  1. "I did move the droplink from side to side and up and down but couldnt feel any play," No, I mean rock the car not the drop link. If your car has roof bars, grap hold of them and rock the car, or open the front dor and rock the roof. The drop links will always feel solid because they are under load from the antiroll bar and strutt. Regards
  2. What a palaver! I don't mean to be rude, but if you want to check the drop links, place your fingers on the ball joint part of the drop link and get someone to rock the car from side to side. You will easily feel the slightest of play. Hope this helps future diagnostics. regards
  3. Get someone to rock the wheel side to side while you place your fingures over the track rod end rubber. If you feel movement then the TRE is worn
  4. car still difficult to start when hot. The engine starts perfectly when cold, I had the same problem but when the starter motor failled and replaced with a new one, the Galaxy worked perfectly. Doesn't make sense, but the starter motor did it. I alaso disconnected teh cold temp sensor and founmd that it cured the problem and when I fitted a new one from Ford, the problem remained. I recon that the recon starter was a mistake. try fitting another starter. Regards
  5. Don't bother repairing it until the balljoint comes off. Then disconnect the balljoint by taking the hex nut off and connecting arm, then drill a 6mm hole at the base if the balljoint and the same size hole in the base of the socket which is plastic. put a 6mm bolt through the base socket and the balljoint but before this apply lots of araldite. reconnect the arm with the hex socket. Let it dry. Mine has been ok for the last 6 months. regards
  6. If not waterpump then it will be a BLOCKED RADIATOR. My Mk1 has coverred 170K and I have not changed either.
  7. My old galaxy gets more reliable the longer I have it, but the cruise control disengages when the left indicator signal is pressed. does anyone have any ideas as to what the fault is. Thanks.
  8. On my 1998 galaxy with 170,000 miles, my originals lasted 124,000 mles. yes I have had the car since new and do all my own servicing. I replaced them with ford originals at 124K which were different to the original ones on the car and replaced the osf one againat 150,000 miles. Not happy with the new Ford tem lasting only 26K, I bought a cheap one from e.bay and so problems as yet. regards
  9. I had this problem about 4 years ago on my 1998 galaxy. I rtemopved the carpet and the foam and high up above the brake pedal, I sat the water dripping through a hole in the bulkhead. Silicone solved the problem and I have been dry ever since. Pity I didn't take photos. Don'tremove the dash until you have removed the carpet. Best of luck. and let us know how you get on.
  10. Reading more in Car Mechanics who are doing a project on a Mk1 Sharan. They too had a problem of a new battery going flat in 2 days and suspected a battery drain. They used a clamp meter put around the earth cable from the battery and connected the cb100 clamp meter which can measure down to 1mA. 0.001A. they said "we quickly identified 5mA of current still seeping through enough to drain a battery after a couple of days". They then disconnected each fuse in turn and when the current fell to 1mA they knew that was the problem. It turned out to be the radio which someone has wired a permanant feed instead of ignition feed thus illuminating the radio all the time. Hope this helps.
  11. Just received February edition of Car Mechanics magazine and on page 55 it shows a current tester that you plug in the fuse slot after removing the fuse. It ca be bought from www.testtools.co.uk for
  12. I had this problem. I bought a new arm but no difference. It turned out to be the wiper blade itself. Buy a blade from your Ford dealer, it will work. regards
  13. Thanks Neil, I assume the wires are broken between the connector and the parts inside the door. Anyone know how to get the door trim off. Is it best to buy a loom from Ford? Regards
  14. I had an intermittent electric window problem on the passenger side and thought it must be a broken wire in the harness between the passenger door and the car body. I undid the rubber boot but found all seemed ok. I then disconnected the multipin socket at the pillar, still no sign of damage. I then reconnected it and have found that not only does the window not work but neither does the central locking on that door nor the remote mirror of the same side. Does anyone know what i have done wrong. Regards
  15. When I used to take my Galaxy to a Ford dealer it always came back overfilled by about 20mm. An inch is about a litre and too high for my liking. I doubt it will do any damage in te short term, but you should point it out to the dealer and ask them to drain some of it. Just don't drive with high revs. Shabaz
