  1. You need to pull back the rubber gaitor between the door and car and check for damaged wiring. Normally the insulation cracks and the wiring shorts out or the wires break completely. You will need to solder in new pieces of wire. The other way is to buy a new loom, loads of money.
  2. It's normally the resistor pack or "hedgehog" that gives fan problems and are known to burn out. If you remove the glove box and look to the right you will see a red or green component fixed to the heater ducting. This is the "hedgehog". If I remember it's only held on with one screw. With it removed you can normally see any damage or burning they may have happened. People have managed to repair it but it depends on the amount of damage. I think they are about
  3. Cap seems to have been ok but left the new one on anyway.
  4. Pipe repaired and now no leaks, cut the damaged part off (about 15mm) and refitted as it was still long enough. The replacement pipe would have cost around
  5. This has been raised on the forum before and appears to be quite common. Someone with more knowledge on this will be along soon.
  6. I have since found a coolant drip on the engine. Haven't got a clue how to reach it so my mechanic is going to have a look. it's around the thermostat housing area. No driving the wife's Fiesta until I get it fixed, don't want it letting go all of a sudden.
  7. I had to get my new one from the dealer to make sure I got the correct one. Fortunately the guy in the body shop there knows me and replaced it for me. He said they are a right sod to do and there is no easy way. You have just keep breaking bits of the old one off because they are indeed glued on. I think he said there were locating lugs so you get it back in the right place.
  8. I found it. From what I could see it looked a bit flat at one spot. I have put some Vaseline on it as a temporary measure until the replacement arrives. I must admit the cap went on really easy with the Vaseline on.
  9. Thanks for the reply insanitybeard, I've ordered a replacement. I will go and have another look just in case I have a poltergeist......................................
  10. I am starting to lose a little coolant with the tell tale smell. There is no pressure build up apparent when I remove the expansion bottle cap. I have noticed a sign of some lime scale or water leakage around the cap, fine white power. I can't see a seal on the cap or bottle, should there be one? Thanks
  11. Assuming your Galaxy is a Mk2 the TDI engine is a VW unit. I believe the engine in the Mondeo is a Ford unit. So I would check very carefully about the compatibility of the gearbox. Some one else on the forum will probably know more than me.
  12. After some investigation it would appear my problem with the J&R was probably caused by my Galaxy being a 130PS diesel and not the normal 115PS. They cured the wobble but I got vibration whilst accelerating at any speed. My mechanic advised me to have them removed before they wrecked the transmission. I got a full refund.
  13. I don't think the length is critical. Just need to make sure they have the correct fitting. If you enter your registration number the site should advise you. PS. Don't order them on line they will probably say they are obsolete and send you the cheaper ones with now explanation or adjustment to price. That's what they did to me and took about a month to get a refund. Go to your local depot instead.
  14. I watched my mechanic friend do mine, on a four post lift, and if I remember correctly he did split the lower ball joint. The hub bolt was very tight on both sides so that may be an issue. I managed to get GSF drive shafts from my local Europarts and they have been very good.
  15. Agree with insanitybeard, failing cv joint(s). I had the "wobble" recently and it was caused by a seized cv. Replaced both drive shafts and the wobble has gone. If you do replace the drive shafts try and buy quality ones. I put cheaper ones on and had to replace them within a week.
  16. No fans continue to run on mine. Never have.
  17. Get the ATF checked/changed as the first step.
  18. Check the wiring in the rubber boots between door and car. Check all of them including the boot. Start with the driver's door first. Wires have been known to break and short out because of the stress on them. Very common problem.
  19. Try and get another under tray. It has been known for the power steering to fail momentarily when it's raining. The water gets to the power steering pump/belt causing it to slip.
  20. Europarts did do GKN drive shafts which are brilliant. I fitted J&R and removed them within a week, rubbish.
  21. Sorry misread the post. Your old box not the replacement.
  22. I have heard that if a cat fails the engine can lose all power and run like a pig. Electronics, back pressure, etc, etc. I had both exhaust sections fail at the boxes and I couldn't hear it. Peculiar to diesels?
  23. I would be more worried why it is stuck in second gear.
