My Galaxy Is A Non Starter... Help.,.,
Jimbo73 replied to Jimbo73's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
well I have just been out to the car, no water in the footwell under the passenger seat. The light on the drivers door goes off when I turn the alarm off, then when I put the key in, it stays on until I try to start the engine then it goes off. There is a little noise like the engine readying itself (normal I think) for a start, and then it stops after about 2 secs, then when I turn the key, the headlights dim and there is a clicking noise like a relay. But nothing... Arrggg.,..,.,.,,. Starter motor or one (or a number) of the relays? -

Hello All, Got in the Gal this morning, and it wouldnt start. Though it just needed a jump start but got home from work and tried to jump start and still nothng, Not even a click or an attempt to turn over.... When it is connected to the other car, all the lights work okay even the windows are up and down without any probs, so I guess its not the battery... What is best to check next ,and how do I go about doing it. These things happen at the worse time, as I am (or was) going on a camping hol next Monday with the wife and kids to Devon..... Thanks for any help.. Jimbo.

My galaxy is 2000 V reg, 2.3 Ghia, all works, even the air con, and has never failed me. It has 2 of the intergrated child seats in it, and is in great condition inside. How much extra would the intergrated child seats raise the price by? I am going to put it in the auto trader and thinking about e-bay. Never really sold a car before, and not sure which is best. Anyone have any good tips..??

I had to do mine again today. It took 4 hours start to finish, and my back is done in.... One very good tip for knocking the spindles out, it to put the nut back onto the spinsdle, and instead of hitting it with a copper hammer, which not a lot of people have, and can be expensive and useless for most other things, I use a very old cricket bat. Its recked now like, but it is such soft wood, that it compresses extremely well, and does the job superbly. I had one mishap, I dropped the washer off the wiper into the land of never.

Front Indicator Bulb Replacement
Jimbo73 replied to galaxybox's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Erm...... I am stuck.... My Gal failed on the o/s indicator lamp, it is a 2000 V reg, and I looked at the dam thing and after reading this, a five minute job has just turned into a couple of hours. Is there no easier way to remove the lamp?? It also failed on the rear reg bulb... Any help on how to remove this...??? -
Right,,, I am going to be doing this on the weekend on my Gal... Can I get one of them ratchet tools from a motor factors or Halfords, or are the dealers the only place to go... I am now scared as well...... The gal was low on oil the other day, and I put some oil for a petrol engine, it is not 5w -30w, it is 15 - 40. Will this damage the engine? I have only been around the block with it since putting the oil in. 1 more question - Where is the sump?
-
OKay... It started again tonight... Wasn't as rough as yesterday, but wasn't as she should be.... Round the block and back , all okay. Question is - Can I put anything like Redex fuel cleaner or anything like that? Is anything recommended or are they just marketing ploys for people like e who do not know much about cars...
-
Defianately no oil leak, it spends most of its time on the drive here, or the same spot in work and there is no oil on either ground below the car... Could the lack of oil prevent it starting though?
-
Well------ I came home from work, took a long and nasty look at the car... Got in and thought I will give it one more go, and after a few seconds it started...It ran a bit rough for about a minute, then it was great again. I took it for a short drive, and it was okay, back on the drive and it started 1st time no probs.. Any ideas anyone????? EDIT - I have just checked the oil and it is a little low, it is at the bottom doodaa on the dipstick, I am going to put oil in right away. It is not at the top not in the middle just level with the bottom notch (what is the technical term). Thanks.

Just tried the other key, and no change... I watched the LED on the door, and it didnt do anything... Just as normal when the ignition is turned to pos 1 it comes on, when I try to start it the light doesn't flash or anything..... Ah well... Whats next. Is the starter motor to the right of the engine block about mid way down? If it is it seems pretty big. There was a lead on top of it plugged in which is blue (I think) and another 2 or 3 inches below that, I unlplugged them both and checked the connections, they both seemed okay. When I unplugged the lower one, I though I will try to turn the engine over, and there was nothing... So I am guessing that is the starter motor... I am thinking of joining the AA online tonight (homestart) and get them out on Saturday? Or is that a bit dodgy. I would love to do it myself though, as I have felt a sense of acheivement and pride with the other few jobs I have done on the car. Thanks.

Hello all, Once again my Galaxy is causing problems... Hopefully not a big problem.... Anyway, I went out on Saturday in the Galaxy and it was great - no problems, started okay, drove great. Gets up this morning and it won't start. When I turn the key to start, the car makes a noise like it is turning to start, but the engine never catches, and doesn't sound like it is going to. In the past, the odd time on startup when the car has started as soon as the engine catches there is a medium to loud high pithced growly whirring noise which lasts about a second. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. The ignition lights all seem to be normal. Tried a jump start from my passat. Anyway, I know the battery is okay, the next thing I can think of testing is the starter motor, where is the starter motor and how do I test it, and is there anything that it is more likely to be, or has anyone had this problem before. I don't mind getting out there and doing a bit under the car. I am not the best , but I cannot afford a garage so I have to do it myself..... Any help is mostly appreciated... If its not in my signature I have a 2.3Ghia V Reg Petrol Galaxy -

Mum of 4's thread on the wiper situation really helped me, and I am so useless with cars.... In fact I would say I am the worst, but the people on this thread are a great help. There is so much info on here to help, and if you search find and read, and have a go, they are only too happy to help. Up to now I have repaired my wipers - Linkage and motor, drop links, amogst a couple of othere things.

Mine CC flashes 6 (I think) times on startup, but it blows cold air at the moment, so I am leaving well alone.... Is it just something about this country, becasue they seem to work fine in spain...

Yes it is just a nut and bolt, but it never seemed to tighten up solid. There is still some play in it.... Like it is possible to waggle it up and off, although not easy,, unlike the neutral which doesnt move at all.... Hmm.... I was thinking about wrapping a bit of foil around the connection to ensure it tightened up, but though better off and just left it... The car is starting alright, but because of the not so tight connection could this build up heat and damage the battery, or will it not affect it? Thanks for allaying my fears about the spark...Forgot about the c/locking and alarm.

Hello all, I have just changed the battery in the Gal, and encountered 2 problems, little ones though. Problem 1 - The live terminal is not getting very tight. It is possible to spin it round, some force is required though, unlike the neutral which is solid. This may of been the cause of the original battery needing changing.. Any ideas on wether it needs a new terminal or there are tricks of the trade to help me along my way, and could this of been the cause of the original battery going down the pan. Problem 2 - I though I had turned everything off in the car, and when I had the live on, then connected the neutral threre was a bit of a spark. Should this of happened? The day to day problems of owning a Galaxy......But we lov'em....

I just recently changed my coil packs, got them off ebay 70 quid for 2. I have posted a link to it somewhere on here... If you search for it I am sure you will find it... If not I will try to dig out that page myself. You can pull the leads off the plugs or the coil pack and see if there is a change in the engine to determine if it is the coil pack, and which one..
