Things Most Likely To Go Wrong
big_kev replied to Jimbo73's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
"But, you clearly have not actually measured anything. Look at the figures " Yep your right I have not measured anything, this is based on my experience of driving them rather than manufacturers dodgy figures. I will concede that I have not driven the 130 and 150 diesels and cant comment on their performance although it is highly unlikely that they could keep up with the 2.3 petrol. The petrol engines are more responsive than the diesels, ie they rev quicker and in the case of the 2.3l has more power than any of the diesels apart from the 150. Therefore it has more power and engine acceleration than the other diesels, given this I cant think of a reason why it would be slower to accelrate can you ? The comment about the ! well driven ! diesel doing 3000rpm and the petrol having to be hard driven to keep up beggars belief. A diesel doing 3000rpm is being flogged this is the equivalent of the petrol doing over 5000rpm. Maybe I am wrong this would most likely explain all the diesel racing cars out there ! -
I am going to vote for Chico

Things Most Likely To Go Wrong
big_kev replied to Jimbo73's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I have got to disagree with some of the statements in here regarding performance. After having driven the 2.0l, 2.3l and Tdi versions of the Galaxy I can safely state the following. Both the 2.0l and 2.3l will leave the Tdi version for dead when it comes to acceleration. The diesel would not even get close to either of them, admittedly the 2.3l is far superior than the 2.0l in every way but both leave the diesel way way behind. Yes the diesel will maintain its speed up a hill in 4th that you might need to change down to 3rd in a petrol, however the petrol will accelerate up the hill faster than the diesel will. Personnaly I would always go for an auto anyway given the choice ( my current version is a manual and my last 2 were autos ) Engine noise for the diesel is much more at low speeds than either of the petrols. At high speeds the engine noise even for the diesel becomes insignificant compared to the road and wind noise and therefore there is little difference between them. It is like comparing a fat old Husky dog against a whippet, you know who is going to win the sprint but you also know who you would want pulling your sled. -
Definitely sounds like faulty wiring, bad earth or wires in contact somewhere ( faulty loom ? )

Yep, still here.

The comment about the coat hanger was serious. Is there anyone over 40 who hasn't fitted one of these ? You can actually buy these as diecast models, Rover P6 shown below. http://toybox100.bizland.com/vanguard.htm

Engine Swap Advice Needed

I thought the 2 Litre was the transit engine ? -
I would be very wary of these warranties as they tend to not cover items classed as being due to wear and tear. Your vehicle is out of warranty therefore all the items on it are old and could be classed as at the end of their expected lifetime. eg the expected lifetime of the gas in your aircon is 3 years therefore any aircon faults could be down toi this and classed as fair wear and tear. ditto for the rest of the vehicle really. Loosing Power At Around 4000 Revs

Its not a gearbox problem is it ? Will it go above 4000 rpm if you manually put it into 1, 2 or 3 ? -
Flashing Glow Plug Light.

Faulty Ignition Relay, this will be the one at the bottom right, cant remember the number, possibly 130 ? Most likely will feel rather hot to the touch. About -
crash.mp3 The sensor has this sound at the end for Lady drivers ! Yes I am serious !

This is the site detailing information on the model I have. http://www.car-reversing-systems.co.uk/ ( please note I am in no way connected with them, just have one of their products, mine actually came from ebay ). Also at this sound it is advisable to stop reversing... crash.mp3

'sticky Relay - Glow Plugs' Tdi 90hp
big_kev replied to BrianAll's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks Martin. Since I posted the question I have been using the search option and found a question posted in 2004 'where is the glow plug relay' and one of the replies was kind enough to show a photo of the relay. It sits at the far right of the bottom row, on layer 3. Yes, yu're right, mine is numbered 103. Thanks. I will now undo tie clips, take off layer 2 to get to layer 3 and take out the offending relay. On another post from seach I saw that the relay problems are often down to poor soldering within the relay, so I am hoping this is the case with mine, it will save me -
I cant believe that people are stupid enough to buy worthless junk like that. Obviously they must be !

This is the warning at 1 metre's distance. This is at 0.6m/ 2ft ( younger viewers may have to seek advise on what an ft is ? ). 1metre.mp3 0.6m.mp3

The best one I have found is the talking one counts down from 2.5m to 0.3m, best if you can get the american one that goes from 8ft down to 1ft. I have one of these fitted and it is excellent, so far I have avoided backing over 3 toddlers in car parks as there idiot parents let them walk behind my car with big bright reversing lights shining at them. Cant recommend these highly enough. Never figured out how the display ones work. They seem too small a display to mount on the rear window and obviously if you put them at the front of the car you are looking in the opposite direction to the way you are travelling, not a good idea ! Buy the talking ones the others are rubbish.

First obvious question, have you checked the oil and changed it, just in case. Secondly dont use Slick 50 or similar, they are a con, might as well chuck some sawdust in there !

Which relay did he change ? it sounds like the ignition relay that is the problem, cutting of the fuel to the engine. Check if there is voltage at the fuel cut off valve. If not connect it direct to the battery and it should start ( as a temporary measure )
