Sat Nav Compatibility
Gadgetoid replied to Galaxy23's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
LOL. I see the blind are leading the blind here. Time to shed some light on the subject: The standard Ford Audio ( 5000RDS, 6006E, etc.. ) is 1.75DIN The SatNav unit is double DIN. And it is really a rebadged VW / Blaupunkt unit so the plugs are different and will need converters. It is a fairly simple job to remove the air con control, radio, cup holders and switch gear from your existing facia. Then remove the three screws that hold it in ( 1 in each cup holder slot and one at the back of the radio slot) Then replace everything in the new facia you will have just bought from Ford to fit the SatNav. The part number you need is F1319217. Only -
The other thing I've wanted to do (but been too afraid of bollixing) is reprogramming the satnav unit itself. You can tell the software and hardware version of your satnav by pressing 3 and 6 together - but a lot of the version numbers are fairly obscure. Before anyone asks I have not attempted to upgrade the Ford unit to an MFD ver G - it can certainly be done with VW MFD-D units, but at the risk of turning the unit into an expensive brick. This adds a 'spelling' function for selecting your destination and a few other bells and whistles, but nothing much more adventurous. There are also people around who have reprogrammed the voice of the VW Satnav by hacking the disc - I'm sure the instructions are around on the bnet somewhere if you are interested. Again, tempted, but the potential downside in time and hassle to retrieve a bricked unit is not worth the gain. If anyone knows how to do it (or even better has a CD-ROM image that can be downloaded ) then let me know.

Bleeno - that reply is so admiring I could almost suspect you of sarcasm. If only I wasn't such a great guy that it couldn't be...LOL I don't think the external aerial is 100% necessary - those of us who have retro-fitted a factory Satnav seem to find that a standard SMB GPS aerial hidden in the dash somewhere works OK ( theres a lot of assumptions about 'us' in that sentence, LOL) I also seem to recall seeing that the extra FM aerial for the TMC box can also be routed out to the side of the car from the central fascia - although I suspect it may have not quite such a good signal there as the external version. I think if you look at the back of SOME Ford satnav units you will see a small GPS type socket near to the main FM aerial socket, and I believe that's what it is for. I say some because I've had 2 units - and one came with the extra socket and one without. I couldn't tell any other difference between the two ( unlike VW versions where you can tell the version from looking at the part number suffix A...G) or even which was the older / newer unit. If anyone can enlighten me I'd be curious to find out why the difference. Quite why VW chose to design it with it's own dedicated FM aerial I don't know - surely the main FM antenna is already picking up a variety of signals for the RDS_EON function. I do know that in the UK the TMC (Trafficmaster) info is broadcast within the Classic FM signal .

How To Get Traffic Announcements On The Radio?
Gadgetoid replied to GalaxyGhiaTD0555's topic in Trainee member help
OOps! The above reply should have gone on the Satnav TMC thread - I'd forgotten I'd already clicked the link from there to this thread. Still, all useful information, and slightly (tangentially) related to this thread LOL -
B*****cks - spent 10 mins typing this out then forgot I'd navigated to the RDS-TP thread link given above. I'll just have to duplicate this answer in the correct place I think the replies so far are incorrect ! You CAN get TMC on the Ford SatNav unit - but only with expensive add ons See this thread and others like it on the VWNavi site ( a must read for any galaxy owner with factory satnav) http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=...p;highlight=tmc The Ford unit is essentially a VW (Blaupunkt) MFD version D. These can be enabled for TMC by the addition of a VW TMC box + an extra FM aerial which routes only through this extra box. Cost = lots probably. VW TMC boxes are 70 ish without the aerial on Ebay, god knows how much from VW http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Audi-TMC-...1QQcmdZViewItem plus you then need the aerial as well PLUS you need a subscription to TMC - and I suspect you only get this with a TMC enabled navigation CD ROM, and my guess is probably only for the year that CDROM is valid. ? another

