Intermittent Break Lghts!
billywizzo replied to toby1966's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi I would go for the brake light switch as well. Easy to change on a MK2 but make sure you get the correct one as I think there are 2 types a round one and square one. Also make sure you don't push the switch in as it is self setting and needs to be done by the pedal when fitted. Bill -
If the tick tick tick is noticeable in the car from the front passenger side then I think it is just the aux heater fuel pump as mine does this. It is normal as it is just some pipes ticking or something like that. A few people have mentioned the noise and it is a common thing with the galaxy. Bill

Have you checked the fuse for the aux heater is ok. If it pulled or blown vagcom will not read the unit.
-
Just to inform any other would-be- aux heater fixers, I have been told by VW that I need part 7M3963319A AT

Just been out to the car, removed the intake pipe (just to check it is not blocked) and tried to start the heater. Still lots of smoke and when refitting the pipe i noticed that there was liquid all over the heater/exhaust join so guess it is getting fuel.
-
Have you tried leaving it running? After changing the glowplug if you haven't cleaned it out there is usually a lot of smoke as the heater burns off the remaining unburnt fuel. When it was running before, i could see the flame monitor temp in Vag-con rise to about 320 degrees but now nothing. The combustion air blower, glow plug and metering pump all show on and it only starts to smoke then the metering pump turns on but no flame. That is how i know it is not fireing up. I am guessing that the smoke is diesel out the exhaust so it is getting fuel.

Just changed the glow plug ( GH001 )on my aux heater but it still not starting. Just lots of smoke out the back. Vag-com shows it trying to do everything but just wont fire. Anyone got any ideas where to look next. Cheers

I am trying to find out the number for the newer glow plug but i am not sure with one it is. I have a 2002 galaxy and fitted a GH001 last time but didnt last a year. Whinning Noise
billywizzo replied to romseygalaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If it a 2.0L petrol then yes it is. You do need to remove the aircon pully and electro magnet as the non aircon belt will foul on the aircon pully. Then just get a belt for a non aircon model. I did this when my compressor pully siezed, then after a few months just replaced the pully and magnet. Hope this helps. -
started perfect upto no1 valve let go . second hand engine in all my aux parts pump etc . car will turn over with wire to starter but not from key. no fuel getting to the pump when cranking over . just wondered if this relay stops all the electric from key-starter and pump in tank When the relay failed on my 1997 2.0l petrol galaxy it would just turn over. Hitting the relay would help it to start. I think it just stopped the fuel getting to the engine.

Loss Of Power/stalls
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Most women drive through puddles quickly as they don't want to get stuck in the middle. Don't believe her....my wife lies to me all the time. Hopefully just the air filter has been drowned. Your water level may have already been low and likely has no bearing on the matter. yea i know. i have driven it to outside the garage and hopefully it will get looked at tomorrow. it drove very rough to start with a squeel almost all the way there but had stopped by the time i got to the garage temp gauge rose normally to almost 90 where it usually is but didn't drive long enough to get to full temp. quite a bit of blue ish smoke from the car exhaust but it looked like it had stopped by the time i got to the garage. it cut out once on the way and needed my foot flat on the gas pedal to start it but it started without my foot on the gas when i started it first time at home. i tried to restart it once at the garage but it would not start unless i put my foot flat on the gas pedal. dont really know about diesel cars as it is the first one i have had and two 3 year old girls have stopped me from looking at it more today so will leave it in the hands of someone with more time and more experience. managed to borrow a car for a few days so the stress of how to get to work has gone. will post what was wrong when it is fixed or scrapped. -

