Try this. Remove the lead to the temperature sensor when the engine is hot. If it starts first time then it proves cold starting works well. Then change the bl..dy starter. Best of luck

Does anyone know how to lower the ecu required cranking speed when engine is hot. I have vagcom but need to know which channel needs to be changed. It will be cheaper than chsnging the starter. Whilst I agree in theory with Seatkid, I can't figure why VW/Ford would build in a higher cranking speed for a hot engine?

Concur with Seat and Geoff. Starter motor. Had the same problem. Started instrantly when cold and about 5 cranks when hot. 6 months later the starter burn't out. New starter fixed the warm start problem. Really confused the Ford dealer and me.

Problem now solved but what a palava. New TCM orderred and fitted by Ford. This time lots of fault codes and problem not fixed. Part mumbers were the same except the last letter. Ford insists it is the correct part. Dealer notes that there is one wire short and speaks to ford and VW as its a VW part. VW says that since its mated to a 2.3 Ford engine then they do not support it. Ford eventuall order a different TCM part from Germany and problem solved.

Its relay 109 that needs replacing. About
-
Its a 4 cyl and I am told straight from the Peugot parts department.

Fault is now permanent. took it to the Ford dealer who found that the feed voltaage to the sensor is only 2.5v instead if 5v so the fault is presumed to be the TCM transmission control module. Hpefully this will fix it.

Its relay 109, the one that feeds the engine ecu and the glow plug light. The glow plug lifght comes on when the feed is restored after the power has been interupted. About

My brothers 4 speed automatic gearbox on his 2001 model 2.3 Galaxy has gone into limp mode, being held in 3rd gear all the time. The engine warning light is continuously on. Vagcom fault code is "0297 gearbox speed sensor G38 no signal intermitant". I have clreared the fault code to rectify the problem but it returned 10 minutes later. I have changed the G38 sensor which incidently is the Ford name for the gearbox turbine shaft sensor, cleared te fault but the fault returned after a 10 minute drive. Any ideas? Thanks

My diesel 1.9tdi with AFN decided not to start this morning. The engine turns well but will not fire. Also the engine management light or glow plug light won't come on for a second when the ignition is turned on. I checked the fuses, all ok. I plugged in vagcom but it cant find the engine ecu. I assumed that perhaps power to the ecu was misssing, ecu problems or even a relay. I then smacked the side of the dash to the right of the fuse box and the glow plug light came on and the car started instantly when I turned the key. Its been ok all day, but what bothers me is what was the problem. Any help would be grateful.

I had one of these models for the weekend, and I noticed a big difference. Comfort made me a bit sick but was great over speed bumps. Normal was OK but a bit soft and firm was just right. When I buy the new galaxy I won't bother with this option.

Its fairly straightforward. One bolt at the bottom and I think just one at the top. I think 18mm socket and spanners will do best of luck

Replacing Rear Brake Pads
Shabazmo replied to blagger1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
For what it costs, the time it will save, and you can bet that you will use it again. Buy yourself a rewind tool. Most act as a clamp as well. Its not worth the hassle otherwise. Regards -
Just waiting to order my new automatic diesel galaxy but was hoping that the new powershift fuel efficient gearbox would come as standard. Ford dealer said that it may be available to order for September. Does anyone know if this is the case.

Ebay Brake Pads And Disc
Shabazmo replied to lim's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The hex bolts have to be removed to remove the caliper. Ref Make sure hub is clean before refitting new discs. Mine had old copper grease, so I cleaned and smeared some new on (probably why my discs came off so easily). This is very important because if there is a little grit on the surface then the discs will not be true with the pads, leading to warped discs. The best solution is to use a dial test indicator to check run out. The spec is 0.1mm on the outer circumference for both front and rear. I got mine to 0.02mm at the front discs and 0.05mm at the rear discs. Best of luck -
Sounds as though your compressor is faulty. Make sure you go to an aircon expert.. There are too many aircon people around who know nothing other than how to regas the system. An expert will have fixed many galaxy's and know their common faults. I will warn you that it may cost you a grand if the compressor has brocken up contaminated the system Regards

Fixed It.. Took the stalk off by removing the steering wheel, top and botton covers. Found that the brown wire at the indicator and cruise stalk had broken. Soldered it and now it works. Carefull when pulling th steering wheel off as there is a wire that needs to be disconnected about 12inches from the wheel. Best of Luck

I had the same problem last year in my 1998 galaxy but the cruise control stopped working altogether after 6 months. Today I am going to dismantle the stering stalk and will let you know.

I am just about to place an order for a new Ford Galaxt Tdci with the new auto box and have been quoted a lead time of 5 months. OK I am having some extras like climate seats, Ghia x pack, conversion plus, TPMS, travelers pack, seat pack, electric folding mirrors, and met paint. Just showing off! But 5 months seems a long time. Anyone had a better delivery time? I also have not decided on colour. Has anyone have any views on the colour Regards

I heard from Basingstoke audi that there is a 2.2ltr diesel planned with a double clutch gearbox, similiar to that on the vw/audi dsg gearboxes. Both engine and gearbox to be sourced from Volvo who are the development lead in this. As to when I was told in 2008 but no signs of any press release yet so probably not until the end of the year. I am waiting for the 2008 model year before I order my diesel. This should be sometime in March

Digital Display Flashing 8's
Shabazmo replied to Shabazmo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes, I do mean the aircon display. The aircon works fine. I used it the oter day to de-mist the windcreen on a wet day and it worked a treat. Regards -
When I start the galaxy 1.9tdi ghia 1998 with 175K, the digital display flashes with 8's for about 15 seconds and then returns to normal. I can't see anything wrong. Does anyone know what this means or do I have a problem looming. Regards, and thanks for any help.

Occasional Delay When Starting
Shabazmo replied to tim-spam's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had the same problem with my Mk 1, but it started well cold but 2-3 secs when warm. Couldn't find the fault nor could the Ford dealer. 6 months later the starter motor burnt out and when changed, all worked perferctly. The starter appeared to turn ok before failure. i know it doesn't make sense but thats my experiemce. Regards -
I had the new Galaxy 2.0tdci ghia automatic for the weekend, courtessy of Ford Talkback company car scheme. I have to admit that I was very impressed. Here are a few points from my experience. I drove 350 miles both country and motorway driving and avereged 39mpg. Beter than I expected for an automatic. The driving position and the 6 speed automatic gearbox was superb. Steering wheel and controls excellen as was the handling and stering. The engine was also refined. All seats are very good. I didn't like the variable suspension, comfort and normal settings seemed too soft so I drove it in sports mode most of the time. The CD sat nav is a waste of time especially as you can get portable systems that are light years ahead. Best to go for the DVD system but its
