Where To Get Cambelt Done
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
In the service book it just says cam belt with mileage and date but no stamp and nothing else was done on that date or mileage, it was in between services according to the book. But the last for services either were not stamped or the stamp cannot be read. It probably has been done but i just would rather be safe than sorry. None of the later stamps can be read so cannot phone anyone. I have had a car that the cam belt went on and it cost a lot more than 370 to fix. I am in surrey near brooklands. Cheers -
Hi Just upgraded from a 1997 2.0 petrol to a 2002 1.9 diesel galaxy. The service book has an entry saying cambelt changed at 80000 and car has done 90000. There is no stamp so i am going to get it done just in case along with a major service. Can anyone suggest where the best place to get it done and a price to expect. Ford want

dont know what model galaxy you have but my mk1 had the drains in the wheel arch blocked so letting water into the car. It is the drains for the water from the bottom of the windscreen and it is common for them to block up.

When i got a new key programed in, the only place i found who could/would do it was fords. Even then the first time they added the new key, that worked but the original would not start the car. luckily i checked both keys in the carpark and went straight back in and they did it again. I have since got another key but cannot program that myself. No mater how i try to do it, i cannot get it to work using the two keys in the ignition method, but i now only have it as a spare to unlock the car not to drive it as i will not pay another fortune to fords to program it for me.

As far as i know, all thermostats should fail open as they are what stops the water leaving the engine block untill it is at running temp, then open to keep the engine at that temp. When mine failed the temp guage only just moved but after a long time and it never really got hot through the heater only warm. Is the engine temp reading normally now or still cold. It may be worth taking both hoses off the rad and use a hose pipe to pass water through it and see if it is blocked. Have you felt the rad to see if it is hot all the way down. If the car runs at normal temp and hot is felt through the heater then i would not personally worry.

Easy to fit and now seems ok while driving. Just have to get the spare wheel to come down and fix the spare wheel carrier that has also broken. More fun in the cold. -

i tried moving the engine and all i get is a slight squeek from the passanger side of the engine but no movement that would indicate a mount gone. will drive it tomorrow ( 44 mile round trip ) and hopefully look into it on wednesday if it does not die on me. -

Driveshaft Rubbing On Lower Engine Cover
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hopefully your galaxy is not near driveshaft failure as I experienced couple of months ago.... i did try the driveshaft and i could not feel any play on either side nor if i tried to rock the engine from the top. i have not had the cover off to look under there as it got dark to quick and now wont be able to do anything untill wednesday so hope it will keep going till then at least -
hi suddenly today the car was making a horrible grinding noise and seemed like i was always pulling away in the wrong gear if you know what i mean. when i looked under the car the only thing i could see was that the drivers driveshaft is rubbing on the engine cover. when the car is a full lock both ways, the drive shaft is not near the cover. i had a pull on most things and not found any play that might suggest what was wrong. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what might have happened.

Hi I am not 100% sure but in 2000 they changed from the MKI to the MKII. It will then depend if you have a MKI then 1994-2000 or a MKII then 2000-2006. Like radiotwo said, try your local auto factors as they should be able to work out the ones you need from your cars reg and year, well my local one does. Good luck. Bill

Should I Get A Mkiii Or A Mkii
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Questions about the New MKIII
Cheers for the help. Still not sure but will prob go for a MKII diesel unless we get a good deal on the 2.3 petrol. A new one is outside the budget at the moment, kids costing us to much. I take it the bigger the engine size the better, never had a diesel so not sure of what to look for. Cheers again. -
Should I Get A Mkiii Or A Mkii
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Questions about the New MKIII
Thankfully twin girls not twin wives, that would drive me made. Was looking at a MKII 2.3 Ghia for 3500 but wife liked a 2.0 td ghia MKIII for 16000. There is a big price gap and not sure if having fold flat seats is worth it. May have to take them for a test drive and let them convince me. May also go for a new car through one of the discount web sites but would need to find a bit more money for that . -
Hi All, I am looking to change my MK I P reg galaxy as i am fed up trying to fix it all the time. I was looking at getting either a 2000 / 2001 reg galaxy which i think is the MK II (X reg on) or spend a lot more and get a 56 reg or later reg MK III. It will still be a used car as not enough money for a new one, only just enough for an early MKIII. What do people who have the MKIII think of it and is it worth another 10 grand or should i go for a MKII for about 4 to 5 grand. I have 2 15 month old girls so not sure if it is worth the extra money for a MKIII while they are still small and create so much mess. Also is it worth getting a diesel or stick with petrol. Cheers Bill

Full Drive Shaft Replacement - Parts List
billywizzo replied to geoff_s's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, Just to say that i bought some drop links from ebay and they have only lasted a year. They need to be replaced again so will get some from ford or my local auto factors and see if they last longer. Also check if the new drive shafts come with cv joints fitted as the pcture shows them fitted. I have a cv joint to replace and have bought one from an ebay seller that others on this site have used http://stores.ebay.co.uk/J-R-TRADING-UK-LTD It has not arrived yet but others have said they used them so hope will be ok. Good luck -

billywizzo replied to Rusty Nail's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Again Was also interested to find out what people thought of the cv joints they bought off of ebay. I see the seller mentioned is selling the joints at 21.95 in total and wondered what people thought of the quality of them Cheers -
Drive Shaft Cv Gater
billywizzo replied to Rusty Nail's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Did you have to remove the driveshaft from the car, or is it all done in with the shaft still attached to the car. Found my gaiter totally split and not sure if to just change the gaiter ( got a flexi one so dont have to remove the cv joint ) or do the cv joint. Cheers -
Tailgate Keeps Blowing A Fuse
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Cheers will try to look at it tomorrow. -
Hi I have a problem with my 1996 p reg 2 litre petrol galaxy. With the tailgate shut, when i turn on the ignition the fuse that covers the rear wiper and rear heater blows. I have had the tailgate open with the ignition on and it does not blow but does when i shut it. I think it is the auto locking in the tailgate but do not have any idea how to fix it. Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed it or is it a new locking motor. Any ideas on a fix would be welcome. Cheers Bill

Key Pats Programming
billywizzo replied to joczeze's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Same problem for me. I even have a red key but still cannot get it to work. Tried both ways with 2 keys (one the red key) and just the red key way but cannot get it to go into programing mode. Were there any Galaxy's built that can only be programed by ford and not using keys. -
Key Pats Programming
billywizzo replied to joczeze's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had the same problem with trying to program a new chip/key. I still have not got it to work. Think i will have to go to ford and get them to do it but hate to have to pay them to do it. -
Look good. Where did you get them and were they that easy to fit. Looking to get a set but unsure about buying them off ebay when you can get them fitted at halfords. Bill

Remote Keyfob Help
billywizzo replied to nikkinrob32's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi I have the infra red locking system and agree it is less than useless. I seem to stand trying to lock/unlock the car for ages it seems unless it is at night. Can you post any links to the locking upgrades you are talking about. I did a search but not found any info. Cheers Bill
