  1. What does that mean? EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor (DPF). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0402 code means that OBD detected an excessive amount of EGR. SymptomsYou may notice drivability problems such as the engine may surge off idle. There may also be other symptoms. Causes A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup) The EGR valve is faulty The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum Possible Solutions With a P0402, it is common for people to replace the EGR valve, only to have the problem return. The most likely solution is to replace the DPFE sensor. Check the voltage at the DPFE sensor both at idle and when the EGR is open Replace the DPFE sensor
  2. Hi their, If you can state the engine and year that might help us a bit. Things to check:- When water temp on dash is on half, put your heater controls to the RED(hot) and change the direction to the windscreen, feel if its hot? then try the face vents, then change to the feet vents and again check if hot. If all are cold/ slight warm then you could have a blockaged to the heater matrix behind the dash. Check the water pipes from the rad they should be very hot, you will have some pipes round back or engine going to the bulkhead which feeds water matrix, check them if they are very hot. if one is hot and one isnt then you defo have a blockaged their. Try flush system and see if that helps.
  3. Sounds like your MAF to me, or or could be TPS. get car on diagnostic as thats easy options.
  4. could be a number of things, check all pipes on the turbo and around the top part of engine. Sounds like a boost pipe may of burst and your getting an induction roar sound. Any power loss? bad idle?
  5. ALL european cars have to be OBD2 compliant from 1996, so the memoscan will read the VW and reset ecu, the VAG.com is the like tech2 for vauxhall. software design to do more programing to their ecu's.
  6. Mines under ashtray, as stated some mk2 are under fuses box. that reader is about 40.00 del off ebay. if anyone around london needs a free check then let me know.
  7. Get one of theses i have and works perfect on my 2.3 http://www.memoscan.cn/en/showproducts.asp?Cid=9
  8. You tried changing your gearbox oil?
  9. Hey mate, I can do the following depending on ecu limts:- read and clear codes check engine idle airflow co2 immissions fuel mixture/rate water temp air temp It can do more just depends on what your ECU stores. I got this one fro
  10. 8%??????????blooooody hell :lol Do you have a cat fitted?<_<
  11. as u have ford engine dont think VAG.com can clear EML. I have a OBD2 reader and i can clear my EML on my 2.3
  12. start car and put some talcum powder on the belt if it goes away for a bit then, sounds like your tensioner is faulty. but i would do cheapest options and replace belt first.
  13. if u had auto then could be gear box but i see from sig you have a manual!, but i would get your car ECU read for any errors stored firstly!(any garage can do this for
  14. I have this one http://www.memoscan.cn/en/showproducts.asp?Cid=9 Got it off ebay for 40.00 del.
  15. My OBD2 reader works fine on my 2.3 ford engine :D
  16. 1. when thermostate is closed it will allways have water inside engine so dont worry about that, most cars bleed themselves from air locks. I normally fill rad up from both ends and fill water up through water housing and water pump. then connect hoses and fire it up. while its running i keep the header tank topped up, when thermostate opens then i keep topping header tank up until its on full. Put the cap on header tank and go for a quick drive. In morning release cap and check water level. 2. Dunno what engine you have but if its a cambelt driven engine the water pump is normally driven by cambelt, i think the water pup is near the front of engine by exhaust manifold end. 3. If you spray water in on end of rad and it comes out the other side the same colour then its not showing any signs of being blocked.
  17. best to phone fords and quote your reg number and they can tell you correct rating. places like halfords/europarts etc all have diff ratings.
  18. You must have a hole or crack in the air pipes behind the dashboard. i would of thought that the dealer would of put the blower on full power, and set it to blow to windscreen foot well etc etc, and block the pipes and see if any air was escaping along the pipes!!!!
  19. Could be a dodgey earth! or the fuel tank sender switch is faulty. What noise is the car making? you could have a fuelpump issue or the common fuel pump relay is on its way out.
  20. Service light is done using the trip meter button on your dash, cant remember what u do, but i think u hold trip button down and turn igniton on!! Find someone like me but close to home who has an OBD2 reader.
  21. if u change oil and fileter yearly then they should last as long as car!
  22. can be two things, fuel pump relay(common fault) or immob chip in key mine was both and now working. The relay solder tends to crack from heat, so i replaced mine, also the immob chip in key can come lose and not sync with car.
  23. Easy job to do mate, if you have the "VW" key, which has a black round plastic fob with two button on it. and the key has like a swiggley groove through it. Just pull the black fob away fron the key groove and use a small flat head to open the black fob up. You can get battery from halfords/ford etc Just make sure your immobliser chip doesnt full out or you wont be able to start your car
  24. I bet they didnt skim your fly wheel? its like fitting new pads ono damaged disc, you get feed back and takes a while for them to bed into shape. As your car had 145k on old clutch and is diesel i would be 100% confindent your fly wheel would not be as smooth as it should be. It should wear in but may reduce life of new clutch. I would take it back and get them to skim fly wheel and refit clutch.
