  1. Yes. The 2.8 V6 is a VW engine.
  2. Well after a lot of messing about I got the GKN Lobro shafts and they were fitted tonight. The vibration at 20mph has gone and accelerating fairly hard up to 70mph is smooth as silk. The J&R shafts used to vibrate all the way. We are wondering if I've noticed these problems because my Galaxy is the more powerful 130PS but might be wrong. Now to try and get my money back.
  3. Sorry misread the post. Drive shafts sending me mad.............................
  4. You may have dislodged one of the ABS sensors when you changed the drive shafts.
  5. Don't believe it, Q Drive drive shafts arrived. Now trying to get the GKN ones delivered.
  6. The clutch on the Galaxy is hydraulic and the slave cylinder is in the gearbox housing. I'm not sure if there is a return spring on the clutch pedal itself which may have broken.
  7. Just covered 100 miles and I'm taking off the J&R drive shafts. I have now got a vibration at around 20mph in second gear which I have seen in other posts on this forum. Rather than damage my transmission, I have just ordered two GKN Lobro drive shafts which I am told are very good. Now got to try and get my money back for the J&R ones. Not holding my breath!!
  8. New drive shafts fitted tonight. Took my mechanic an hour for both sides. Old nearside shaft: Inner CV joint was very slack and rumbled when moved about. The boot that was replaced last year for the MOT was not fitted too well and was leaking grease. Old off side shaft: Inner CV joint was seized solid. Outer CV boots on both shafts were perished. The end result is that my wobble has gone and the car actually does now run smoother. Let's hope the new shafts hold up for a while.
  9. It appears I have the new improved drive shafts with an unlimited mileage three year warranty. Watch this space...........................
  10. When repairing the wiring you really need to insert extra lengths of wire. Just joining the two ends together makes it shorter and puts more strain on the wiring. Cables being a bit short is the main cause of these problems. Manufactures saving little bits of wire on thousands of vehicles is a big saving. It's a shame you are not closer, I'm a dab hand at soldering.................
  11. J&R ones arrived to my surprise. Any views on these? Be gentle...................
  12. Yes it happened to mine. Good old plastic. They are very expensive unless you get one from a scrappy.
  13. Have ordered two new drive shafts. Hopefully fitted this weekend. I will let you know the results.
  14. I've read somewhere on the forum about a company in Poland that supplies very good drive shafts for the Galaxy. I've searched but can't find the information again. Can someone provide a link for me? My symptoms are wobbling when accelerating between 40-50mph but mainly when warm. I can go for a week sometimes without any wobble. I can't find anyone who is prepared to re-grease the CV joints which I think may be the problem. The only option I'm given is to replace the drive shafts. Anyone near Peterborough fancy a job.................... Thanks.
  15. I think it is under the driver's seat on some models.
  16. I can only go by what I have read on this forum. Watch your gearbox!!
  17. Check that the gear selector cables have not popped off. I believe they are mentioned in the FAQs.
  18. It will most likely be a Dual Mass Flywheel type. People have tried doing the solid flywheel conversion only to regret after but the choice is yours. I would recommend that you replace the clutch slave cylinder at the same time as it's mounted in the gearbox bell housing.
  19. Tensioner cheaper than an alternator so a good result. The gear selector issue may have been just a one off. Leave it alone unless it causes any more problems.
  20. Going blind in my old age! I'm thinking it may be turbo related as well.
  21. There is a switch on the gear shift lever. These have been known to wear and cause the light to come on. It has been covered before on the forum so try a search.
  22. You should be able to switch the a/c off on the dashboard. If you have climate control just set it to ECON mode. If manual a/c just push the a/c knob in so it doesn't light up.
  23. It should have something that looks a bit like a ball bearing with a hole in it. It is also worth noting that it is a nightmare getting it to squirt in the right place.