Loss Of Power/stalls

Hi there A couple of things I would also check is: 1. Take off air filter cover and filter in case waters been sucked into filter box. 2. The cam belt. 3. Any damage to intercooler :) ps how deep was that puddle or was the road flooded :( hi the road was flooded. but not that deep if going slow. the car took less than a litre of water till it was full again, will look at the things you mentioned. i did think the cam belt may have slipped but i dont think it would start if it had (had that happen on another car). not sure what the intercooler is or where it is. i have not been out in it today to seee if it still cuts out but will later. hope to get someone to look at it tomorrow but at work so need to get it to the garage tonight. -

just to add that i have had a quick look at the car and it started very rough. i unpluged the maf and it seamed to run u bit better but then i lokked ans saw it has no water in the header tank. it was running at normal temp when i was driving home yesterday. will top up the water and see how much is gone and see if it is any better. -
hi got a problem with my 2002 1.9tdi auto galaxy. Yesterday my wife drove the car, went through a deepish puddle (slowly she said ) and it lost power and had to pull over. it would turn over but not start. i got the rac out and he tried it and it started almost first time. i drove home down a dual carriageway about 10 miles and when i pulled off the engine cut out. I got it to start but needed my foot flat on the accelerator for it to start. then it cut out 3 more times before i got home. now when i start it, with foot flat it is very lumpy and when i rev it to 1500/2000 lots of white smoke comes from the exhaust. it still cuts out when driven. I have not looked at the car much due to the rain but i have looked for any plugs loose and my shareware vagcom shows no fault codes that i can find also drained some fuel from the fuel filter to check for water but looked ok. does anyone have any thoughts and ideas for me to look at. i cannot get anyone to look at it as it is bank holiday and i sort of need the car on tuesday. Cheers

billywizzo replied to rudey's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
try tapping each relay and then try the car after each one is tapped. this worked for me a few times untill i changed the relay. i do not have the mk1 anymore otherwise i would have a look and tell you which one it was but i cannot remember its position or the number written on it. -

ok update , just towed around block 5 times no smoke from exhaust , and vehicle trying to run ... but still no good  Try the relay30 faq http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...c=8810&st=0 My mk1 galaxy had it fail and once changed was a good as gold. It was slightly different as i could see the relay when i looked under the fuse cover and didnt have to undo any trim. Hope this helps. -
Urgently Need Help
billywizzo replied to adambaker's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
yes because of the routing of the shorter belt it will foul the top of the a/c pully. Unless there is a different 2l petrol engine. I had an P reg 2l petrol untill i changed for a 1.9 tdi -

I managed to replace just the pully and electro magnet as the compressor was ok. It was a bit of a pig to get back on, only took a crow bar to get off once the bolt was out. If it is the compressor and you dont want to fix it, you still need to remove the pully to allow the non a/c belt to fit as i had to untill i fixed it. -

Sounds like tha aux drive belt ( fan belt in old terms ) has snapped. This happened to my galaxy and it was the a/c compressor pully siezed. Have a look in the engine bay at the left side of the engine as you look at it. If it has snapped, make sure each pully turns ok and if so just get another belt and fit it. Otherwise you need to change the siezed pully. You need to fit the belt from underneath the car. -
Aux Heater Glow Plug
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The aux heater did run properly a couple of times but mainly it was with lots of smoke that is why i changed the plug. It worked ok first try after the plug change but i only ran it for a minute as i ran out of time, second time there was some smoke and today it was quite smokey when i pulled into a car park. I hope it is just lack of use as there are no faults showing on VAG-COM for aux heater at the moment. -
Just to say glad the board is back up and running. Felt lost without it while trying to fix the car.

Aux Heater Glow Plug
billywizzo replied to billywizzo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No it was not the correct plug as i emailed the seller and he confirmed it was not correct. Got one from GSF, changed it but still got a problem with lots of smoke. Hope it will clear with use but not hopeful and if not will just pull the fuse and live with out it. -
Hi Just got a used mk2 tdi and noticed the aux heater not working. Guess it cold be the glow plug so will try and change that first. Is the correct plug to get. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Galaxy-1-9TDi-C...=item20ad795d54 Item 140349365588 in case the link does not work. I know you can get the plug from Hans Motors but these are cheaper. Hopefully someone who has changed the plug may be able to say if it is the correct plug. Cheers
