Hi Maz, firstly, your thingy on your undertray. If it is made of rubber and is about an inch thick, it is a protector for your coolant hoses, stops them rubbing together and on engine components. Secondly, your oil level warning. The level sender has 3 wires going to it. Have you got a multimeter? You can check the voltages going to the sender. Silly question, have you checked all your fuses?

No such luck !! :) :) Week in sunny Spain. Had to get away from this godforsaken weather. Good to be back though. Daz

something like this Dave-G

Can't see it being the case Bleeno but, stranger thinks have happened. Just to note though, it is definitely a level warning as the oil can is yellow and not red. Maz, I wouldn't get under the car with the factory jack. You must use axle stands. I've known cars to fall off the factory jack. You may be able to lower the undertray without jacking the car up, bit tight but the Galaxy is quite high.

I know I keep harping on about a level sensor. As mine is a 130 and yours a 115, there is a remote possibility that yours has the level sensor in the sump, as I said earlier mine doesn't. Are you able to remove your undertray (6 x 10mm bolts IIRC) and see if your sump has this sensor? I really can't be sure without you checking or somebody else confirming. You might find your missing grommet at the same time ;)

Wipers Have Stopped Working
littledaz replied to jackthehat.co.uk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Does in mine aswell. All I can say is the fuse I mentioned (2nd from right, horizantally aligned fuses) is not listed for the wipers but actually supplies them. To confirm it I removed it this morning and my wipers wouldn't work. In the wiring diagram it lists it as "Upto 2001 blower motor & 2002 onwards wipers", yours is 2002 isn't it? There are separate fuses for front & rear IIRC. -
Wipers Have Stopped Working

Hi jack........., you may have missed a fuse in the main fuse box you have already checked. Check fuse no33. It is in the row of horizontal fuses on the dash fusebox. It is second from the right 10amp red. This is listed as the fan fuse but actually feeds the wipers. It does on mine anyway. ;) -
ABS is useless in the snow anyhow. All it tries to do as soon as you touch the brakes is kick in. I think you will be OK but you know your own motor
-
Could be that ABS ecu has recognised "differing wheel speeds" due to the excessive wheelspin in the snow. You would need to scan the ecu to see what the fault is. As far as driving it, that's your call but, you will probably find the brakes are OK just no ABS intervention.

Maz (& Bleeno), my apologies. I have just pulled the undertray off my Galaxy, no level sender in sump!!! I am surprised at the level warning if it has no sensor, the TIS CD does show reference to one?? I can only assume it sees a marginal drop in pressure which is why it gives the level warning rather than pressure. Go ahead Maz and replace the sensor you have bought. You learn something new everyday  Daz

I can't see the switch/sender you have bought fixing your issue, Maz. I am going to get my Galaxy on a ramp before I leave work just for my own piece of mind that the info I am telling you is accurate. I am sure it is. As your level is OK, I wouldn't worry too much. I'll come back to you later and let you know, unless someone confirms this in the meantime. Daz

Nah! You do that when it still doesn't start.
-
This is most probably a fault with your reader coil. This is a sensor fitted around your ignition barrel that reads the immobiliser transponder in your key. It is known that these can sometimes have a bad connection. Try tapping, quite firmly, the steering shrouds around the ignition barrel to see if it starts. Failing that you may have to remove the steering column shrouds to get to the connector. Wiggle the wire, it should start.
-
What you've got looks something like this? Your electrical terminal will possibly be shrouded.
-
Mardle, which area of the country are you in? Your Gal could benefit from a Vagcom plugin. Faults could lie with MAF, turbo, throttle position sensor, fuelling. As others have said, we need a little more info. Does it play on gradients, when hot or cold (eng temp), warning lights, etc?
-
Sorry Maz, disappeared for a bit, just come back from kid's school open evening. This is what a level sensor looks like. I have seen it mentioned on a TIS CD so I am sure is fitted on your Gal. Obviously the sticky-up but is inside the sump. If you remove your engine undertray, you should see it fitted to the bottom of the sump. I know you've run the Gal today but, I have known some cars take a couple of days for the light to go out after topup. If your level is OK & your oil pressure warning light is not on, I wouldn't worry too much. Daz
-
Sorry, Maz forget the bonnet warning, mine doesn't have it either. I still think you have bought a pressure sensor not a level sensor. Do you know if you have sensor at the bottom of your sump, held in by 3 bolts?
-
Whereabouts are you? Someone may have Vagcom near you as it will need to be scanned. Otherwise, yes, a trip to the dealers
-
I take you're not getting that now Maz? The handbook says somewhere that if you open the bonnet and close it again, the level warning will go out. If after 63 miles the oil level is still low, the warning comes back on. Do you get a "bonnet open" warning if you leave it open with the ignition on?
-
Bleeno, not 100% sure, m8. I am at work and the missus has the Galaxy so can't verify but, I think the message is something like "Stop engine" or "oil press.". Someone may correct me but I'm convinced Maz's issue is purely that it needs a driving cycle.
-
Bleeno, that is correct for oil pressure. The warning Maz is getting is oil level, different sender. Maz, I believe that the Galaxy with the 115 & 130 engines, which are VW engines, use the VW oil level sensor. This does not have a float sensor, it uses oil temperature to evaluate level. I'm not going to go too deep technically, but when the light comes on it usually needs some driving mileage after topup to extinguish it. My suggestion is, as it only came on last night, to go out and give it a run and then try it. You maybe replacing a sender that doesn't need replacing.
-
Maz, I don't mean to stop you when you've gathered so much momentum but which light is on on the dash, level or pressure. I'm fairly confident that you have a pressure sensor in your oil filter housing and a level sender in your sump.
-
Go on Maz, you can do it  Mattjnr or I can do you a vagcom scan and service light reset at the karting. That's one job less. If you get stuck, just ask, I'm sure we'll all help. Daz

Got me too!! :) Nice one Dave-G. You obviously have too much time on your hands :16: Then again, so must I, 'cos I looked :D
