  1. I changed the coolant recently on my 2000 1.9TDi, I couldn't fill with the correct amount of coolant and assumed that there must have been some water from the flush left in there. Anyway, I've noticed that since the change my Auxilliary heater has stopped working. Does anyone know if there is any reason for a coolant change to affect aux heater. eg, is there a flow sensor or similar? Or is it just a co-incidence, and maybe I should look at glowplug? Thanks
  2. Flushed with hose, so not sure of exact amount. Like you say, I think that I must have had some remaining fluid - probably water. I'll drain some out and fill with neat coolant. I guess it's better to have too much neat coolant than too little. Steve
  3. Thanks MM. Changed sensor (and removed skin from arms in process). Drained coolant from front hose and rear heater pipe. Flushed with clean water. I can only get 4.5litres of coolant back into it. I ran it until hot, squeezed pipes, took it for a blast so temp settled on 90deg. I'm not sure whether some old coolant remained and system is full, or if there is not enough coolant in system. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  4. Hi. I'm planning to replace the Coolant temp sensor and thermostat on my 1.9TDi the weekend. Any ideas on the best way to flush out the old coolant (been in there for 6 years now). With the engine off, do the heater matrix controls stay open by default (electronic climate control). Thanks.
  5. Marty. Was the coolant temp sender much hassle to replace? I need to do mine, but it looks pretty inaccessible.
  6. This coolant temperature sender on the 115 TDi seems very elusive. I still can't find it and the diagram on the TIS does not seem to relate to the car! Mind you the Ford Handbook labels the Oil filler cap as the Washer refill and vice-versa. Took me ages to clear the sludge of the windscreen, and as for the engine.......... I think if anyone has a definitive guide as to its whereabouts and a brief description on changing it, it would be much appreciated!
  7. I'v just about convinced myself that it must be the temp sender. With a hot engine I watched the gauge plummet to an indicated 50 deg and the tickover rose by a couple hundred rpm. The ECM must be getting a message that the engine is cold. If I could just find the bleeding sender then I'll replace it. Even the diagram in the TIS does not help me. Am I going mad or is it well hidden?
  8. As Nickpv, look for the vw505.01 spec. My local ford dealer is selling SD 5W40 for 21.99 (I think). Not sure if this is a local or national promotion.
  9. Hi all. I've seen a few posts related to temp problems, but I have a few problems which may (or may not) be related. The temp gauge fluctuates between about 60 and 90 degrees on warm up, but usually settles down when hot. Also, occasionally when starting a warm (not fully hot) engine, I get a horrible second or so of high revs, which quickly dies down. The engine occasionally ticks over too high also (approx 1200 rpm). I think it must be related to the temp sender on the top hose. Does this sender supply info to the engine management system? BTW great forum - Saved me a fortune on garage costs with the "seized wiper" problem. Many thanks to the regular contributors. Right, enough of the creeping! Any view on the above greatly appreciated. SteveC 115 Tdi Dec 2000
