Has Anyone Else Experienced This?
Jimbo73 replied to davewill's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I dont know why it does it, but in my VW Passat it does this for a reason and tells you in the manual. I cant find the manual to tell you why it does, but when turned on it always blows air away from the windscreen, and it blasts automatically and should be left for a few seconds till it has done what its done.. -
I have a Galaxy and up to now no problems with the air con. I just leave it to run generally on ECON at 22 . the odd time when I want it cool I put in on AUTO. I do run it on full power LO for about 5 minutes a month, and that is the only thing I do because I have to do it with my Passat. After reading the thread there seems to be a consensus of what the right thing to do with the air con is. IE. run it on Auto always and on lo for a couple of mins. Where dfoes this come from and what is the right thing to do?

1st car Ford Fiesta MK 1 which was okay after my test. Then came a Sierra 4x4 with tinted windows... Man I thought i was the bees knees. Then when it got stolen I went out and bought the cheapest car I could just to get by. A Datsun cherry, I got it for 50 quid and it lasted me just over a year and a half. passed its MOT then a few months after that it just died... Then I got a Triumph TC1500 1975 wow that moved, and had a bench front seat.. Another fiesta.. just when insurance got expensive..Lasted me for 4 yearsand I was over 25 so a change was in order... A 8v Golf MKII which was race tuned by some place in Warrington.. Swapped it for a golf convertible before I killed myself in it... Worst mistake I ever made... A hairdressers car was all i got of the lads in work.. A white GOlf convertible...... Now a VW PASSAT pd130TDI. and a Galaxy 2.3... Love the Gal but man the MPG is bad compared to my Passat... It hurts to drive the Gal although I love it just as much.. Cant work out why but there is something about the Galaxy that makes it a superior car to most cars I have driven

Things Most Likely To Go Wrong

If there was charring what could be done about it? By the way it has got Air Con which (fingers crossed touching wood) is working fine at the min. When I get a service done I know the Ford Dealers will change the fluid in it, or they should, but I dont know wether to let them coz its working great. I got it about 3 months ago and it had been fully serviced by Fords so I dont know wether to keep that up. Spare wheel winch? I haven't even looked where that is meant to be? I am scared now? Stupid question but where is it? Going to check the fuse box in the light of day at the weekend and see what that is like. -
I have a V reg Gal 85,000 miles. I have done the wiper motor and linkage, sorted out the underlink - stabilisers, and these seem to be the jobs that every Gal needs doing. So the question is - What is most likely needed to be done soon. Just so I can prepare myself in advance. I did read somewhere on the forum about the driveshaft at about 100,000 miles. Whats that all about?

Underlinks, Stabilers?
Jimbo73 replied to Jimbo73's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A quick test drive roind the block and hey-ho no clunking!!!! Wehey!! Thanks to evryone on the forum for pointing me in the right direction. The instructions on the site really helped... I reckon if it wasnt for this site, the people and the info already here, I would of had to have laid out loadsamoney (which i havent got). Many thanks! -
Underlinks, Stabilers?
Jimbo73 replied to Jimbo73's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Done.... Soaked them last night. The new ones are slightly different to the old ones... The ones that i took off had a backnut on them that i had to put a spanner on to hold. The new ones just went straight on. I had a light problem on one of th new ones, as I was tightening up the bottom nut the whole tread started to turn so i had to grip the round bit at the back with long nose pliers. I was careful not to damage the rubber. Just gonna do a test drive at half time in the match. to listen for clunks.... -
I have the new stabilisers and I am about to change them. I tired to get my socket onto the bottom nut but there was not enough room behind the nut to get the bar on, so I am using ring spanners, should be alright for the top one's. Has anybody ever had these where they have been seized or do they just need a good whack....
-
I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago... And with me not being to good with cars i sprayed it with wd40..... the old magic spray worked a treat....

When I stripped out my linkage to repair it after it seized I noticed there was no cover on the box with the filter in. I am guessing there should be one there but there isnt. Does anyone know where to get one, and is it going to cause any damage ie. if it falls out and hits the linkage, fumes in the car , or is this just OTT? Do we really need the cover or will my black tape suffice??

Vibrationy Type Noise
Jimbo73 replied to Jimbo73's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
wonder if the load on the power steeering pump is greater at/near full lock which could empahasise the noise then, hence the relationship to the steering if it is he aux belt - ??? I like the reasoning behind that.... Hmmm . Got me thinking... On my way to the local empty supermarket carpark!!! Will update with the results... -

HAHA Thanks John.... I will check for this as well......HMmmmmm Cars.... -
How big would the speaker thingy be?
-
Dont know... There is a controller located in the rear compartment (on the left as you open the boot) with a lead coming up and there is a connection on it, which looks like something should be on the end of it, but there is nothing there.. I guess this must be the speaker in the back... cant see the one in the front.. Dont know where it is meant to be located... What should be there.. what would it looklike..

How Many Parts Have You Had To Buy?
Jimbo73 replied to Vanbursta's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have had mine for 2 months... 1 - New wiper motor 2 - Underlinks Stabilisers 3 - Looking for speaker for rear parking sensor 4 - Investigate noise from Steering on full lock I can see why people love these cars, I think it is great... Just hope once these are done that may be an end to it (for a while at least).... -

Dave thanks for the info.. You can rest assured I will be on the Tesco car park tomorrow night driving round in a tight circle to see if it gets louder... and to make a proper mental note of the noise...It is definatley not a click metallic or not,, its a hum which instincts tell me is caused by vibration or rubbing.. Will update tomorrow in the tight turning circle... If i dont get arrested that is.... LOL -
I have all the controls in my Galaxy for the parking sensor but no speaker thingy.. Does anyone know where I can get one. I tried Ford and they will do the lot but I remember that when he was tellin gme on the phone i went all hazy at the price.... Tried Ebay cant find anything on there, and every time i try a breakers they have not got them or they have sold it already.

Vibrationy Type Noise
Jimbo73 replied to Jimbo73's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Once again I would like to say thanks for all your help!! If the drivebelt or CV Joint is causing the hum, what could happen if either of these items fail. If the drivebelt goes and I stop Immediately will it cause damage. If th CV Joint goes what is the likely outcome?? Just Risk assessing the situation.. Cost Versus Risk .... Please let me know.... Many thanks.,,, -
Vibrationy Type Noise

It has 85,000 and the service book is filled in with polar ford at every interval and all the sheets are with it. and seems to be in great condtion apart from these niggly bits.. It was one of the bosses from a company we used to deal with and he was worse than me at cars and I dont think he could be bothered fixing them coz he just bought a brand spanker Peugeot 8 seater thingy.. Where are the drive belts... Is it possible for a lay person to change them or garage? I am hoping the droplinks will be here for saturday, so that will stop the clukning noise... Would there be a definitive way to find out if it is the drive belt or CV joint... If i was to leave it for a bit would it cause a great deal of damage? Would these be picked up on an MOT... You will have to forgive me if these questions sound rediculous but I am useless when it comes to cars.... Although I can regrease a seized linkage in a day now i reckon.... Thanks to MO4 -

It is a low frequency loud hum..... What is an outer CV joint, how much would this cost by a freindly garage?
