power. Think about the heat and draining your battery...... Illegal, dangerous and impractical. Would you want to stare at your mouse cursor while using a mouse pad or other device while driving at 70mph down the M1? :) For all the hassle, just buy a cheap laptop or two and give em to your passengers to view DVDs etc Portable DVD players are dirt cheap.....
  13. How much do you think I'll get? :)
  14. I suspect you'd struggle even with a manual... :)
  15. Either a poltergeist :D or a duff battery I would guess...... :)
  16. Great! :16: 1. Can you tell me the winner of 3:30 at Haydock tomorrow? 2. Is my wife going to divorce me? 3. Will kipper ties come back into fashion?
  17. :16: No!...I insist you go out now....regardless of weather.... and do the job! (As punishment for posting stuff about a Micra on this forum)
  18. I'm not voting! :16: Most polls are knee jerk and badly thought out. Take for instance the "Have you had problems with your aircon?" poll. Predictably in the early days a lot vote "No problem" only to have their aircon go awol the following month. The problem is that there you can't change your vote and the result flatters Fords and VW when they should be thoroughly castigated. My "complaint suggestion post" came about after seeing yet another "3 word story" thread. :D Why has our Forum sunk to the lows of all the other wierdo car forums? :16: On some days when I click "view new posts" I have problem seeing any questions/discusion about Galaxy's for the string of "funny" jokes - some of which I must say are just .....well I must stop there other I will promoted to the rank of "boring old git who rants a lot" :D It did strike me though that quite a few newbies looking for genuine help are being confused by the scope of the replies (e.g. guesses) and would naturally look at the "member status" which is based on number of posts and assume, for instance, MO4 is technical wizard with Galaxy electrics ( :16: no offence, MO4, thats just an example.....I know you are "man" enough to take the joke......however there is a small number of members who not only do not have a sense of humour but give dubious technical advice... No, its not a good idea to give any members special status. And that includes the present scheme.
  19. hey! Member nr.2? Administrator? Posts only 20? Where u been? Try Vwspares and look under vw sharan or seat alhambra.
  20. Don't forget that visible smoke means a lot more soot is going into the oil, reducing its service life considerably.
  21. If you can see it, it definitely will be enough! The lead(s) is shot. Once a bad lead - always a bad lead Damp in leads are just the thing that make the engine run like a dog. The insulation loses its properties and they not only arc to metalwork and adjacent leads but can also just "leak" the spark away silently both to metalwork, adjacent leads and dirty plastic trays. Lift the leads clear of any metalwork/clips/trays to isolate the culprit, and there may be two.... The only sure way - in a dry garage, strip the leads one by one and dry them thoroughly, use a hair dryer, you can try WD40 (but it never ever works for me). Check the leads with a meter. Examine the leads for damage/cracking etc. You may also have water filled up in the spark plug recess.
  22. Nope.....its definitely silver on my B&W monitor....and all the cars in my cul-de-sac are silver........ :P :P :P
  23. I think its silver as most cars are silver.....
  24. Let me rephrase...... Water does not mix well with fuel or electricity....I wonder if we should make this a sticky?...... :P If you block the bypass surgery, you will likely blow a pipe or stress the water pump as it is normally the only route for the water to go when the engine is cold. PPS... Allowing a modern petrol engine to run rough for anything other than a short period is a sure way to destroy the catalytic convertor. You pump unburnt petrol into the convertor and it burns in there raising its temperature to the point at which the internals are destroyed. No, they don't normally run red hot...(only unventilated exhaust manifolds and downpipes running at full power do that...). You may have noticed a pungent smell...the smell of a cooked cat .... You are warned about doing this in your manual....
  25. not a pretty sight....
