  1. Not a big fan of painted calipers, but if I was, I'd have done them blue.
  2. Not all tyres of nominally the same size have the same rolling circumferance, a new tyre and worn tyre will give similar differences (do you notice a speedo difference from worn to new tyres)? As long as they fit the rim safely, try what you want.
  3. Have you got a photo please?
  4. Do a Google for brake dust shields, I've seen them fitted to some cars and they do work. Although they do the job they are designed for, I would have more concern for the brakes overheating, if they stop dust moving through the wheel, they must stop the cooling air too.
  5. Try tapping the purge valve mounted on the bulkhead, ours had stuck.
  6. I found this quote from someone who wrote to Shell. "I put this question to Shell who stated quite unequivocally that at one time Red diesel was in fact identical to road diesel with a red marker added for tax identification purposes. Changes in Goverment requirements for more stringent standards for road diesel have meant that sulphur levels have been lowered, along with other modifications to road diesel. However and most importantly, Red diesel/heating oil/gas oil has remained exactly the same. Andrew Morris has kindly confirmed that this has certainly been the same for at least 10 years!" Basically, red diesel is the same as normal diesel of ten years ago. If a car could use it then, it can use it now, however, a newer engine would be spec'd to run with less sulphur. Stricter emmisions testing would also cause problems.
  7. What's that got to do with his question? There's no need to be so pretentious, it's irrelevant to the current owner if the previous one paid duty or not.
  8. It's true what they say about sparkys and gas fitters charges then. :) Welcome aboard.
  9. Which bit should you grease? The shaft, The toothed gear or the little bearing at the end of the shaft? What sort of grease? Thanks.
  10. You should be fine, I recently had to change the belt and tensioner after the tensioner's pulley wheel disintigrated, once I had worked out what had gone wrong it wasn't difficult. Ford wanted
  11. The trouble with using the search button is that it invariably drags up topics filled with posts about using the search button rather than just answewring the question.
  12. I'd agree with the above too, better to have a new tyre (that has been approved for sale in the UK), than a half worn tyre from a premium manufacturer. I wonder if those that say different have to have brand label clothes too because, as EVERYONE knows, big brands are ALWAYS best. Hmmmmmm.
  13. I may be reading this wrong but surely if Smoggy can hear it clicking, then it can't be the wires in the pillar, it has to be the linkage around the door handle?
  14. No need to chuck your toys out of the pram Dave, like I pointed out, I only get annoyed when the tech subjects get silly, I've no problem with any other sections, I was merely pointing out that your title was ambiguous and thus the reason people looked but didn't post could be different to your reason.
  15. I've already said my bit about this generally here, but to answer this specific point you made, the fact that it's been viewed far more than contributed to could also be down to the totally ambiguous tital you gave the thread (if you've got nowt to do), people are naturally intrigued, but when they see the subject, they aren't interested.
  16. Says he who just happens to have been here 3 years 11 days. I'm just pulling your leg. A status for age is just as worthy as for post numbers, sometimes more so. It does no harm and has a defined period before you are admitted so is not open to one-upmanship.
  17. No, you're not alone, I was going to say the same thing. Why on Earth would someone feel the need to be reminded of their "greatness" everytime they log on? On a practicle side, it lessens debate, on other forums I've seen people be-littled or ignored because they disagreed with someone who was labeled as a technical guru, didn't see the apologies when they were proved correct though.....The only benefit to someone asking a question would be that they may take advice more readily from a "tech guru" however, that's not to say that gurus are 100% correct and when working on my own car I wouldn't take one persons say-so anyway. I would say that unless there is a revolt among those already aknowledged to be the most prolific of tech posters, this really shouldn't be on the agenda.
  18. Our mk 1 Galaxy closes its windows on our remote.
  19. Not always, look back to my starter motor posts and check our problem. We had screeching and not turning over the engine, I thought it may be missing flywheel teeth but as I say, a breakers starter motor fixed it.
  20. I've just done the aux belt and tensioner on our 2.0, but did the starter motor a while back. Both are straightforward. It was a short term fix when I cleaned and greased the starter motor, one from a breakers cured our troubles.
  21. I was always told that it was far more difficult to repair a screw hole rather than a nail one as the screw rips the tyre as it is driven in. However this might be a con job to get a new tyre out of me. It's your call as to whether you drive, I can't see it doing any more damage as long as it's fully seated already, but I wouldn't go doing any track days until it's sorted.
  22. The exterior trim piece (the piece that runs the length of the doors about a third of the way up) has come loose, I will have to remove it and strip off the remaining adhesive tape. Does anyone know the best sort of double sided tape to use to re-stick it? Does Ford/VW stock the adhesive strips or will any tape do?
  23. Taken from their bio. So can't answer :) The band blink 182 was formed by two friends, Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge, who met when Tom was dating Marks younger sister Anne. When Anne told Mark that her boyfriend played guitar, the two decided to play in Tom's garage one day afterschool. That first day they started working on the song "Carosuel" which appeared on their second demo and first album. After awhile, the band realized they would need a drummer, they found local thirteen year old Scott Raynor. They trio then recorded "Flyswatter" and "Buddha" later re-releaserd in 1998. After this took place an Irish techno band said they would confirm lawsuit if the band wouldn't change their name. The band decided on Blink 182. No one really knows why they chose "182" but some various reasons are: They are the numbers that symbolize suicide, the amount of times Mark had beaten off, how many freckles Tom Had...etc. The band was then signed to Grilled Cheese Records, since they had one a bet that they would sell over 150 copies of their 2nd demo. The cd had most of the bands songs from "Buddha" and a few extras and a few of the songs were re-done and added stuff. The band then recorded Dude Ranch with the hit, "Dammit". The band then made music videos to the song "Dammit" and track 12 "Josie" named after a dog. After a dispute with Scott, who wanted to take a break from the band to go to college, he was replaced with Travis Barker from the AquaBats. The band then went on to record their multiplatnium album "Enema of the State". They had their most famous hit "All The Small Things" recorded as well as the hits "What's My Age Again", "Adam's Song", "Aliens Exist" and "The Party Song". The band was more popular that weed.
  24. Stood next to something bigger than the Galaxy, with the three reasons we bought one.
