  1. I thought that, but what could be causing the misfire? could the coil pack go just like that?
  2. i have just changed the engine in the gal but when i finished and started it, it is missing like a bu**er and cat is getting red hot and glowing! any ideas??????????
  3. finally started the job, 4hrs seen the driveshafts off, air pump thing off, most plugs and pipes off, just the exhaust, and remaining pipes and she'll be out (i hope), wasted nearly 2 hours trying to get the front wheels off, someone has over tightend the nuts and i cant budge them, so had to split balljoints with wheels on! hopefully tomorrow will be more productive.
  4. click here try this, its the driver, but if yours is usb vag.com will still think its a serial connection so you have to click on the com ports to test.
  5. I had the same problem I had to download and install a driver for the lead, then on vag.com test com4 that worked for me

  7. well its all happening hopefully tomorrow, i'll let you know how it goes, tis mentions dropping the front suspension struts, i'm hoping this wont be necessary. any last minute advice would be appreciated.
  8. with my lead i had to download kkl drivers, then plugged into car with ign on and set to com 4. works but with limited functions as it is not registered

I am changing the engine in my v6 gal. the replacement has come out of a 1998 golf vr6 it is the aaa code, and was out of a manual. it is going into an auto, can anyone help with what needs to be changed. I am presuming flywheel, but not sure about sensor and stuff. all help is very much appreciated

  11. how did you bleed them? a lot of these newer cars should be bled using a pressure bleeder, as the seals in the master cylinder dont hold up very well to conventional bleeding. if bleeding the old way it should ideally be done with the engine running. hope this helps
  12. I am going to be changing the engine in my 2.8 gal, is it straightforward to convert the auto to a manual. is it just add a pedal, change the stick and linkage and slap in a clutch or is it something altogether more complex?
  13. get someone to engage a gear and release clutch slowly when noise starts look at the driveshafts in 1 is spinning then its defo a c.v. joint, but towing and trying all this, it may now be a driveshaft that is required.

I have removed the rocker cover and found the tensioner bolt had failed! the cams had jumped, so I have retimed the engine and fiited a new tensioner bolt, refitted everything and the car runs, but there is an intermittent miss on low revs. not sure if it is a valve as i thought it would miss all the time on low revs.the chain was initially silent but after about an hour of running the rattle started to reappear. any ideas?? :lol:

  17. hi my wife went shopping today and all was fine when she came back to the gal and started it there was a major topend rattling noise. oil level is fine cant see any obvious problems i.e. alt belt. the noise is accompanied by a misfire. it sound like its coming from the rear left of the engine but cant be sure. any ideas???? thanks in advance

  20. can you put the old cluster back in a read the code from that?? unfortunately the old unit is completely u/s, it was taken completely to bits by the previous owner.
  21. !!!update!!! read the codes today, the only recurring code was maf low signal, so i guess thats the problem.
  22. could anyone please tell me the software code for the instrument cluster on my 96 gal 2.8v6 auto with abs, have tried 00116 but the clocks wont work. could it be faulty clocks? there are no fault codes on vag.com. they aree not the multifunction clocks (i.e. - no display in tacho) with only one plug in the back. thanks in advance.
  23. please help when statring from cold the motor wont idle, when you hold the throttle slightly open it pops through the airbox and suffers from lack of power wehn moving. after less then a mile this clears and it runs perfect and idles fine. does this sound like the maf or a temp sensor, if a temp sensor where do i find it? thanks in advance. p.s. will vag.com diagnose the fault?
  24. does anyone local to wrexham have vag com? a problem with my clocks needs sorting.
