Rear Wiper's Erratic Behaviour
Caff replied to Caff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I only have the jerky wipers. Tomorrow I shall be investigating! Also now got to look at the pool in the passenger foot well from the leaking rear wash pipe and also the sad reversing sensor unit. It's gonna cost! Since we got it in 2001 this car seems to be going through all the faults described on this forum. Thank heavens for you all on the forum. -
Rear Wiper's Erratic Behaviour
Caff replied to Caff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks. I shall have to investigate. -
Is this common? It's quite distracting as the wiper stops at various places in it's travel? It's done this ever since we had the car. Having had to sort the front wiper linkage out twice I'm up for attacking the rear wiper if it needs it! Having read posts on rebuilding the front linkage we used a good quality wheel bearing grease but wonder if marine bearing grease wouldn't be better. Copper slip, mentioned on other posts dries out over a period of time and your are back to square one. Hence the second linkage strip down! This is a brilliant forum. It's saved a fortune for us over the years. We seem to get all the common problems. Just got another one - the infamous wet passenger carpet! And I thought it was a reaction to the fear at my driving! :46: Caff

Oh well no one had any ideas but the jiggling of the connectors worked in the end. We have heat and directional control again so the problem is solved. Phew. I've put away the thermals again. Thanks anyway

Hi I have a diesel Xreg (2000) Zetec Can any one advise? The actual blower switch does work but the directional and the temperature controls don't. The three switches below also don't work. Elsewhere on the forum I saw something similar which advised removal of the switch fascia and basically checking the connections. This hasn't worked. Fuses all seem OK. Any ideas would be gratefully received cos it's cold!!! Many thanks Caff

Yes I'll be changing the switches, not the most expensive of repairs. Thank goodness! What I am wondering is what reset the "fault". Was it braking with the accelerator depressed? And do I just exchange the switches or is there some black magic to be performed like pumping the brake pedal three times and switching the ignition on and off.

I recently had the ABS warning light coming on occasionally and realised that my brake lights weren't working. Having had a good read on the forum I assumed the problem was the brake pedal switch and some aggressive pumping on the brakes seemed to remove the warning light's appearance. The brakes were fine by the way! Well I stopped normally. Today I caught my left foot on the brake pedal as I depressed the clutch (no comment!), the car jolted a little as it would and I thought nothing of it. The rest of the journey was downhill and needed no acceleration. On my next journey I had to floor the accelerator to get away from a wally  The car accelerated and then I lost power. Of course I was going up hill which made it worse. It was as if the turbo wasn't working and I was driving a different car and having to use the gears to get any acceleration. Thought the turbo had gone but there were no terrifying noises. Disconnecting the MAF airflow meter made no difference. I thought I'd check the postings on the forum again and began to wonder about the brake switch and whether my footwork had upset it! Holding the revs at 2500 and pressing the brake made the engine speed drop to tick-over as described elsewhere. Did this three times. Other half took the gal out before trying to find the switch and suddenly all is back to normal. Strange! Is it the brake switch? Is there a way to reset the brake switch sensors. I'm sure I read about it somewhere. Do you think a new switch is in order? Anyone else had these strange problems! Caff

That's disappointing. Thanks anyway!

I know that this subject has been raised before but I have only read about using stick on devices. My Galaxy Owners' guide says "The headlight direction can be changed to suit driving on the left or right hand of the road. Please consult your Ford dealer." Does any one have any knowledge of this? Can a DIYer do this? I have read that the Scorpio can be altered by moving a lever behind the lights. This seems to be too good to be true. :( other than that it's a trip to Halfords for stick ons! Any thoughts would be appreciated

Brake Warning Sounds/lights

No you're right. They didn't!! I didn't ask them to, they didn't charge, they're very local and friendly. And, don't tell them but I will be doing the work myself. :D Rapid Fit are very competetive round here. Perhaps it's all expensive! -
Brake Warning Sounds/lights
Caff replied to Caff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Finally got to Rapid fit yesterday and they tell me that the warning sound is to tell me that the ABS is working. I left the crate with them and they checked it all out and said "See you in 7000 miles, that's how long your pads and disks have got left" Expensive... So apparently I've been worrying for nothing! Better that way round than ignoring things. thanks for all your advice. I shall be keeping an eye on this forum from now on :D -
Brake Warning Sounds/lights

Sorry if this is a silly question, but, :D , how do you know whether your car has any of these features? We bought second hand and I'm sure we'd have been told as a selling point but you never know! It's an X reg. -
Brake Warning Sounds/lights

Thanks for those thoughts. Been out in the pouring rain again today testing. She brakes in a straight line and well. The judder is less pronounced so perhaps my first encounter the near prang was major effort from the ABS and the suspension protesting as you suggest Ridway. (a lesson there for me!), Looked at the brake fluid reservoir. The level of the fluid is on the join on the vessel so in between max and min. Looking at the pads on the rear perhaps 5mm and on the front 10mm. Perhaps it's time for new pads. I get 3 beeps when I brake very hard and the warning light only comes on briefly occasionally. Normally braking gives no repsonse. Well except genuine braking. What were the list of initials you gave Fredt? I suppose I haven't got them as I don't recognise them :D Definitely no traction control. I think I need the CD mentioned on a previous posting. I can't find where I read about it. Could you point me in the right direction? Took the plastic engine lid off today and found that friendly Ford had left off one of the attatching gizmos for it. Really reluctant to go back to the garage. Thanks again for your help. -
X reg 1.8TDi Galaxy Braking hard on a lane in mud to avoid an oncoming car, the brakes made a clunking sound rather than the judder I thought normally happened when ABS takes over. Testing later on flat but wet ground got same result. Perhaps coming from driver's side ( not sure without having co-driver). Haven't had much need for ABS so not sure if this normal Yesterday on wet road i test emergency braked. Not sure ABS even worked but braked OK but.. got exclamation warning light not ABS one and 3 audible peeps. Once braking stopped there were no lights and no sounds and breaking felt fine and normal. Can't find info anywhere on the significance of the beeps etc. Can anyone help please as this car constantly at service dept of dealer and they don't provide courtesy car!! (This car has been in for numerous repairs and replacement of the aircon, the central locking, the electric windows, the glowplug and the "plastic-ware" on the seats... in the last 15 months since purchase). I would be grateful for any thoughts. I'm wondering if my local and friendly Rapidfit might be the place to go to sort it.
