lambda sensor is basically an oxegen sensor it allows the ecu to see and constantly adjust the fuel mixture using a closed loop system you should find your lambda sensor bolted into the exhaust front pipe or manifold and you will find one on pretty much every car built since about 1992 if yours is playing up it usually goes 1 of 2 ways either leans fuel mixture right off causing v poor performance and stalling ect or the other way yes you guessed it very rich fueling black exhaust smoke, poor performance ect ect don't panic though! !! lambda sensors are not expensive ! although they can be if you walk into your local main dealer! go to good motor factor and ask for one they will probally ask you how many wires 1,2,3 or 4 1 wire sensors just feed the ecu 2 wire sensors usually feed ecu and go to earhth on vehicle or to ecu and to earth 3 wire sensors 1 wire feeds the ecu the other 2 are a heater inside the sensor basically lambda sensors dont work properly till they are hot so bosch ect in their wisdom fitted a heater so they worked better 4 wire sensors are as 2 wire ones but have the heater also when you get your new sensor from factors all you do is remove old sensor (usually a 22mm spanner) from your front pipe and unplug the sensor from the car cut the wires off the old sensor and following instructions you got with new sensor and using the supplyed crimp style connectors join the new sensor to the old wires put sensor back in exhaust plug it back in job done!! simple 40mins job nothing hard and not expensive last one i brought was a 3 wire and it cost me

Beware: Defective Fuel In London Area
whitty replied to Gteuk's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
apparently this is a big problem it was just on the news if you ask me it's another damn good reason to stay away from tesco's fuel ! it's cheap for a reason ! they should stick to selling bread and milk -
personally i'd buy the ones with the fat little man on the side ! but what ever you do make sure they are "extra load" tyres

hmm children being intraduced to the local knackers yard if they were mine !!!!!

Front Driver's Window. Motor Cable Snapped?
whitty replied to thunder2's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
window will not make a jot of difference to the mot so you are safe there if you really dont want to fix it you could leave it alone, if the glass is still unbroke though i'd push it up and jam it in place rather than a sheet of plastic lots better for security and will be better fit so less wind noise ect, iirc fraud will sell just the mechs on there own with no motor but they were not alot cheaper than a complete mech so you may as well have a new motor as well -

the gold gal was showing an air-con fault (climate controls flashed on start up) plugged vag-com in this morning and reset the fault it was a low air con pessure fault now apparently air con doesn't work unless it 10deg c + outside now its only 6 deg outside at the moment is there anyway to test the aircon ? the display has stoppped flashing but i want to make sure that fault is actually gone !! adjusting parking sensors i know the parking sensors can be adjusted (volume and sensitivity) using vag-com but ............. how? do you have to have a full version of vag com to do it or can you do this with the share war e version plus i recently fitted the genuine ford accesory rear bumper protector strip if anyone wants pictures and part no. then just let me know ! shan't bother posting if no one is interested but it did a good job of hiding the sctratches and looks better than the tacky stainless ones that are available elsewhere

Where Is The Brake Fluid Reservoir
whitty replied to My Other Car Is A Galaxy's topic in Trainee member help
give the gal a gold star she's spot on ! it's @ rear left hand side of engine bay -
didn't someone ask you if you had checked the oil pressure ? i dunno if this can be done via ecu if not you need a man with a gauge ! or a man that know's more than me ! i take it you have no other problems other than the oil light being on rattles, smoke ect probally is just a sensor lets face it vag engines are great but electricals are w*nk whitty

included is full version of vag com 311-2 fault finder this will find any faults with your car this is full version not trial version was what i was more interested in as long as it is an unlocked complete copy then that will do me just fine admitidly a cable would have been nice but i can get one of those quick enough
-
there you go always some one who will help ! good man
-
well happy with that as long as it turns up as discribed !! vag-com and lead ebay is good for somethings !
-
if i was near wiltshire you would be welcome to borrow a set some thing like this would suit you down to ground ok not bes quality jack but if your gonna do little bits yourself would do the job jack and stands or theres even some stands @ 50p on ebay dont know how far they are from you though doesn't sound like the nicest of jobs doing that sender on your back but shouldn't be too hard and i admire you for trying my wif would just ignore the warning! she wouldnt get under a car !
-
wasn't your capabilities i was questioning im sure you are perfectly capable of doing an oil change ect, i was questioning the advice you were given on how to get under the car and pointing out that if you are going to be doing more of your own work having or borrowing the right tools will halve the time it takes, halve the stress, make the job easier and will be alot safer, changing the oil you should fin a dodle not a hard job, you will find the oil filter on the pd engine is a cartridge type so you take the top off the holder remove old filter and replace with new one then put top back on where as the v6 petrol would be a canister type filter so slightly different other than that basically once you have done one oil and filter you will never pay a garage again i think you will be surprised at mot the galaxy isn't that bad underneath and shouldnt be too many scary bits at worst i'd expect a brake hose or somthing minor on a car of your age mot aint all it's cracked up to be if tyres are good windscreen is good brakes work and you haven't got to many funny knocks from suspension i think you will be pleasantly surprised and it should go through can i make 1 suggestion mot it before you do anything you will be miffed if you have to do the same job twice i.e took the wheel off to look at brakes were ok so put wheel back on then you mot it and it fails on somthing else and you have to take the same wheel off all over again any good mot station will give you 14 days to do repairs and give a free retest so mot the old gal take it away do any repairs and the service bits then take it back so you only get dirty once that way !
-
fair enough it's your call @ the end of the day on axel stands or correct safety equipment i just always feel
-
Don't want to sound lika an a** but wouldn't a jack and a set of axel stands be far safer ?