Galaxy Centre Console Required
Gadgetoid replied to a topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Hi again Glad that the electronics are all working for you now. I don't have a spare centre console, but I can tell you that the cutout at the bottom for the DVD player looked like it was cut out as an afterthought - so with some careful measuring and cutting you should be able to convert yours. Apart from the cigarette lighter power point being to the side in the VCR version, I don't think that the DVD centre console is different in any other way. I can confirm that the fit is VERY tight with DVD, module, cables, back of cigarette lighter, etc all really crammed into the console - the power cable to the back of the cigarette lighter in particular rubs up against the edge of the metal inner frame. Getting the whole lot to fit in involves some trial and error. In particular the screws that pass down from the four corners of the lidded compartment at the top are supposed to screw into plastic receiving slots at the top of the module to hold everything rigidly in place - and it's a bugger to line everything up with the metal frame when that is weighted down by the DVD player attached to it at the front end, but slipping in and out of the DVD rearward facing slot in the console. If I recall correctly the screws supplied by Ford looked too large so I used smaller ones from somewhere else - I didn't fancy putting screws that were too large throught the circuit board of that damned expensive module! One particular trick here is NOT to place the control/headphones/power panel until last - you have to have it wired up, but you can push-click it into place as the very last part to be positioned. This allows you to use its cutout to manoeuvre the frame and innards of the console until they are in the correct place. Once the control panel is clicked into place the only way to remove it easily is to slide it downwards once the DVD player has been removed. As another warning be very careful with the screws that hold the console in place - if it is even slightly off centre then the compartment lid fouls on the driver or co-driver armrests. I would advise plenty of dry runs before drilling the holes for the securing screw anchors. -
All questioned answered ( I hope) - under your original thread for this Gadgetoid

And whilst I'm looking at the old paperwork for the parts numbers, I'll translate the visteon retrofit cables to Ford parts numbers (latest Finis number quoted when more than one exists): Part N ( power cable from back of radio) Finis 1128654 Part O (power in/ AV in/ AV out / cigarette lighter ) Finis 1146020 Part P ( AVout to VCR ) Finis 1127212 Part Q ( module split cable to seat back cables) Finis 1123442 Part R ( VCR AV and power split cable) Finis 1225812 Part S ( seat back cable) Finis 1131285 Part T (module to control panel cable) Finis 1123443 My apologies to Hijacker, to whom I promised this parts list 6 months ago, but better late than never! -

Hi BDM When I fitted my system I used a mates copy of the Ford Microcat parts database (2003 so now a bit out of date) - this was mainly because the dealer did not realise there are two sections for the DVD system: J06.060 Family Entertainment System ( for looking up parts for the factory fit sytem) and Z04.079 Entertainment System ( for parts as per the Visteon retrofit document which you should already have) Looking at these sections there are at least 5 different parts numbers for the Module : Z04.079 04/2000 - 01/2001 Finis 1123448 04/2000 - 09/2001 Finis 1135852 09/2001 - Finis 1148436 04/2000 - 01/2001 Finis 1131233 (Remanufactured) 04/2000 - Finis 1136000 (Remanufactured) J06.060 As above plus 09/2002 - Finis 1225805 ( this part specifies that the module is for the DVD system - the others do not ) 09/2002 - Finis 1225806 ( ?replacement for 1225805) My Module is 1225806 and works fine with the DVD sysyem. I did try plugging in a visteon VCR but it didn't pick up a signal from this - but I was being greedy and had the DVD still plugged in ! The DVD to Module cable is both power and A/V - Finis 1225814 if I read my invoices correctly The other tricky lead in this system is the power in / AV in / AV out / cigarette lighter cable (Finis 1146020 ) - I think that the AV in connector also carries power out to the VCR, but that the AV out is designed to hook in to the back of the stereo, through another cable I was unable to identify. I left this out in the end - with the result that I kept the CD autochanger, so no great loss having to go without the Shrek soundtrack via the cars speakers ! Hope this helps you work out which module you do have and whether it's the correct one -

Also found this, giving circuit diagrams of the visteon module, but as this is the module for a Renault, again I can't be sure if there are different versions euro.evisteon.com/uploads/euro_documents/Renault%20MM%20Service%20Man%20--%20Control%20Module4.pdf May be of interest though -

