Ignition Off Brake Lights?
soptom replied to soptom's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Good, I'll guess that my electrics aren't quite up the chute yet then. -
Hi all, I've just changed my brake light switch and the new one seems fine, but one thing I noticed is that the brake lights work even with the ignition off, is this normal? Cheers.

This is exactly what caused my fuel smell problem, take off the wheel arch liner above drivers front wheel, in there is the canister, one of the pipes connecting to it had been dislodged. Hope this helps.

The trim clips on all round, I changed the bulb by levering the trim off at the top left area and working my way round, there was a single bulb underneath(96 model). The trim is very brittle so go carefully.

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly. TIS is the Technical Information System, IIRC :( It is Fords system, you can buy a c.d. (Compact Disc) :) of it on eBay for a few quid, it is handy.

Re-fitment Of Glove Box Light
soptom replied to JDF's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I too would suggest trying it with the lights on, it will help you see what way the switch fits, I changed the bulb and replaced it in about two minutes but I can't remember any difficulties in particular so can't help really. -
Wear thicker pants and trousers.

Battery Not Holding It's Charge
soptom replied to greg_68's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
j_m The battery I got from Halfords was completely dead when I got it home it didn't even have the power to illuminate the instrument panel. Everything indicates you were just unlucky in that the first battery you bought was faulty. Chances are you will be okay now, not every fault is doom and gloom, some people aren't happy unless they can ruin your day by suggesting your blown fuse is a new loom job. -
Not sure about the "black bit" but mirror shells are fairly common on eBay, that's where I got mine. Once you have the bits, it's an easy swap.

Does anyone know what colour the global closure control wire is on a 1996 2.0 Galaxy, I've searched but haven't come up with an answer. Cheers.

Johnb80, I wanted to check out a feature on the alarm I just fitted, but I programmed it to ignore the lights anyway. Masked Marauder, thanks for that, I'll go and order some.

Hi all, I was wondering if there is a way of switching off the interior light delay so that as soon as you shut the last door, the interior lights go straight out rather than waiting until you lock it? Cheers. Just thought of something else too, is it possible to buy the little rubber covers for the door plungers(that turn the lights on) on their own? Or do they come with new door plungers?
-
Hopefully a quicky, I'm about to fit an alarm and before I go and test it myself, as I'm at my desk, I'll ask if the central locking trigger wires are positive or negative trigger? Mk1 1996 Galaxy. Cheers. EDIT: It's okay, it's positive.

I can't help, but offer sympathies, That noise would end up being the only damn thing I would hear EVERY time I drove it if it was my car. Let us know when you finally sort it. ;)

;) Had the Galaxy serviced Tuesday, after getting home with the car after we picked it up "All done" we receive a phone call saying that they hadn't managed to change the spark plugs as they didn't have any in stock and could we come back in next week for them to do it. I hit the roof and insisted they do it at the earliest opportunity, Friday morning (They've now done it). What is special about Galaxy spark plugs? Are they in some way unique? The car had been booked in a week in advance yet they had run out? This wasn't a back street garage by-the-way, it was a Ford service and parts centre. ;) They also confirmed it needed a new starter motor and said they would fit one for

Was thinking of doing this same mod today! If you have the time and inclination, could you post a picture of the back of your grill so I can see how you attached the mesh? Like the original poster said, it's easy to end up with a bodge. Thanks. Incidentally, we had two new drop links fitted yesterday and it's like driving a new car, no clunking noises, squeaks, or wallowing handling (within the galaxy's limits of wallowing handling), one of those jobs that I kept putting off but wished I'd done sooner.

Hi all, I searched but could find no answer, what's the procedure for removing and refitting the starter motor for an overhaul? 2.0 1996 petrol manual. Thanks.
-
Excellent, thanks for that, much appreciated. :)

Hi all, the wifes Galaxy is due a 130,000 service next month and the previous owner did the 110,000 but missed the 120,000 service. Could anyone let me know what needs doing when I book it in? Is there a check list available anywhere? Thanks in advance. Ian. Ooops, forgot to say it's a 2.0 petrol manual 1996.

Mine is a Nokia too and holds the tax disc, it gets better reception than handheld and no interference either. I'd always go for one of these in future.

It seems to have been the thermostat that had stuck shut and was thus causing all my problems, changed it yesterday with all new coolant and it seems to be running okay so far, thanks for all the replies.
-
The oil seems clear and so does the expansion tank so I'm hoping it's just the thermostat at the moment, I'll get a new one and flush through some new coolant tomorrow so I'll let you know the results after this, thanks for the suggestions so far.

Evening all, my wife was driving the car today when it started getting hotter than normal, she turned for home and got there just as the red light started flashing and steam was venting from the cap. I've checked that the fan was running, which it was and now need some guidance, when it was running hot, the fan was continuous at its highest speed yet the gauge was still creeping upwards. The radiator didn't seem to be getting anywhere near as hot as the obvious temp suggested so does this mean the thermostat is at fault or the water pump, or could it be a blocked rad? I can see water flowing into the expansion tank so does this mean the water pump is working? Any help gratefully received. It is a 1995 2.0 petrol Galaxy and normally runs on the cold side of normal.

2 Questions Tonight
soptom replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
For the mirrors, prize out the glass from the top and push out the 4 clips you can see holding the casing on.
