  1. Sorry, I can't help, but if you get no joy here, I was helped at this site. http://www.digital-forums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=159 within 2 minutes of posting.
  2. Okay thanks, I'm hoping that it's just the starter motor itself then.
  3. Does it indicate that a new starter motor would fix it or would you hazard a guess that the flywheel toothed ring is kaput too?
  4. Morning all, my 2.0 manual from 1997 is showing starting problems, sometimes (two or three times a day, hot or cold) it just lets out a screech and doesn't kick the motor over when turning the key, usually on the second or third try it then starts fine. It's had a new battery and I opened up relay 30 and that looks fine. Is it likely to be a bad starter motor? It never clicks indicating the solenoid, just screeches as though its not meshing with the engine. Could I thank anyone who offers advice in advance as you've already helped with the various problems you find after buying a car, the most helpful being fumes being drawn through the vents and after searching for it on here it was indeed a loose pipe on the charcoal canister, something I would never have known about, so cheers. Ian.
  5. It's just in front of the fuel tank inderneath the car.
  6. I may be wrong but the manual only needs to be provided for type approval purposes with a brand new car, if yours was eight months old then it is feasable that the previous owner has lost/misplaced it and a new one can be sourced at a later date. If yours was brand new and had no previous then they should provide you with it.
  7. I have been lurking on this forum for a while and it has helped me no end, (relay 30, folded sills, reversing lights not staying on, etc) and now need to ask a question myself, I have just had new discs and pads fitted all round on my wifes '96 Galaxy, having just got it back and peering through the steel wheels spokes, it seems that the pads are only touching the discs on the inner edge of the disc not the outer. The pad material seems to taper so I am assuming that in the next couple of hundred miles they will wear down to touch the disc all over. Is this right? Thanks in advance of any help / advice / reassurance.
