Lump Needs Identifying
wood73 replied to dipsomaniac's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
it is an auxillary air pump, its purpose is supposedly to bring the cat up to efficient working temp quicker. you usually hear it making a noise when you start the engine from cold. -
if water is seeping into cylinders then compression is leaking into water, causing unusally high pressure into the cooling system. usia rag feel the radiator hose when enginge is running, if its rock hard then open the water bottle when cold an start the engine, watch for water overflowing or lots of bubbles if so then it the head gasket.

I bit the bullet today and bought a new coil pack. I fitted it but it made no difference! i was standing there baffled playing with the leads with the engine running and my other hand was near the wiper when i got a shock and noticed a spark from my knuckle to the wiper but only when touched the 1 lead, so i took it off and replaced it with 1 of the old leads and hey presto perfect, out of interest I put the old coil pack on and it was fine. so I now have a brand new

is the tyre wearing one sided or bumpy, the latter suggests shock absorber, the former suggests wear in the bushes but this usually affects both tyres on the axle. -

I have put up with the steadily worsening misfire until i can bear it no more, the car had become undriveable. today I changed the leads and plugs, it was slightly better but still missing like a bu***r! the plugs out of the back of the engine looked fine but the front three were badly burnt (the electrode was half the size of normal) can anyone help? I dont want to go to the expense of a coil pack if its not going to make a difference. cheers

I have changed the engine in my 2.8 v6, as I recall it was quite a big job, but i was lucky enough to have the use of a 2 post ramp to lift the car off the engine. as it comes out from underneath, although someone did say the front end can be removed and the engine pulled out the front but i'm not sure.any help i can give just ask!

i would err the side of caution on this one, a new cambelt kit is a lot cheaper than a new engine! -

But it seems to be restricted to Diesels, I believe the 2.0/2.3 has a different final drive assy? my 2.8 cv joint broke up yesterday, still driving but wobbly steering wheel and constant crunching noise. replaced today at a cost of -

The heated screen only works on a strip about 3inches wide, is this a bad connection or do I need a new screen? its a real pain because the heater controls are stuck on face vents, and the screen mists up in seconds! thanks in advance.

sorry should have mentioned have changed plugs and leads when the problem first started.

I have a quite bad misfire when starting from cold, it will tick over perfect but when under load it pops back through the airbox and there is a noticeable miss. when driving it tonight I noticed every now and again it does when warm now and when cruising down the bypass it seems to die then go again. could this be the coil pack breaking down? I have recently changed the maf twice but it wont idle for more than a few seconds when i plug it in. please help, this car is starting to annoy (and bankrupt) me!!

sounds like dust on the brakes, try blowing into the calipers with an air line, if this clears the noise temporarily, then a strip down and clean and refit with some copper grease will solve the problem, for the price of a set of pads its worthwile changing whilst they are stripped.

wanli, one of the cheaper eastern imported budget brands. still not a bad price for 2.

are you sure it is oil on the wishbone and not grease? because this indicates a split c.v. gaitor. your oil consumption does seem a little excessive, try checking the rocker gasket as this is usually the first thing to leak oil on any car.

to alter the size of tyres can have an impact on the speedo reading due to rolling circumference, to change the size you to keep this the same, a rough guide is for every 5 of the aspect ratio(i.e.- 55, 60) you change you need to adjust the width by 10, so you would need to fit 205/60/16 to replace 215/55/16. also you'd need to change the spare as well to keep legal when it is fitted. i'd try adjusting pressures slightly first as this can have a dramatic effect on ride. hope this helps

hi I need to remove the steering wheel from my gal, the ring with the horn contact needs replacing!. do I need to deactive or just disconnect battery, remove 2 torx screws from back of wheel and pull away? I know it's dodgy playing with airbags but a friend said(he fixes everything with cable ties!) theres only a problem if you interfere with the airbag itself when removed, is this right?
