Blatters/Dave m, Just to contradict my last message.Drove the gal approx 15 miles and when i stopped the car and turned the engine off a load of white smoke followed by a strong diesel smell came from the aux heater area. A short time later (half an hour) i was queuing up in the local car wash with the engine running and guess what a load of white smoke coming from under the car again.It then stopped smoking after about a minute. I spoke to a mate of mine who happens to be a Ford mechanic and he told me that it shouldn't smoke at all and that the aux heater is likely to be faulty and are about

Hello folks, I've noticed smoke and followed by a strong smell of diesel coming from the car.I have noticed it on two occasions of late,but it doesn't always do it.The smoke seems to come from the passenger side of the vehicle towards the rear. The heater seems to work ok and makes the noise like a jet engine when the engine is turned off. Is my gal starting to develop a problem or is it normal to get some smoke (i assume its from the auxillary heater ) on occasions. Regards, Paul

Hello, Does anyone know how to adjust a door !!! (Galaxy 1.9 tdi ghia ,02 plate) I know you can adjust the striker plate ,but is there anything that can be adjusted to make the door either close tighter on the door seal or the opposite. Is there any other adjustments that I can make before i get the sledgehammer out. The reason I want to adjust the door is because of an ongoing rattle/creak which could be because the door is pressing too close against the panel at the end of the dashboard.The noise is worse first thing in the morning when all the panels ,etc are stone cold. When I sit in the drivers seat and look over to the closed passenger door ,the door seems to be sitting too tightly against the rubber seal compared to the drivers door where the seal does not really press against the door. Anyone with anything similar? Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks, Paul.

Blatters, Don't we just love the challenge of a rattle !! I've just sorted my drivers door rattle. Firstly I replaced the latch, but the rattle was still there,but not quite as bad as before.So what i did was to place insulating tape around the striker plate barrel.This cured the problem.I guess that the striker plate barrel must wear a little after a period of time and when the latch closes on it there is a little space left which causes the latch to rattle on the striker plate ,if that makes sense. I also had a small rattle coming from the passenger door area and when looking at the passenger door from the inside it was pressing more against the rubber surround than the drivers door.Anyway i happened to be a a local v.w. garage and asked them to check if the door was positioned correctly.The mechanic after doing several adjustments told me he had adjusted the door and the door striker plate.The rattle seems to have gone for now,but i bet the b......d will come back.I hope not.However the door is still pressing very hard against the rubber surround,but i can live with it if the rattle has gone. seatkid, In order to get to the drain hole next to the polen filter do you have to remove the scuttle panel and the wiper motor ,etc.

BLATTERS- It is a worry that my galaxy which is a 115 bhp tdi ghia seems to be using oil.The only thing that I have put in the engine is a plug in module which increases the bhp to about 150 bhp.Maybe this is the reason,more of a strain on the engine or something.As I am new to the site how do i open up a new thread on the site (please excuse my ignorance once more !!) My Galaxy has two annoying rattles.One is from the drivers side door.I've taken the panel off twice (couldn't find anything loose when I checked myself the first time) .The second time I got a local garage to check take the window regulator out and tape the window up.However the rattle was still there.Anyway to cut a long story short I took the car to one a Ford garage and a very helpful mechanic after spraying nearly everything in my door panel with grease told me that the noise was coming from the door latchafter taking it off.Redneck is kindly sending me one in the post and after it has been fitted I will let you know if the problem is resolved. The other rattle which isn't as loud is coming somewhere from the passenger quarterlite window area.I have changed the plastic around the wiper blades,had new plastic vent cover and the spongy thing that sits underneath it.I have also had the quarterlite window taken out and resealed as it was slightly loose.I have taken the door panel off but couldn't find anything loose and have greased the door latch( just in case!!!).I've also had a new panel which sits at the end of the dash by the door if that makes sense. I am now running out of ideas and guess i will just have to turn the radio on louder !! I guess there is so much plastic panelling on the galaxy that something is bound to rattle.Guess they are poorly made.Should have bought a tractor.At least with that the sound of the engine would overide every conceivable rattle! Going off on a tangent how often do you top up your oil level in the galaxy.I put 4.5 litres in about 3 months ago and must have done about 5 k .Checked the level today and found it on the minimum mark and topped it up with approx half a litre of oil.Is it normal for the car to use so much oil .i never had the same problem with a Sharan I used to haveand that was a tdi as well.

I gave my Galaxy its annual hoovering today only to find the carpet in the front passenger footwell soaking wet.Well not of all it is wet.It seems that the part of the carpet near the door is the worst. I have read on this site about unblocking scuttle drains and something to do with the pipe connecting to the rear washer jet as a possible cause. I took out the scuttle drain and noticed a few leaves in the right hand corner of the engine bay ,but this is a very difficult area to get to and I don't know if the leaves were the causeof this leak. Anyway this morning I filled the washer fluid reservoir and gave the front and rear wiper jets a good blast as the windows were dirty.I don't know if the water has come into the footwell from a leaking washer jet pipe. Please can somebody tell me how to do the following and I apologise for my ignorance: 1. How do I check the washer jet pipe and where do I find it.Exactly what do I need to take apart to find the pipe.Has anyone any picture guides if this is complicated. 2.Exactly where is the vent in the engine which occasionally blocks up with leaves,etc and how is it unblocked ?? Could there be any other reasons for this water ingress ??? Many thanks, Paul.

Was the rattle there before you took the car to the dealer ???? It may be an idea to check your tyre pressures in the first instance.I am aware of someone who had a similar problem only to find the tyres under-inflated. I have several ongoing rattle problems with my galaxy as well and will discuss further with you if you like? Regards, Paul.

I have a Ford Galaxy Ghia 1.9 tdi (02 plate). Since I bought it 6 months ago I have had an annoying metallic sounding rattle coming from the drivers door.I had some very helpful information from MATT who sent me pictures on how to remove the door panels.This I have done without any problems.I have checked everything within the door and nothing seems loose.I have taken the car to a local garage and they taped the window shut and removed the window regulator ,but the noise was still there when they took it for a test drive so I have ruled out the regulator as being responsible.You only really hear the noise upon accelerating,going over a speed hump or going up/down a hill. I have spoken to a very helpful Ford Service manager in OMC Rochdale and was advised to test drive the car with the drivers door open a little as he suspected it could be a faulty door latch/faulty door latch mechanism.Guess what when I did this I did not hear a rattle until I closed the door again. .I have tried adjusting the door striker plate,but this has not made any difference and the only conclusion that I have come to is that the noise must be coming from the door latch . Has anyone had anything similar and has anyone any ideas as to what I can try next (apart from slegde hammering the car !!!).I think that I am going to end up with a costly bill from a Ford garage who may suggest renewing the latch !!!!