Hi BDM Not been on the forum for several months - nice to see you back. Never got around to thanking you properly for your help last year (out of the forum) when I was retrofitting the visteon system to my Galaxy. The lead you suggested wasn't the right one though, but I managed to find the power cable from rear of stereo to the visteon module was listed in a separate section of the Ford TIS. I suspect that the cables between VCR player and module, and between stereo and CD changer, although they look similar, are different, and the reason your Sharan project failed was because of this. For your present problem, I would be very wary about the exact module part number. I suspect there are slight variations in the module between the VCR and the DVD setups. The module was the only part of my set up (other than cables) that I was willing to pay full whack from Frauds for this reason. I also deliberately avoided hooking up the module to stereo audio cable, partly due to the problems you experienced, but with the bonus of doing that allowed me to keep the CD changer plugged in. ( Means that if sound from the DVD is to come through the stereo it has to use one of those fake cassette rig-ups, but how often do I want to hear Bob the Builder through the whole car?) For connecting up the module, I found this document the most useful: http://euro.evisteon.com/uploads/euro_docu...tt%5FInst%2Epdf I'll try to add the document as an attachment in case the link is no longer active, I wonder if the attachments system has improved since I last visited? The diagram for HR-1780 is the most analogous for the Ford galaxy DVD setup, but the others are probably useful if you are trying to setup the VCR system. As you can see, the module accepts different ways of conecting for different sytems, but whether the modules are different models is not explicitly stated. Good luck with your project. -
The facia cage is what I call the plastic silver painted construct that sits in the centre console. It contains the aircon controls and the 5000 radio system. The radio void is a din + 3/4 opening - the large black hole you now have with a single torx screw at the back. If you want to change to proper double din opening then you can remove the entire silver fascia and replace it with the black surround, usually only used in Galaxy's for the Sat Nav system. It is also the standard fit fascia for the Alhambra's and Sharans. To remove the silver fascia you have to remove Radio + aircon controls + all switchgear + both cupholders, then undo 3 torx screws - one at the back that you can see now plus one each at the top centre of the cupholder holes (only visible when you remove them) Good luck

Haven't confirmed this by looking at the wiring diagram, but I would bet a large sum of money that the illumination is a separate power feed - if only because this can then be controlled by the instrument panel dimming dial, so iluminations lights are all on the same circuit routed through this. Be rather odd to have the clock function connected to a rheostat - you could then make it run faster or slower with the dimmer dial  I am of course refering to the Mark II - but I presume the Mark I also has the illumination dimmer dial somewhere :D
-
Easy to remove cupholders - when you have done it once already  Open the cupholder, get a flat bladed screwdriver into the opening, press down the spring clip that holds the mounting in place in the top centre of the cupholder. Hey presto :D Once cupholders are out it should reveal a screw in the top centre of each of the cupholder spaces - unscrew both of these and the screw at the back of the fascia cage and the whole thing should lift out (assuming you have already disconected the switches and labelled the cables - be particularly careful of front and rear heated screen switches as the cables fit either but the functionality is different). You also have to remove the air-con controller before removing this fascia ( black flat surround lifts off once you get a fingernail between the surround and the display to reveal 4 screws, easily accessible ). Once you have a loose facia cage you can wave it in front of the parts man to illustrate your queries :D Seats cage is double din and black, Fords in Din and 3/4 and silver (except when Sat Nav is fitted) . Switchgear for the black double din cage is different as well, but I think the Ford sitchgear will fit at a pinch.

No particular knowledge of Corsas but On general principles have you checked Voltage regulator (on back of instrument panel) The earth connection (usually a screw or similar)

Aircon Evaporator
Gadgetoid replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
That's exactly what I thought - and seeing they were sniffing the system when it was full of normal R134a fluorocarbon without any special nitogen fill I added 2+2 to the obvious answer  -

I'm not sure about whether the UV dye would show up from the condensate drain tube - but I see no reason why not. It shows up well quite well in one of Nik's photo's in the link SK has added above - you can see it just below the bulkhead connectors on the picture of the extracted evaporator. The sniffer tests for the fluorocarbons I think ( Aircon man told me it sniffs for nitrogen, but that doesn't make any sense at all ) -
There's a visteon module on Ebay at the moment for 20 quid. Ford price for the multimedia module alone was about

Aircon Evaporator
Gadgetoid replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I can confirm that to get to the evaporator you not only need to take out the dash, but a bit of the engine bay too  Unfortunately by the time you have got to the evaporator you've already incurred most of the expense - Ford quoted me -
I think you mean condensor (the air con radiator in front of the engine radiator) rather than evaporator from your description of the site of possible air-con gas loss If you do mean evaporator (the cold bit of the air-con next to the cabin ventilation fan) then it's not so much the cost of the part, as the labour to get at it - they have to take the dash completely apart, along with most of the engine bay to get at it  I speak from personal experience, though luckily covered by warranty ;)

Apologies Bezel is the plastic trim with two legs that fit into holes you drill in the head end of the metal seat frame (after first cutting upholstery and removing a block of foam). LCD wiring passes out of seat through a hole in the middle of the bezel. You definitely need one on each seat because the rubber gaiter that covers the wiring to the LCD screen is held down at its lower end by the bezel. I'm wondering if 'cap' just fills the cable hole in the middle of the bezel - so you only need it if removing your LCD headrests.

Black box thingy = air filter housing. Lost one of my fittings for the wiper linkage down the same whole, recovered it in the same way.
